Before COVID shut the library down, I was helping a little boy and his mom find books.

“What do you like to read about?” I asked. “Dinosaurs!” This is common request, but can mean different things, “Okay. Do you want a story about dinosaurs, or facts about dinosaurs?” “Facts.” I took him to the dinosaur section (567.9) of the juvenile nonfiction. He picked out a couple books, and I asked him if there was anything else he was looking for. “Do you have anything on DNA?” I had to think about that for a second. “I think so…but I’ll have to look it up.” The boy beamed, “I want to find out how DNA works, so I can bring them back!” “We just saw Jurassic Park,” his mom explained with a smile that did not waver when she added, “We didn’t learn anything.”

The moment you’ve been waiting for… Percy Jackson with Tattoos! The first in my PJO Tattoo series 🌊  I gave Percy a bunch of stupid ones, because as much as I liked the pretty ones I also feel like he would impulsively get some stick and pokes. He has the 3 pearls, Blackjack, his SPQR tattoo, his sword and pen, a Trident, and an eye for his brother Tyson. He also has the Empire State Building, and Ichor dripping from his Achilles spot. He has the beads from his necklace, “bob says hello” amongst the stars, and a sand dollar with his family’s names. The golden thread represents the thread of life controlled by the fates, and I imagine when the demigods die the tattoo of the thread will be cut! For Annabeth, he has the fall into Tartarus, “wisegirl”, the NY from her cap, and a quote that I felt was perfect for them. Hope you guys like this one, who do you want to see next?

battle couples has gotta be one of my favorite tropes though. The “you got me?” “Yeah, I got you.” The kiss for good luck. Fighting alongside each other for so long they know every strength and weakness. The dichotomy of being fucking terrifying to their enemies, but so soft with each other. When one is in danger and the other goes feral, protects them at any cost. When everything is over and done, it’s all “let me see where you’re hurt,” and washing off the dirt and blood.
