EVERYBODY HAVING FUN??
Remember back in the days, when the scariest phase in all of gaming wasnāt āHi, weāre from Nintendoā?
not a single braincell between us
Iām excited. Adding kits, weapons and stages. That pencil thing looks awesome. Iām glad Nintendo is going to develop and supp- A communication error has occurred.
Splatoon 3 is, honestly, has been one of the worst launches from Nintendo in a while. Patch 1.2.1 seems to have fixed my connection issues; others are still experiencing the dreaded āA communication error as occurredā. That isnāt my problem with this game, itās the match making. Hopefully I can get into a tricolor match this splatfest. š
I have seen all the posts of people complaining about how bad their teammates are. And, yeah. Playing on a team that is at the very least trying to play the game makes the game a thousand times better. And it honestly feels like the better I do, the worse my teammates become. And while I donāt have any evidence of how matching is made, I do think that placing good players on awful teams is by design.
I think groups are formed by gathering players based on a hidden score and making a group that has average score, then setting them against another team with a similar average (I think this is why the game will put a player from a preformed group on the enemy team). Anyone who took basic statistics could easily identify the problem with this model: the more you go down the bell curve, the more your going to be grouped with players from the other end. This would be fine if Splatoon wasnāt an objective based shooter. You canāt just spam the right guns to get the win, you have to accomplish a specific task.
You do 1400p in a turf war; you have 6 kills and 5 ultimates. But, you loose; and you see two of you teammates didnāt get 500p. One didnāt make 250p, and has no kills or ultimates. Itās demoralizing. Then you go match to match like that. You do tower control and your teammates seem allergic to the tower. The Reef-LUX wonāt leave the base and thinks 3 tenta volleys will solve everything. I can go on, but I think anyone playing this game seriously already has a bunch of examples themselves.
I honestly thought Nintendo would have been already been aware of this. Loosing a player in the last 30 seconds can effectively swing a match in the other direction. A single player whoās just feeding is ruining the match for their team. I think the large player count and the frequent dc problem are magnifying the issue. I understand the advantages of that such a system would be; I also understand disadvantages to grouping players based on skill.
I might not be completely salty about this, but I understand why people are.
