anonymous plot starters for Nevermore Academy

If someone were to follow the painting posted earlier in the day, they would find the cave at the edge of the forest, tucked away as it always had been. What was not as it always had been was the fire inside of it, engulfing the walls and burning anything that might have been inside. There was a hooded figure there, brandishing a can of gasoline and lighting matches. When the presence of someone(s) new was felt, the hooded figure ran off and disappeared quickly. 

Left behind and unburned were large tracks around the cave, much too large to be an animal. Following the tracks would lead to a shift in size of the tracks, where they shrink into human sized before disappearing nearer to Nevermore Academy, covered in fallen leaves and animal activity. 

The fire raged hungrily enough to be seen from both Nevermore and Jericho as well, so if nobody chose to follow the clues from the paintings, anyone can still say they were drawn by the fire to put it out. If nobody puts it on the dash that they put the fire out, or that they need help putting it out, then assume Principal Weems put it out. Everyone still at least had the opportunity to see it, at the very least. 

One question might arise among many after this: Why did Nico buy the painting of the cave and the unknown monster/possible Hyde?

This is a public post on an anonymous social media account that has popped up suddenly. Everyone is following this account with no explanation and everyone is being followed by it. 

Featured in this post is the inside of @electricnico‘s home with paintings of a cave that those that have been at Nevermore for a long time might recognize, though it is in a very secretive corner of the woods, tucked away and rarely visited. There is also a photo of @xavierteachesart’s art studio with a painting of Tanner almost getting hit by the gargoyle and the ominous painting on the bottom right of Nevermore Academy itself.

For the majority of his life, being outside had been one of Nick’s favorite activities. Though, one his species often prevented from happening too much. Spending as much time as he liked outside required the cover of darkness, something he couldn’t say he minded. Having put another day of teaching behind him, Nick had waited anxiously for the sun to set, and for the campus to be shrouded in darkness. Lost in thought, he made his way outside, lost in thought while walking nowhere in particular. Even if he had been paying attention, he wouldn’t have heard the approaching attacker. Truly, he was still lost in the same thoughts when he felt himself land with a thud against the hard earth. By the time he regained his senses and managed to turn around, there was absolutely nothing there. Furrowing his brows, Nick stood cautiously, brushing himself off as he glanced back towards the woods. Cocking his head, Nick took a step closer, squinting in an attempt to see trough the darkness. “Hello?” He called out, willing himself to use the voice he so rarely did. 

The shadows moved and the sounds Nick couldn’t hear were one of a struggle. Then one shadow threw the other and jumped on top of it, ripping at the shadow’s torso with bloody results. Then the surviving shadow lifted its head, looked towards Nick, and ran. It was the monster, or what Nick might eventually recognize as a Hyde because of the subject he taught. Hydes were the only creature banned from the halls of Nevermore, a place that advertised as a place for all misfits and outcasts. They were dangerously strong, as Nick had just seen with his own two eyes. They weren’t taught at Nevermore either, so more research would need to be done for someone that wanted to know more about them. Hydes were also incredibly fast, as proven by the fact that this one got away before Nick could chase it down. This was a situation that Nick was definitely going to need to go back into campus to get some help for. He’d already almost been killed himself and by all accounts, someone else was dead or in need of some serious help.

Between the town of Jericho and the campus of Nevermore was a forested woods that seemed to be an ironic barrier between the two warring factions. The normies in Jericho were direct descendants of pilgrims and were very scared of anything different, which made them angry. They were the type of people to host a witch hunt - while Nevermore was secretly home to many witches, so the problem was obvious. There were Nevermore alumni that ended up living in Jericho after graduation, and a few that had grown up there before attending, but because of the way normies viewed them, they had to keep their supernatural aspects to themselves. Both sides very barely tolerated each other’s presence and the peace between them was fragile. Altercations didn’t happen often, but they weren’t surprising or too rare. 

That would be the first thought most people at Nevermore would have when they heard about what was going to happen next. A hooded figure came out of the woods, shrouded by the darkness of night and muffled by the grass and dirt beneath their feet. The only person that was Nick Andros, who was attacked from behind. Whether the attack was a physical one or supernatural would be unknown, as he didn’t see or hear anything coming, he just felt what could be described as a shove that pushed him to the ground. If he rolled over to face his attacker, he would see what could be described as a monster running on all fours and only stopping when it slammed into the attacker, grabbing them with teeth and claws before barreling into the woods with them. The attack was gruesome, potentially enough to kill the attacker, but they did seem alive as they disappeared into the woods, leaving Nick on the ground, alone.

The night was just like any other night, inconspicuous with nothing out of the ordinary. The weather was fine, there were no strong winds. Suddenly, and without warning, one of the gargoyles at Nevermore Academy fell from the rooftops, quickly descending down towards Tanner O’Connor. There was nobody in sight on the roof, but there were inky, smudged fingerprints on the gargoyle itself. They didn’t stand out hugely against the dark cement of the figure, but if touched it was still wet. 

Before the gargoyle could hit him, Xavier Thorpe appeared seemingly out of nowhere and was able to tackle the other man and push the both of them away. Nearly less than a single second later, the heavy gargoyle hit the ground so hard it shattered.
