THE HITACHI CONNECTION (2001)

THE LATEST GADGET FROM JAPAN WAS MORE THAN IT SEEMED -- AND ONLY DETECTIVE MARCEAU COULD UNCOVER THE TRUTH!

How this cover managed to sneak past the censors is anybody’s guess. The anonymous author was apparently a sci-fi fan, as the “magic wands” were revealed to contain mind control devices.

This is the rarest book in the series, as the HITACHI CORPORATION threatened Ante Up Books with several lawsuits. While the publisher probably would have won on free speech grounds, their finances were too shaky to afford decent counsel, and they agreed to withdraw the book and pulp it. This was after it had been on the bookstore shelves for two weeks, so there are still a few hundred copies in circulation.

It was rumored that after the lawsuit, the Hitachi Corporation sent a case of product to Ms Marceau personally, to avoid any bad feelings.
