When the night was full of terrors
And your eyes were filled with tears
When you had not touched me yet
The nights were empty and cold, the mist covering the view of Medusaâs tall slender body, travelling through the stone-filled hallways. The darkness surrounding them was disfigured as the snakes hissed through the corridor, the anguish bouncing off the walls, back into Medusaâs soul, her grief becoming her only source of joy. Her hands shaking, pressed against the walls as she walked through, in the darkest part of the night. The cold handrails latched against the wall, were covered in ice, that slipped oneâs finger into treacherous fate. Medusa walked along the walls, glaring down at the handrails that looked back up at her shivering in their lonely agony, trembling from the fear of her gaze. Looking outside, Medusaâs glare grew heavy, from the circles that clung from her eyes, observing the plants that withered whenever she glanced at them, turning living things into a cold nightmare that lasts eternity. No individual could ever gain the love of Medusa for she had a heart that was hard to grab, without her eyes, staining the personâs heart with stone, which would leave them frozen for eternity.
As Medusa reached the dying courtyard of the abandoned castle, she sat down near the table, perfectly set for statues, ones made of cold stone. Her gaze shifted from the castle to the garden, her eyes softening as her mouth slowly released all of its tension. So Medusa sat in serenity, relaxing in the darkness, as the moon illuminated her scaly skin. The silence was surreal and deafening to her, even though there was comfort, it was the same silence that was put on her, when she first moved away from the people, the same agony that latched onto her. Nothing made a sound, as the emptiness of the moon nourished the woe in her soul, something that takes forever to heal, and she sat in her pity, as the night carried on its melancholy.Â
On the table, stood a vase of dying roses. Medusa looked at them, gently picking one of the dying roses up, and keeping it close to her chest, as the silence grew more irritating. The snakes began to sing, to fill the void, as Medusaâs eyes were kept on the rose that was withering in her hands, like she had been the god of death. Her eyes were on the rose, the snakes glared at the moon, their hisses growing louder as the wind picked up. As the night blissfully pressed on, the moon illuminates a shadow, lurking through the castle walls, reckless in nature, swinging against the wall as support. Groans seethe out of the ceiling into the courtyard where the yelps are heard by Medusa.Â
The snakes hiss, searching the area for a source, whilst Medusa remains calm and collected, looking around. She got up, moving towards the door into the castle, the floorboards creaking as the figure led her through the darkness. The snakes hissed at the shadow, down the hallway, yet Medusa remained calm and focused as her eyes narrowed to the hallway.
âWho dares to trespass?â Medusa said as she entered the doorway.
Medusa looks around trying to see who the trespasser is, when she spots a girl half her height, holding onto the handrails tightly, her hands trembling slightly. Medusa moved towards the girl hesitantly, as her eyes softened. The snakes continued to him as Medusa approached the girl.
âHush, my loveâŠâ Medusa whispered to her snakes, waiting until they settled down.
Medusa approached the girl, looking her up and down her lips releasing worries, in the blink of an eye. She looked at her snakes before looking back at the girl, gently grabbing her hand, and pulling her away from the handrail. The girl didnât flinch, she didnât even gasp, the only thing she did was smile gently, and Medusa was intrigued by her, everlasting joy that compared to her, was so temporary.Â
âBe careful, that railing isnât something you should be grasping onto. Itâs cursed.â Medusa advised as the girl sighed.Â
Medusa glanced at the girl who stood in front of her, there was something angelic about her or that was what Medusa thought. The snakes would disagree, they were hissing at the girl as if she was merely insignificant, their perceptions of the girl merely touched the surface, but for Medusa, there was something more, endearing about her, something to care for other than her snakes, there was something more than light in her eyes. Medusa looked at her snakes, hushing them as she looked at the girl. She stood there, tilting her head slightly as her hair fell off her shoulders, a detail Medusa picked up on.Â
âOh, well I apologise for my intrusion, and my recklessness.â The girl said.
Medusa crossed her arms looking at the girl, sighing as her snakes hissed.Â
âItâs trespassing you know,â Medusa stated.
The girl nodded gently and smiled.
âOf course, I just thought maybe it would be easy for me to at least come meet you, Iâve met everyone else..â The girl said.
Medusa looked at the girl, as her lips trembled. She sighed and shrugged.
âYouâre new around hereâŠâ Medusa muttered.
The girl chuckled and smiled.
âYes, and the only person who paid attention to me. Even with my disability.â The girl smiled.
Medusa looked at the girl who was smiling, Medusaâs usual upright posture was soon replaced with pity and curiosity. Even though the snakes were still on their guard, prepared to protect Medusa at any time, Medusa was more lenient, showing vulnerability to the shorter woman who stood before her.
âDisability?â Medusa asked.
The girl sighed and nodded, chuckling softly, as her arms became crossed.Â
âWell, Iâm blind. And no, I donât usually stumble around like I did earlier, I just thought my cane would get in the way of so many antique pieces.â The girl admitted.
Medusa stared at the woman, her lips trembling, before looking at the snakes that glared at her, viciously, for their protectiveness was a part of their love. Medusa moved closer to the woman, smiling softly, before grabbing her hand gently.Â
âOh, I suppose that is why you hadnât turned to stone, as others do..â Medusa admitted.Â
The girl smiled at Medusa and squeezed Medusaâs hands softly. Medusa smiled softly at The girl and sighed, gently guiding her to a seat, still holding onto her hands.
âWhatâs your name?â Medusa asked.
The girl giggled and smiled.
âSolara, and you?â She said,Â
Medusa looked at Solara, her eyes softening as her mouth formed a soft smile. There was a part inside of Medusa that was healed, from the smile, and in that moment she recognised, things could get better. Her heart was racing a bit faster, her snakes noticed and looked at her confused by why she could feel so joyful about an intruder, yet the feeling was there, and Medusa didnât want it to leave.Â
âMedusa. Itâs a pleasure to meet you.â Medusa smiled at her.
Though Medusa was able to let down her guard, the snakes werenât so easily swayed. Their hisses got quieter yet they still glared Solara down, treating her as if she was an intruder, their protective nature provided security to Medusa, but in this case, it was just an instinct that canât be ignored, they were merely protecting her. Though Solara couldnât see the snakes, she could still tell, from their hissing noises, that she was an unwelcome guest. Medusa looked at her snakes, combing her hands, petting them gently, as she looked at Solara.Â
Medusaâs eyes remained on Solaraâs figure, just as the pale moonlight touched her body. Even Medusa could recognise it was a graceful gesture, to have the moon shine its love on you, even she could recognise that it was hope from above. Medusa observed how the reflection accentuated Solaraâs lively nature, the smile she always wore, the moon put emphasis on, as she talked in the night. Medusaâs eyes softened at the sight of Solaraâs smile, something thatâd last a while, even in the presence of darkness and misery. For others there was no value in attempting to love, when youâre such a hideous beast, but for Medusa there was peace in the violence of her grief and she could breathe again.Â
âYour smile.â Solara gasped.
Medusa shook her head, covering her mouth looking down at the ground, in her own shame and pity. But Solara was not going to sit there. She stood up, moving towards Medusa, swaying her hips gently as the moonlight followed her, she gently placed her hand on Medusaâs hand, taking it away from her mouth, wearing a smile. Medusaâs gaze kept her in the moment, watching as Solara gazed into Medusaâs eyes, hypnotised by her beauty. Solaraâs sunshine revived the soul that was of Medusa, and so the smile would stay longer in the garden, under the moonlight.
âYou like it?â Medusa whispered.Â
Solara gently placed her hand under Medusaâs chin, lifting it slightly, wearing a smile that was enchanting to the extent, it could leave any individual in a trance for weeks. Medusa described her as an unavoidable joy, that if you met her, you were destined to need her with you, because anytime you were without her, you felt empty. To Medusa, Solara was the joy that she needed her entire life.
âWho wouldnât love a smile that is so lovely, like yours?â Solara whispered, the moon carrying her love towards Medusa.Â
Medusaâs face that once was stone cold melted into a liquid that was warmed up by the presence of an angel that took the form of Solara, a blessing to be seen by Medusa. Even Medusa couldnât deny that her figure drew her in, and possibly it was not just longing for a friendship, maybe there was something so irresistible about Solara that made her wish for more. Medusaâs lips released and so she gasped. And so Solara, squeezed her hand whilst she took in the air that was heating up more that they stood close, the more they looked at each other. The gentle smile that Solara wore, only made Medusa feel flustered, by the beauty she held. As she gazed at Solara, she could tell her body was shivering under the night sky, in the view of the moon, it was graceful, a word Medusa would constantly use for Solara, because that was what she was, she was grace, she was perfection to Medusa. The mist that came out of Solaraâs mouth was of the cold musky air that surrounded them and Medusa knew that if she was out here for too long, the angel would pass Medusa if she didnât do anything. Medusa sighed, and wrapped her arm around Solaraâs waist.Â
âHey⊠Let me help you, Solara⊠Iâll give you somewhere to rest.â Medusa said to her.Â
There was no response from Solara, but Medusa could tell she trusted her enough, and so gently, Medusa guided her through the castle, listening as Solara breathed, and that was enough for Medusa. She needed no hug, no word, just her breathing was enough for Medusa. She looked through the halls, as her breath echoed and there was nothing that Medusa didnât love about Solara, but she didnât know how to say it. When Medusa looked at Solara, it was liberating to be freed from the darkness, when Medusa sat in the darkness, it was Solara holding the lit lantern guiding them to the exit. As they walked up the stairs, blush was on Medusaâs face, being flustered as she was from holding onto Solara, it was paradise for her and she didnât want her to leave. The exhaustion was catching up to Solara, and Medusa could tell, she could barely keep herself awake. Solara was clinging onto Medusa in grace, her exhaustion made it harder to be present in the moment. Medusa was concerned at the state of her, and so this was when the instincts took control of her body, and in the blink of an eye, Medusa gasped for air as she gently picked Solara in her arms, caressing her gently, and in this moment it was magical, another reality she couldnât leave.Â
âMedusaâŠâ Solara whispered.Â
Medusa smiled as they approached her bedroom. She approached the door, gently tugging on the handle, until the door opens and so she walks into the bedroom, cradling Solara in her arms gently, with her breath leaving an everlasting kiss on Solaraâs body, even if she wanted them to kiss, she did it in her breath to let her know that she cares and so she could be freed from regret. As they approached the bed, there was regret in Medusaâs mouth and she didnât want to let go. And she wouldnât deny, it felt so mystical when she held Solara in her arms, there was a part of her that yearned for that touch, for the warmth that Solara had and she wanted her right near her. And Medusa knew that the feelings she had shouldnât interrupt her tasks but she was so close to her. Medusa leaned towards her face, and in an instant the world around them fades, and she holds it there, the feelings blooming, of the urge to kiss her in the room right then, she wanted to kiss her, that was hard to deny, it felt like forever she would feel like this, and she gazed at Solara wanting to kiss her.Â
âSolaraâŠâ Medusa muttered.Â
When Medusa uttered the name of the beauty that she held in her arms, tranquillity was restored to the house, all the darkness left the hallways and the rooms, as the candle wicks, lit themselves to celebrate the beginning of a newfound life, one that had always seemed like paradise to Medusa, but in her hopeless nature she had never found a way to achieve it. After a while, Medusa gently placed Solara on the bed, chuckling to herself. The silent room quaked as Medusa turned away from the bed, attempting to leave. But, the silence was soon broken and so was Medusaâs tracks.
âWhere are you going?â Solara had asked.
Medusa glanced back at Solara, before moving towards Solara once again.
âWell, Iâll be sleeping on the couch I have, itâs important youâre comfortable. After all, you're my guest.â She smiled.
Even when Medusa turned her back, she could tell the distasteful expression on Solaraâs face, maybe it was of disappointment, confusion, but Medusa glanced back at Solaria, who had slowly sat up on the bed, with her hands over one another in her lap. Medusaâs eyes were laid on her hands, her hair, her body, though everything was odd in this moment, it felt perfect, the way she sat, the way she spoke, to Medusa, it was all what she asked for and yet, she still had fear, the same one that prevented her from meeting others, even though she was certain she could not turn this lovely woman into stone, she was afraid of what she could do to her.
âMedusa, I promise you, I wonât take up the entire bed. Just please, the idea of you walking out of this room is vivid and terrifying, just stay here. Thatâs my only request.â Solara said.
Medusa slowly moved towards Solara, kneeling towards her with a smile. Her gaze fixed on Solara, and though Solara couldnât see, Medusa was pledging to Solara, the only other person sheâd pledge to. Medusa gently placed her hand on Solaraâs, squeezing it as she looked at her endearingly. Against all odds, Medusa fought the instinct of shying away from the woman, because there was something comforting, tender about her nature, which was more welcoming than those who sought Medusa out for her âgift.â. Solara didnât know it, but she had brought warmth back into Medusa, and her snakes wouldnât hiss at the woman as they once did. They were quiet, when the two interacted, even Medusaâs body slowly began to finally release and relax, moving closer to Solara, as a source of warmth for the sorrow she had kept in her heart. Medusa smiled at Solara, her face lightened by Solaraâs presence, and so she kept her eyes on Solara.Â
âYour wish is my command, mâlady.â Medusa said.
Then, Medusa approached the bed, slowly, lifting herself on it. When the two laid on the bed together, it was awkward. Medusa distanced herself from Solara, trying to give her privacy and space. All they could hear was each otherâs breathing, though Medusa noticed that Solaraâs breath had more depth, was overall slower than Medusaâs. She could tell by how she breathed, that Solara was comfortable, and she had hoped that would have been the case, any other situation and Medusa would look down upon herself, putting the walls back up she took down just for Solara, because she believed Medusa couldnât hurt her. Medusa believed Solara.Â
âAre you okay Medusa?â Solara asked,
Medusa sighed. Solara had noticed. The speed at which her heart was racing, how her breaths were shallow and quick, Medusaâs panic became more obvious as it was noticed. Maybe because it was such a predicament to be in, to be sleeping in the same bed as a lady as beautiful as she, to be beside Solara, even if it was just a temporary feeling.Â
âIâm alright Solara, no need for concern.â Medusa reassured.Â
Though, those simple words werenât enough to fool a woman like Solara. And so, Solara didnât give up and she wore the widest smile, as she placed her hand on the sheets gently, looking up at the ceiling, navigating her blindness. Medusa sat and watched, curious by what she was doing. After a while, Medusa noticed Solara, moving closer to her, if she were to resist, sheâd lose the opportunity, and so she grabbed Solara by the waist, pulled her closer to her body, gazing at the beauty, that was for the night in her arms, just like something she owned, something warm, she was there, where it was empty. Solara smiled blushing slightly.
âIs that better?â Medusa asked.
