Sensible Starters - Part Three

A really long time ago, I shared a couple bundles of starter homes that I think are good for affordable housing or simply pretty townie houses. Since I feel like it’s kind of lame to share just one dinky little starter, once again I’m sharing four homes in one. If you want to see the starters I shared before: Part One | Part Two

I’ve made these four houses in a similar style so they all look like they belong in the same world; my intention is that they could all be placed next to each other and look realistic and cohesive. I like my starters to not look like starters from the outside—that is, I want them to be pretty and landscaped. And I like to be able to keep my Sim in their starter house for a while—even after I add more people to the household—so while the furnishings are very sparse, there’s definitely enough space to be playable. 

I hope you guys enjoy these! If you end up using these in your game, I’d love to see it.

PRIMER: HD Skin for All Ages (Baby-Elder)

This is a brand new skin, but should suit sims made with Starfruit, as I try to keep my face textures neutral enough to work with a wide variety of features. Everything, from the ears to the fingernails and genitals, has been painted and tweaked to the best of my ability. It’s still not perfect, but if I don’t share this now, I never will.

I am sharing this in a variety of resolutions so you can pick the quality level appropriate for your game - the non-defaults will not conflict, and the ramps are labeled with the quality level so you can easily compare. 

The elder bodies are not included in the default versions. Elders will instead use my adult body textures. This is because by default, EA shares the same body texture for teens through elders. You can only have unique teen/elder body textures with non-default skins.

*4/23/2017* For anyone spotting this download for the first time, I’d like to add that after numerous, numerous attempts at editing the specular to produce greater in-game effects, I haven’t been able to produce a worthwhile result. You’re free to download this and try it for yourself, but I would keep expectations at a minimum. Currently debating deleting this altogether. This makes a minuscule amount of difference in that it has less glare than EA’s smeary default, however, that’s about it.  

*UPDATED 2/26/16* So, it seems that the face specular can also impact the eye mesh. My original version of this mod may have caused a slight sheen on the iris. Thanks to @buckleysims, I’ve corrected this issue.  Please re-download! I apologize for the inconvenience. 

HD Specular Default Replacement (1K Faces & 2K Bodies)

Primer’s texture has been mixed with EA’s maps and details have been adapted from Buhudain’s normal maps. Scalps, faces and bodies are all included to ensure seamless shine. Just like You Are Real, this should enhance the appearance of all skins that do not include custom specular maps. This is intended to complement Buhudain’s mod, not replace it. I use this with You Are Real. Ultimately, specular changes are pretty subtle, and the difference is better captured in motion than in a single image. All screenshots were taken with this replacement installed.

So Captainsimerica, aka Kimberly, suggested that I make this available in a darker tone, so I made two chocolate tone ramps and darkened the skin just a bit with the burn tool in PS! Again not perfect but it’s just the same skin on a dark ramp! Also in CAS it has a highlight on the body, but in game it goes away! Enjoy!

Edits & Maternity Morphs: Blouse with Round Collar, Silk Chemise

These are my first age conversions for clothes! 😊 I don’t know whether anyone else has converted them for teens or not, but I figured the top would be good for a first try, and threw in a pregnancy morph because why not. These are all basegame compatible, will not conflict with the adult versions, and have all morphs and LODs.

Update: Sim Mania has converted the blouse for teens and elders with the original masks/channels! 🙂

Store Blouse with Round Collar

Issue: some very slight clipping on the sides with loose skirts.

+ For Teen females. + Enabled for Everyday, Formal, Career, Makeover, Maternity, Random. + 4 channels, 3 presets. The first preset has regular tiling (4x4), the second one has 2x smaller (8x8), and the third has 4x smaller (16x16). + Based on the Blouse with Round Collar.

Master Suite Stuff Silk Chemise

Issue: the pregnant belly looks a bit blocky under the breasts, but it shouldn’t be too noticeable and doesn’t cause issues.

Store Blouse with Round Collar texture edit + maternity morph

As per request, I edited the adult blouse to match the teen one, with two more channels and a maternity morph. Sim Mania has also converted the original version of the blouse for teens and elders (with maternity morphs as well), if you want that version :)

Issue: some slight clipping on the right side with some animations. The previews show some color leakage around the collar; I corrected that for the final version of the edit.

2 Store tops edited and converted for teens

‘The Bowie’ had a really annoying mask, so I changed the channels around, got rid of those secondary lapels and made an overlay for the zipper and beads at the end of the hood laces. And for the ‘Low Back Sweater’, I edited the mask to have 4 channels instead of 1, and added texture to the sleeves.

Made the lapels recolorable because why not. Also removed the hoodie laces; I initially made them recolorable, but the flatness made them look awful.

Littlecat/editsim previously made BGC versions of these, but they are no longer available on her site or in her backup folders. So, here they are! And while I’ve never worked with shoes before, I’m thinking of doing age conversions of these in the future - unless someone else has done it already, of course 😊
