I still remember all the nights I spent praying, dreaming, and crying because I wanted to not feel like a stranger in my own body. I lived like that for 30 years…my heart and mind constantly at war with the reflection I saw every day in the mirror. Broken, depressed, and tired, I never imagined I’d ever live a happy life.

Until…

I finally made the decision to be true to myself.

Almost 10 years ago now, I transitioned and it is still surreal to look in a mirror or see a picture because I never truly believed I’d be this happy or feel like I’m at home in my own body.

These photos are about 16 years apart…yet I look as if I haven’t aged at all 😱😁

I don’t share this or any other posts like this for shock value or as some have said, to “confuse” people. This is my life and my story and believe it or not, I didn’t choose to be trans. In fact, I ran from my truth for 30 years…I prayed more than you can imagine for how I felt to go away and it never did.

I’m not here for your approval or any kind of need for you to like me or want to follow me. What I hope for, more than anything, is for you to SEE me…to really see me. See the joy in my eyes that wasn’t there before. See the way my smile lights up a room now. See that I’m human…a person, just like you, who has hopes and dreams. A person who wants to live life to the fullest. A person who wants to play basketball and make new friends. A person that is happier now than she has ever been because when I look in the mirror, my reflection finally matches who I’ve been on the inside my whole life.

We get this one life…this one chance to make the most out of our time here on earth. Hopefully I will have made a difference for others during my time because I’m gonna enjoy my life and use every opportunity I get to inspire and educate whomever I can.

This photo was taken years ago in Dallas for my friend Raul’s fashion line. It was printed in a magazine in a small ad toward the back. I thought it was cool but it wasn’t a cover or full page shot so I wasn’t that excited. At least not until a friend changed my perspective. She said, “you’re in an ad, in a luxury magazine, as a model...that’s the goal isn’t it?” She was absolutely right! I accomplished something big and I am still proud of that accomplishment to this day.

When I apply that same change of perspective to my life and who I am as a transgender woman, something amazing happens. Rather than hating who I was for the first 30 years of my life or resenting who I am because I’m “different,” I can be grateful for experiencing life in a way that few ever do. Talk about different perspectives!Living 30 years as one gender with a lot of wonderful memories and experiences, then living the rest of my life authentically (in my correct gender)...no longer with shame or resentment for who I am or the journey I’ve been on.

With politicians taking heavy aim at trans youth this year and headlines continuously creating a negative stigma around the community, it’s crucial to dive into the facts regarding trans athletes and put aside the false narrative led theories.

In this video, I will discuss how biology and biological advantages play out in the sports world, the records of trans athletes regularly heard about in the media, the importance of sports in the lives of our youth, and look at how we really treat female athletes.

I’m beyond blessed to have parents who accept, love, and support me. Aren’t they adorable?!

I remember being terrified to tell them who I was when I was younger so I ran fast and far from my truth...all the way to a degree in Christian Ministries and into a marriage. I chased normalcy so hard that, not only did I find it, I became trapped in it. There were good moments that I’m thankful for and I won’t regret the past because it shaped me to who I am now, but I was far from happy. As a kid, I often thought about suicide because I didn’t fit in and HATED my body so badly.

I share all of that because there are bills targeting trans youth all over the country. Many of them are targeting healthcare for those youth and trying to find ways to eliminate it. They are also targeting the parents, citing child abuse for affirming their child’s identity. This all has to stop!! Trans kids deserve our protection, love, support, and help. It isn’t easy being labeled different...no one willfully chooses that ridicule. We don’t choose to be trans and our parents don’t choose that for us either. This is who we are. Listen to us when we tell you and respect that. We are not hurting you in any way by living our lives.

Those of you who are speaking up against us, no one asked your opinion. The real abuse is your discrimination, hate, and lack of understanding. Worry about the abuse your putting your children through by teaching them to hate others. Be and do better!!
