When a black man tells a woman that she looks mixed as a form of endearment, he’s insinuating that her beauty comes from the (allegedly) non BLACK part of her. All they’re effectively saying is: You’re too beautiful to just be BLACK. Oh, but I am. We aren’t beautiful in spite of our BLACKNESS, we are beautiful because of it.

I think women empowering other women, well it is the most significant thing I could ever do for women. I say that to shine light on a very unique, brilliant woman in my life. She is responsible for these images. 

I believe It takes a woman to see the hidden beauty within another woman. Angles that make me feel sexy. Lighting that embraces my love for intimacy. The Quiet. The Desire. The Lust. We all have a kinky side. Even the most conservative women have fantasies of being a nasty girl for someone. We all want to feel empowered without judgement. We all want to feel free in our skin, and loose, however, powerful in our stance. I  implore other women to feel as liberated as I did in front of that woman. In order to understand that, we must first realize that we are all multi layered beings. We are all naughty by nature, but does my appreciation for sex diminish my right as a nurturer? No. It does not.

 So again, thank you for seeing all layers of me that most will never know. Thank you for looking at me as an equal, and for constantly sharing comfort & being apart of our cosmic environment.

I am not sure what in life is more powerful than black people that understand the significance of music. I have been fortunate enough to grow up in the city that changed the way that music was experienced. On behalf of that… on behalf of knowing the struggling artist voyage… S/o to every musician that has ever played/sang a heart felt note. S/o to the writers/composers who are often told that they don’t make the type of music that people want to hear. Love to every musician that couldn’t get play in their own city. Got skipped at an open mic night, didn’t win that competition, or was asked to fuck for a session in the studio. S/o to anyone who experienced their passion being abused, or not taken seriously. I know your struggle and your pain all to well. The best therapy, is to find people who feel that struggle and pour your heart out together. Jam sessions have channeled so many of my fondest memories in life. Make incredible moments that make that night feel so moving that it inspires you instantaneously. Know that those relationships wont last forever, But man did they give you life. Man did they make you feel something spectacular. And man, have they been apart of your molding. 

You beautiful musicians…. creators…. risk takers…. may you find solace in your independent genius. May so many of your rough patches be the catalysts of magic melody’s. May your hurt be healed by the language of emotion, and your fears and doubt subside to the rhythm of the tempo beating in your heart. This is your light… don’t let anyone dim it.
