The museum of New Emerging Art & Technology (N.E.A.T) is a web based museum developed to curate work that uses/combines technology and art to create artwork. Artists have long been open to the use of new technology to create artwork and since World War II technology and art have been combined to produce cutting edge pieces. This museum is dedicated to the curation of this artwork. From dance to interactive artwork, we would like to preserve the work for future generations to study and look at. The combination of art and technology includes artwork that uses technology to produce the work like computer graphics, motion graphics or aids in the production of the work, programs like Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Artwork that involves interactivity, choreography and technology should be curated and N.E.A.T. will be looking for artwork to curate that uses these technologies. (Don Dreyer)
N.E.A.T wants visitors to experience and enter into a different world. There is only one connection between all of the visitors; that linkage is that everyone is experiencing the artwork but in their own way. The pieces contain the author’s name, year created, and a short description. N.E.A.T does not guide the viewer about the meaning of the art pieces, but encourages individuals to come in with an open mind and have their own perspectives of what the artwork is trying to express. (Jessica German)
Another one of our main objectives is for our visitors to be fully engaged with the artwork that we have chosen to curate. We want them to feel that they are an integral part of the art's success. The art that will be featured in the N.E.A.T museum will in large part be interactive art. We want visitors to have the opportunity to engage with the artwork and not just be spectators. Some types of interactive art that will be featured will use computers and sensors to respond to motion. (Vanessa Chavez)
N.E.A.T also strives is to allow for active discussions within its online archive about all its pieces. This in turn brings people together to talk and analyze a certain piece. As mentioned before everyone “experiences the artwork in their own way,” and this online discussion or chat allows for further discussion amongst people from many different parts of the world. N.E.A.T allows open discussions about a vast majority of their work, it encourages a community to get together and understand individually or as a group the meaning portrayed in a piece. Dedicated to provide the ease of access through virtual museums, online galleries, outdoor exhibitions, and physical galleries, N.E.A.T. is committed to overcome the interactive limitations that exist between art and audience. The goal is to provide various ways for visitors to access the gallery, each providing a unique experience for every individual. The diverse platforms serve to provide a dynamic and innovative sense through the commitment to deliver the highest level of interaction and connection possible for the diverse audience. (Jennifer Chien)
In addition, N.E.A.T. aims to preserve new media art in an age where the platforms of most of these works of art are often fragile, be it a data file or a page on the world wide web. At N.E.A.T., the preservation of these new media pieces is of utmost importance as there is a necessity to maintain these vast collections for future generations to witness and experience. Our goal is to be able to store and protect all forms of new media art, as well as having them archived in such a way that they are readily accessible for later audiences. (Lindsey Chu)
Every person has their own store of creativity. N.E.A.T. hopes to draw out that creativity and inspire viewers of N.E.A.T to expand their horizons. By inspiring people to be creative, viewers could begin creating their own artwork, which can lead to their artwork being displayed in museums everywhere, possibly even at N.E.A.T. This cycle is what makes art museums like N.E.A.T. possible, to encourage people to be creative and create new media art. (Ruby Chen)
