What is the most annoying habit that other people have?
breathing.
What word or phrase would you say you overuse?
fuck, it works in every situation.
Ever wish you were doing something different with your life?
doesn’t everyone? but i don’t have many options to make those wishes come true so, they’re going to stay wishes.

Power was finally restored again and after spending the entire night up and about Dianna could really use something to feel less stressed out, she also thought that maybe she needed to run a double check on the people who were still at the motel, starting by Nadia. She hadn’t spoken to the brunette during the entire night and she was feeling half concerned, half the worst friend in the entire world. Asking for a small break to Lila, she gathered some breakfast food for two and made her way to the motel grounds. The sun was starting to make it’s way to the sky and she was sure that the other woman was probably dead beat and tired as well, so food might actually do some good for the both of them. As soon as she stepped inside the property, she walked over to the front desk with a small smile and tiredness written all over. “Morning,” Dianna greeted, putting the packed food on the counter. “I brought some food and thought that if you can step out for a minute we could have a picnic?” She chuckled at her own choice of words. “If things are in order, that is.”
some days it felt as if nadia had not left the front desk at all. she worked until the front office closed, sometimes later depending on how much work she had to do, only to return bright and early the next day. it was exhausting and most days she wanted to hurt at least one person but, the pay was decent. she just wished she could get more time away from the office and to herself. there were days that weren’t so bad though, and those involved seeing those she actually liked --- a very short list. seeing dianna’s smiling face first thing in the morning was on the pros list of her job. there were few people nadia got along with but the younger woman had grown on her easily. like lila, dianna was someone who had a way of making nadia smile. people like that were the company nadia liked to keep close ---once she accepted there were people that actually wanted to be her friend that is. she had just clocked in when she walks through the doors of the front office carrying food, nadia would likely starve without her. “ morning, ” nadiageets with a soft smile, pushing a chunk of hair behind her ear. with the power on, nadia had a half day to catch up on at least but she wasn’t eager to begin and a cup of coffee wasn’t exactly an adequate breakfast. “ a picnic? you’re adorable, you know that right? ” nadia asks. picnics weren’t something nadia did, it was very rare. “ please, work can wait, ” she says as she makes her way out from behind her desk and to her. “ what’s on the menu? ”
A LOOK IN SOMEBODY’S EYES; TO LIGHT UP THE SKIES.
ursula-atwell:
It had been a long day – no, really that seemed like an understatement based on the lawyer’s current mood. The twenty-four hours were drawing to a close as the hands on the clock struck 10:45 and Ursula was more than thankful for the prospect of a new day. “Hopefully tomorrow will be better,” she uttered into her palms, almost like a salute to the shit she had endured previously. Steady hands rested carefully on Ursula’s cheeks and a straw dangled from her lips as she sucked down the vodka cranberry she had been nursing for a good portion of the night.
She was alone, preferred it that way. She didn’t want to be bothered by any client, or anyone from her work for that matter because then that forced her to converse in tedious small talk about the weather. As a lawyer, one most always “turn it on,” as her professional used to say. They must always be willing to put on a good show but if Ursula could avoid it tonight, she would like the plague. The occasional suitor tried to slink his way in, clad with a self-obsessed smile and slurring something along the lines of, “you know, pretty women shouldn’t sit alone,” to which Ursula’s response was, “well then I guess I’m not that pretty.” And that was that, they usually got the hint from the woman’s deadpanned nature.
In the vast sea of people, Ursula found her eyes wandering, flickering through the various faces, none of them familiar. That was until her subtle gaze landed on hers. “Thought I might run into you here,” she started off, leaning against the bar frame. “You know, I think I read an article somewhere, about the warning signs of drinking alone. Could lead to Alzheimer’s? Now, I don’t know if it’s true or not, but for the scientific sake… I guess we better not leave it to chance.” The lawyer then stopped, a bright smile painting her features. “Alright, so maybe I just wanted to see your face, is that so wrong?”
Flagging down the bartender, Ursula flashed him a polite smile before handing him her glass. “Two more, please. I’m buying.” She said before focusing her attention back onto Nadia. “Please tell me you’ve had a better day than I have and if so, distract me with the details.” When the bartender came back with their drinks, Ursula collected hers and held it high into the air. “To science.”
( @nadiaruns )
the past week had been hell. nadia felt as if she’d aged five years in the process. she was aware with jimmy gone, shit would go wrong but she was tired and over it already. she couldn’t fathom what the universe had in store for her next. maybe her death? who knew at this point. nadia hoped jimmy was having a good time with his partner but she wished she could hit fast forward until he returned. she also wished she could find competent employees who didn’t disappear on her but apparently, that was too much to ask for.
the starlite had turned into a first home, her own coming in second. not only had her work life been a mess but her personal life wasn’t any better. not with estranged husband on the property and back in her life. she didn’t know who she pissed off to have such bad luck right now --- it could have been anyone with her track record; nadia was good at making enemies, it was a talent. the only thing that could make it better was a good drink or ten. it seemed as if bars had become a third home of hers. it wasn’t a healthy habit and she knew it. that didn’t mean she planned on scaling back anytime soon though, not when things were one shitstorm after another.
nadia didn't necessarily like to drink alone but it had started happening more often than not. she watches as the bartender pours her another glass of whiskey. her eyes followed the amber liquid as it spilled out over the fresh ice cubes. nadia lifts the glass to her lips and takes a drink as she scans the dimly lit bar. it isn’t hard to spot the blonde. ursula didn’t exactly look like the usual crowd, not that that was a bad thing. there was something about her, she came off much more refined compared to the people nadia was used to. compared to herself.
“ this stool might as well have my name on it at this point ” nadia quips, taking another drink before setting the glass down on the bartop. it was nice to have company, it kept herself out of her own head for a little while. “ oh yeah? must’ve taught that after i dropped out. ” she jokes dryly. nadia had heard a lot of pick-up lines in the past but this one was new. she didn’t detest it like she did most of the ones she’d experienced in the past. nadia’s eyebrow arches at ursula’s honesty. she always did prefer how a woman flirted with her over a man. “ i mean i do have a pretty great face, can’t say i really blame you. ” she replies, a soft smile on her lips.
nadia licks her lips as she watches her flag down the bartender and decides to polish off the rest of her glass, the whiskey going down smoothly. she knew she didn’t need anymore, two was good enough but with each glass the stress of her day and those the preceded it melted off. nadia lets out an easy laugh. a better day? she doubts it. “ i don’t know about that but my day was shit, as usual. i’m ready to fucking fling myself into traffic. ” she retorts, grabbing her drink. “ yeah, to science. ” nadia repeats, clinking her glass against the blondes before lifting it to her lips.
ezra--benson:
If Ezra was honest with himself, he actually enjoyed the holidays. Sure they were a constant reminder that he didn’t have a perfect family but it was also a reminder that life could be a whole lot worse and at least he had a mom who actually gave a shit about him. But it usually just meant a good meal with his mom and falling asleep on the couch watching TV after opening a few presents so he hadn’t expected any different this year. Until he came home to a mini winter wonderland in their living room. He knew he should have know better. His mom was so set on making Vegas their home but he was afraid of buying into a promise that she may not be able to keep. It wasn’t that he didn’t trust her but she could be impulsive and so could he. Just one wrong move and they could be out on their asses again.
Still, it was hard not to smile when he saw her excitement, something he had missed over the past two weeks. She had seemed off but it had taken him longer to notice than he would have liked to admit. So he jumped into it with her, wanting to see her smile as he pulled on a santa hat, loaded up a spotify christmas playlist and moved around the apartment to help her start setting up the tree. “Oh god, you still have those?” Ezra laughed as he walked over to the box and peered inside, shaking his head at his past art skills. “The fact that they’re still all together is amazing. When I become a famous artist one day they’re gonna put this in a museum. After they pry the box from your hands of course,” he joked and started to take some ornaments out. “Real question, is eggnog actually good? Cause it seems gross but I was gonna suggest us trying to make it.”
there was no doubt that everything nadia did was for ezra but she was impulsive and selfish at her very core. those were her biggest flaws and she could never shake them. they always led to trouble and nadia skipping town the first chance she got which only hurt ezra in the end. keeping her promise to not leave and make las vegas into a home was difficult, especially in the past couple of weeks since her altercation with her estranged husband. nadia was an expert at not dealing with her problems and dominic was the origin of who nadia was today. all of her instincts were telling her to run but she was trying her best not to. she’d been distant when it came to ezra while she figured out what she was going to do and she felt guilty about it.
making the holidays special for him would make up for it and all her past selfish, shitty decisions --- she hoped. doing this for ezra made her feel like less of a grinch, seeing him happy and smiling would make it all worthwhile. “ what do you mean oh god? they’re all beautiful! ” she argues. nadia was guilty of not being vocal enough about how proud of him she was but, all of his art was beautiful to her. he was talented and she had no idea where he got that from. “ no museum is getting their hands on them. i busted my ass making sure they stayed in one piece and i’m going to be buried with this box. or cremated, whatever you choose. ” she says teasingly as she helps him take some of them out. “ eggnog is only good when there’s enough booze in it and we’ll make it so, there will be. ”
lilacsinclair:
It must’ve been a funny scene– two women having flopped back onto the sofa, one visibly in a fucking great mood, the other clutching a bottle of wine to her chest. Lila leaning her head against Nadia’s shoulder was a cherry on top. Perhaps it should’ve been the other way around but let’s face it– Nadia was the rock, Lila a shameless cuddler. “You love me?” The manager questioned playfully, knowing the answer; she even mentally prepared herself for a smack she earned herself.
“What did he say to deserve it?” It wasn’t the question of if he deserved it in the first place. It must’ve been something. Even if it was just showing up – Lila thought it was a reason good enough. The woman leaned forward for a moment, to pour the wine in glasses. At the mention of Ezra still being clueless, she looked back at Nadia. “Are you planning on telling him? How pissed do you think he’ll be– on a scale from zero to breaking all plates at the Grille?”
lila’s head on her shoulder doesn’t bother nadia one bit. she was never one for any type of intimacy but, there were a select few she was okay with and lila was one of them. she rests her head on lila’s for a moment, “ don’t question it or i’ll smack you. ” nadia half-jokes. she’d been impressed with how lila could handle her, most people couldn’t and she’d stuck around. it was impressive considering how easily nadia made enemies, nadia was sure lila was going to end up hating her too. “ and you know i will, ” she reminds her with a soft nudge. it was comforting to be able to be herself with her without worry. it was nice.
nadia shrugs, justing seeing dom’s face was enough to set her off. his flirtatious nicknames would have worked years ago but now, they only triggered her anger more. “ at first he just.. showed up. i thought i was hallucinating.. ” she begins, “ then he called me baby and darling like i was that fucking fifteen-year-old girl again and i just saw red. ” she props her elbow onto the back of the couch, resting her head in her hand. “ next thing i know i’m swinging and he’s saying we need to talk and i’m shoving him and yelling.. ” nadia chews the inside of her cheek as she replays that night in her head. “ i mean when we were together, we fought y’know? towards the end we were always at each other's fucking throats and usually fighting would turn us on but, that wasn’t even happening anymore. ”
she knows she’s rambling but she can’t quite stop it. she hadn’t really gotten to talk about it not when preparations had been underway for jimmy’ vacation.. “ all those feelings from the night i saw him with that skank came flooding back.. if that new security guard hadn’t been on duty and broke it up, i’m sure it would have gotten really ugly. ” she knows dominic would never hit her, even at their worst in ash springs he never put a hand on her no matter how intense their arguing got. “ and not even ‘cause of him, he never hit me and he wouldn’t. i just really wanted to hurt him. ” she’d never felt that so intensely or at all in the past and it scared her when she thought about it now. she’d always been a hothead and unafraid of getting physical with people but this was different. nadia can’t help but frown at the mention of ezra’s anger. “ uh… more like punch a few holes in the wall angry? but i don’t think he’d bring that shit to work with him. he’d probably just shut down, act like a big asshole, and ice everyone out like i do. ”

EZRA: Language!
EZRA: 😒 Okay, okayyyy
EZRA: You always embarrass me in front of the cashier! ESPECIALLY if it's someone who's cute. I'm definitely too cool. I'm gonna go with Wyatt. He seems like he knows how to bullshit your way into impressing people.
NADIA: fine bullfuckingshit, better?
NADIA: the day i die you'll regret choosing to go shopping with wyatt over me
NADIA: 💔
@ezra--benson
when she was a kid, nadia naturally loved christmas for the presents. the older she got, that love faded. it wasn’t as fun as an adult but every year she tried her best to make it at least decent. where she slacked in decorations and a tree, she busted her ass picking up every shift she could wherever she worked at the time to get him good gifts. this year was different though. vegas wasn’t one of their temporary homes, it was going to be permanent and a permanent home meant a real christmas. it meant decorations, an actual tree, ugly sweaters, and all that other crap from movies and tv shows. they didn’t have the big family to go with it but they had each other and that was enough.
she hadn’t take christmas seriously since before leaving dominic. it had always been about ezra and now it wasn’t any different. nadia rifles through her closet looking for the box of important ornaments, a collection of the ones ezra had made her in school over the years. no matter what, no matter where they ended up, she saved anything he made for her. they helped her feel like less of a shit mom. they reminded her who she was doing everything for. a grin appears on her lips when she finds it. even though they spent all afternoon buying decorations, she couldn’t exclude them from their tree. she pulls the box out --- the dull pain in her hand going ignored --- and drags it into the living room where she left ezra to put up the tree. ( artificial, this christmas might have been special but she still didn’t trust any of them to have a real one. ) “ look what i found ” she says in a singsong voice, grin widening.

EZRA: Pretty sure it's gonna be a the grille but yeah, sure, if I remember :P

NADIA: bullshit
NADIA: think who does the grocery shopping at home, maybe then you'll remember to bring me food
NADIA: UM EXCUSE YOU, i'm more than capable of going shopping with you????? but you're too cool for your mom that's fine, ask wyatt, ollie, or lila
lilacsinclair:
Lila could swear she had heart eyes looking at her friend. In moments like these it seemed as if Nadia could read her mind, which was comforting because it meant Lila didn’t have to say or explain much. One look at Nadia and all was clear. Nadia constantly reminded her it was alright to show emotions instead of suppressing them while Lila in return understood all too well what being impulsive was like but realized one needed to possess some self-control as well. “I love you and you know it but for now I just need a drink and a few bad jokes,” she groaned and sank deeper into sofa, hugging the bottle. The brunette listened to Nadia with an arched eyebrow but she had to admit the other had a point. She feared the day Nadia and Dominic, two titans collided. “Don’t worry, I got you. My special savings account called Jail Bird is ready to be used.” Lila took the corkscrew from her. “On a serious note, when did you see him last?”
nadia didn’t click with people. she was crude and cold. she didn’t trust anyone and kept to herself. she preferred to keep people at an arm's length, it made it easier not to get close or attached to anyone when she inevitably left town. it made for a lonely existence but it was how nadia had lived her life even before dominic. when she did finally let someone in, it just ended with heartbreak and it was easy to go right back into keeping everyone away. bit of course, fate had different plans for her. she applied to and started working at the starlite. though she promised ezra las vegas would be a permanent residence --- their home, nadia hadn’t planned on opening up to anyone or making friends but then lila happened. the woman managed to get past the concrete fortress nadia had around herself and now she happily called her a friend. she was grateful to have her.
nadia grabs a bag of popcorn for them before returning to the living room and settling onto the couch next to her friend. “ and i’m more than happy to give that to you ” nadia says, giving lila a sincere smile --- a rare thing for her. she sets the popcorn and glasses onto the coffee table. “ and that’s why i love you. ” she muses with a laugh at the mention of a jailbird fund. it was nice to have someone to joke around like this with besides her son. nadia lifts her legs onto the couch, moving them under herself and lets out a sigh thinking about the fight with dominic in the front office. her years of pent-up anger got the best of her and she wasn’t proud of the way she attacked him. “ haven’t seen him since i punched him in the face, been trying my best to avoid him at all costs ” she confesses. “ haven’t told ezra he’s around either. ”
“Ain’t a woman alive that could take my mama’s place.” (x)
