The worst part about "Toph wouldn't let him get away with it" is that, even if we do accept the premise that Aang's breakdowns are indications of his manipulative and abusive nature, they would still be wrong. Because Toph completely let Aang take his anger out on her due to her guilt over losing Appa. It's almost like... being abused... isn't dependent on how tough and strong you are... but on how your abuser uses your feelings against you... But ok, since Toph is a strong independent woman, she would never ~let~ Aang abuse her. She's an emotionless rock characterized by Girlboss and Violence and Not Like Other Girls
(Obligatory disclaimer that Aang would NOT be an abusive pos. Free my boy from the zks 😭)
Not to mention, just look at how many YEARS Toph spent letting her parents force her into the role of defenseless porcelain doll, even though that couldn't be further from who she is as a person. Again, almost like the whole reason abuse happens is because the abuser (knowingly or not) takes advantage of the victim's affection for them.
Zutarians once again showing they don't understand these characters, or how abuse works. They just want to both demonize Aang, and also give him a girlfriend to get him "out of the way" - which ironically enough just shows that they KNOW that as long as Aang is an option, Katara is interested.
Funny thing is.
Is the opposite.
Katara lashes out when feeling disrespected or betrayed, she actively does it constantly through the series and she is MEAN with it.
However because Toph acts more outwardly roudy and Katara acts more calm or reconciling, they think Katara is this always nice and self wallowing tortured princess and Toph is just the masculine female badass.
It is all so typical is downright laughable because it is not only cliche, it is cliche on the usual character tropes of "Baby First fictional literacy", when a character acts one way, and is the only way they can be seen as, baring into flanderization.
But hey, they call themselves the feminist ship
