Intertextuality enjoyers when a text refers to another text
There should be a word for the first listen of a new album that is perhaps not great, but good. It’s catchy, carries pathos, is mood modifying. It’s destined to hasten you out the door or score your next cab ride as you cross the bridge. It prompts texts after last call. It resuscitates teenage residue and threatens emotional relapse. An album that, upon first listen, discovers a new, hallucinatory wilderness: a pink desert, pewter trees, emerald skies, clouds that sprint by.
- too much and not in the mood
In postcards, I’ll scribble “So blue!” because, what else? Or even when I hear a recording of Frank O’Hara recite “Having a Coke with You,” gleefully anticipating him sayingyoghurt, saying flu-o-rescent orange tulips.
- "too much and not in the mood"
"I argue that both self and intimacy depend upon a particular kind of memory. In the intimate conversation, one is aware of images from the past, particular episodes of one’s life which can, for many people, be visualised in an almost cinematic way. As one talks about a movie, its scenes are held in the eyes of the mind. In the same way, horse-riding and the particular tree are spoken about not in terms of facts, such as the varieties of suitable horses, but in a way which is derived from and involves the immediate sensory aliveness of past episodes in one’s life (for example, riding towards the moon on an empty plain; wandering in a forest as a child). An intimate conversation is associated with a heightened feeling of being ‘myself’."
"The heart of the world is blue."
177. Perhaps it is becoming clearer why I felt no romance when you told me that you carried my last letter with you, everywhere you went, for months on end, unopened. This may have served some purpose for you, but whatever it was, surely it bore little resemblance to mine. I never aimed to give you a talisman, an empty vessel to flood with whatever longing, dread, or sorrow happened to be the day’s mood. I wrote it because I had something to say to you.
Bluets.

Words by Marguerite Duras
Director Coralie Fargeat says of the heroine’s ordeal in Revenge:
Part of her dies, the part that defines her existence through the gaze of other people and through the male gaze. That was her way of existing, that was her way of getting attention, that was her way of getting love. When she almost dies, she has to get rid of this because this is what gave the men the sensation that they could do everything they want with her. She has to recreate a new self within the same body.
(Fargeat, 2021)
