Okay, before my days get hijacked again or I end up forgetting, @silverstone2025 asked me for the Charlotte POV one

I really meant to have a scene fully written for this by now. I had it in my brain, now it's gone and somehow my mind want to focus on everything, but not this particular idea right now. The moment it comes back to me or I figure out a new way, I'll post it.

But essentially, the idea was 'what if Carlando went at the same day' and told from Charlotte's POV, her being kind of nostalgic because those are her boys and she misses them and their very own brand of ridiculousness so much. At the same time, she is endlessly grateful she is no longer the one who has to wrangle them and drag them to media duties by the ear or stop them from saying stuff they shouldn't.

And her noticing all the ways the two of them haven't changed and the ones where they have.

And, even though I haven't been able to focus on this, my brain did decide to pose the question of 'what if we stick to reality?' so Carlando attending on two different days and spending some time with Charlotte like that. And she just finds it cute how they try to pretend they aren' more to each other while she catches them texting each other every moment they manage to get away from people and cameras. (This would maybe also include a bit from either Carlos' or Lando's pov, of them trying to figure out who gets to go saturday or sunday)

@ehcahache now you made me think about some kind of magic au where they can summon their spirit animals (if they are talented enough) for protection or whatever else. And you always share some feature with your spirit animal. For Lando it's the glowing eyes.

As practical as it is to summon your personal protector, the more you do, the more the line starts to blur and that animal part of your soul starts to grow, gain strength and slowly take over. To the point you start to fight like them and less like a mage.

Lando’s been on the run, all by himself for so long. He barely clings to his humanity anymore. He tries to. But it gets hard. The more blood he tastes, the less he remembers how it used to make him gag just to see or smell it.

Lando got a new camera, again. Of course he now needs to figure all the settings and stuff out. And how to better do that than to ask his boyfriend to pose for him.

In his defence, he didn’t plan for Carlos to be naked. But Carlos got bored while Lando was fiddling with the camera settings and just got undressed, shocking Lando into speechlessness.

Much to Carlos amusement (and slight annoyance) Lando keeps taking pictures till the sun is fully down and even then takes a few with a couple more shits with different light from the various lamps in the hotel room.

Carlos has to hook his finger in Lando's necklace, prying the camera out of his hands and pulling him on top of him. Trapping him there with his legs.

As an RPF writer, I agree with everything everyone has said that it’s our responsibility to do what we can to minimize the chances of people seeing it. We put a lot of trust in readers to act accordingly, but we still share it. We still post our visions of these people and their inner thoughts on real life events, how we imagine they’d react to completely new scenarios, or having sex with an unnamed reader or each other. We give them embarrassing faults and flaws and make them do things that the real life version of themselves would never actually do, and we post that onto the internet. That’s weird and uncomfortable, if you think about it for more than a second.

Now, I’m also not saying that anyone should stop, or that it's morally wrong. I love writing RPF and the community I’ve found around it, and I really don’t think I could go back to a fiction-based fandom and have it hit the same as this does. I won’t be stopping or censoring myself, and I hope no one else does, either.

We have to accept that there’s only so much we can do to keep it private. You can lock the fic and threaten to delete everything you’ve ever written if it gets out, and someone could see that threat, call your bluff, and post screenshots of the entire thing tagging the involved individuals. Just to be an asshole and see if you’d really delete it. Those aren’t the people who are going to care about fandom etiquette. It’s bad and terrible, and there’s absolutely nothing that can be done to protect against it other than not sharing your fics.

The etiquette reminders are great for people who care, and they will hopefully help in the immediate, but trolls and cruel people have always been here and have never cared.

The cat is already out of the bag in the greater F1 landscape. Teams, drivers, and journalists use ship names. Brands show locked fics to drivers for official promotional material. The damage is done, even if it’s been relatively harmless compared to other fandoms.

With that, I think there’s some responsibility on the drivers to insulate themselves from what they don’t want to see. They aren’t children. They’re adult men with teams who run many aspects of their lives for them. They and their friends and family have a responsibility to curate their online experience just like we filter our own. I don’t know exactly how it works, and others can chime in if they do, but I would hope that they’re briefed and informed that there will be people writing fic about them, or shipping them with their friends, or whatever. I would hope that their private accounts have certain things filtered and blocked, and that their teams stay on top of the content their official accounts are tagged in and what is said in their comments. If people really were mentioning it in Oscar’s comments, it’s gone now. Someone took care of it.

I’m much less trusting (as in zero trust) of the teams and brands. They like RPF because it gets eyes on their product and brings new people in. EYE even got into F1 because I saw a tiktok edit and already knew that there was a robust fanfic community, so I’m proof.

I have a lot of peace knowing that many of us are fully capable of separating truth from fiction. I very cautiously dipped into the RPF side when I first joined the fandom because I was afraid I’d find Larry Stylinson 2.0, but that’s not at all what I’ve found here. When I see ship edits on tiktok, they mostly seem self aware/tongue in cheek. But there are a lot of new fans, and a lot of them are very young and don’t have the capacity to understand that line.

Add authors who are here more for the attention and the stats on top of that, and it’s a mess. I think it’s horrible that the author of that minecraft fic got death threats, and I’m not victim blaming or saying they only wrote for stats or attention. But it has to be said that not only did they not have their fic locked, but they were also seemingly fine with/not overly alarmed by the attention their fic was getting elsewhere, which leads to people thinking it’s okay to keep engaging with the conversation happening on twitter. They weren’t asking for their fic to blow up in the way it did, but they did little to stop it until it was too late.

I think what I’m trying to get at is that we have to approach this knowing that it’s risky, and we have to accept the risk. I’ll never fault a writer for pulling something down if it gets in the wrong hands. I don’t know what I’d do as a writer in that situation, either. Posting anything on the internet always runs a risk that someone who doesn’t like it will see it and tell you exactly how they feel about it, you, and your mother. That’s even more true when it’s something controversial that they can get on a high horse about and rally people behind them. We can take every precaution in the book, and there might still be an asshole who comes along and ruins it.

Assholes have always tried to ruin other people’s fun, and this is another example. Lock your fics, put in your disclaimers, set your comments to review, turn off anon asks, whatever makes you feel comfortable. But please don’t let the EXTREMELY unlikely potential for your fic to get in front of the person you wrote it about ruin your fun. Don’t let the puritanical people shaming you for thought crimes ruin your fun.

I very much agree.

And really, as much as I don’t want the people I write about to see the stuff I wrote, I am not too bothered about the idea of one of them finding a fic of mine on their own and reading it. If they want to, that is fully their business.

The thing I just honestly can't wrap my head around are fans who send fic links to them or their family. Like that is such insane behavior.

And it leads to celebrities taking really anti rpf stances (fully ignoring they'd probably have quiet a few fans less without it, I have an example in my head for this and without fic...well), which is just not the solution.

We really can do only so much and hope we and our wishes get respected.

But we can't control the actions of immature idiots. And sadly places like Twitter and TikTok are full of them.

Since I am on neither, I probably wouldn't even knke if my stuff ended up their (which is kinda an uncomfortable thought tbh).

I just hope humanity starts to grow brains again and we won't have to keep talking about fandom etiquette this much, because it won't be needed anymore.

I have been good and not said anything about this, because it should really just be a dress for a movie premier. But I have seen too many people say how she looks 'like Athena' there.

Now listen, Athena has her roots in multiple, older, deities. Some of which, like for example Inanna, the Sumerian Goddess or War (and other stuff, not relevant for this rn), had wings.

In proto european culture she (Athena) was probably mostly depicted as an owl.

But by the time we get to the Odyssey, the only wings Athena gets is when she transforms herself into an eagle. She no longer has wings attached as a humanoid goddess.

Even the cult of the 'Nike Athena', where the winged goddess of victory got combined with Athena, gets referenced as 'Wingless Victory', because the usually winged Nike, loses her wings when Athena gets mixed into things.

So, if we go with a Greek Goddess Zendaya may resemble here, it would be Nike. Nike without Athena.

And yes, someone might point out that there *are* vases with a winged Athena. But those are rare. And I can guarantee they are not why people nowadays think of Athena with wings.

Just because the owl is her animal, doesn't mean she has wings.

i saw a childhood pic of lando and he looked white and had straight blonde/brown hair but now he's a lot darker (i thought he was mixed when i first saw him) and his hair is curly but his parents are white so how did that happen (im not white is this skin&hair colour change normal as you grow up?)

hair color change extremely normal, especially blondes! i was bleach blonde until i was 6ish when it started to darken. hair texture can def change too for a variety of reasons. not as common but possible. as for him being tanner, i’m sure he’s always had the capacity to tan, he was simply raised england where the sun isn’t out as much and now lives in a sunny place and travels often to even sunnier places. thus, tan. and doesn’t wear sunscreen lol

I get that people don’t understand how curly hair work, but it is amusing to me how once every six months I find myself on this site explaining curls.

Anyways, my hair was always curly but my sisters hair was actually straight when we were kids. Mine got curlier over time and I now have a slightly different curl pattern than her, but my sisters hair went from pin straight to a 2a across her adolescence and I think that’s actually more common than my experience of having curls all along (even if I did fight them for years and straighten my hair or blow dry them out)

Sorry, but it's kind of hilarious to me whenever I see someone saying Lando's not white/they thought he's not white....

Like I get that certain skin types don't show change as much as pale skin does. But white people come in different shades and capacities to tan. Just like everyone else.

Both Valtteri Bottas and Carlos Sainz are white, I wouldn't say their skins look anything alike.

I know enough people who started out super pale and are now tan enough that I wonder if they have a secret home on a Greek Island where they spend all their time lying in the sun and they just never invited me there. And I know enough people (including myself) who could spend their hole lives in the sun and get barely anything/nothing to show for it other than a nasty sunburn.

RPF Etiquette

ok so I'm going to share some basic rpf etiquette rules for those who might be new to this

shipping content, no matter what kind (edits, fanart, fanfic, ship names), should NEVER be shared on platforms where the people involved have accounts. as a blanket rule, do not post or share shipping content outside of ao3 or tumblr.

respect artist's wishes. ao3 and tumblr is a general rule, but if the creator of a fic or a piece of artwork says "do not share this anywhere else", DON'T SHARE IT ANYWHERE. lots of authors have their preferences in the a/n of their fics, please read those.

if you know or are the person in an rpf work, do not engage with it. (this doesn't mean if you've met them once at a fan convention).

if you see people talking about rpf outside of fandom spaces, please encourage them to take down their post.

the children of the people you are writing about are off-limits. or any other minor family members. just in general, DO NOT CREATE RPF CONTENT ABOUT MINORS.

separation of church and state. rpf is fun, but it is not real life. you need to be able to tell the difference.

artists, authors, creators - they don't owe you anything. they are not getting paid to do this. please appreciate them and show them respect.

rpf is kinda like fight club. the first rule of rpf? don't talk about rpf.

So, I have 2 1/2 helmet ideas that I remember (I probably have more though...?)

1. Honestly, this one is soooo old at this point. Born from the slight obsession I have with helmet shots of especially Carlos (but also Lando). There is just something very very hot to me when all you can see of this man are his stupidly beautiful cow eyes (and his nose). And I am fully of the opinion that Lando would agree with me here. Carlos' eyes are definitely what Lando fell in love with first and he'd ask for Carlos to wear his helmet when they have sex. Lando is not afraid to ask for what he wants and share his kinks. Originally this was set in Silverstone 22 after Carlos got pole, but I have also changed it to Singapore 23 in a little experiment to try and maybe revive this idea again. Now I think Mexico 24 would also work rather well (and I really loved that helmet design).

2. Lando's gold championship helmet. He's not superstitious, so he shows it to Carlos when he had it made. *Carlos* is (slightly) superstitious and freaks out a little, doesn't want to fully jinx it (Lando laughs at him but thinks he's being very sweet). But it leaves Carlos with an idea nagging at the very back of his head. And idea he finally gets to act upon after Lando comes stumbling back to their room at 6 or 7 am after celebrating his championship all night. Lando is very on board with christening the helmet in bed before he takes it out on track. And it's always hot when Carlos is on a mission to rain praise down on Lando and all he's achieved, so Lando can never ever forget or start doubting himself again, because those memories are seared into his brain, burned into his skin, marking his soul.

Also just, Lando’s eye colour with the gold? I am weak, so Carlos is too.

The 1/2 idea is because I am indecisive if the helmet comes into play or not. Basically just Lando wanting to get fucked in his race overall, but never asking any hook up for it because he just knows they wouldn't *get it*. It's not because the overalls are hot to look at or anything, it's just that Lando sometimes feels like the he, the f1 driver and the he, the gay/bi/whatever he wants guy are two different people. And while yes, it is technically just a kink and he does simply find the idea hot, he also just wants to feel like he's one person rather than two who can't collide.

Carlos accidentally finds the overall one time, Lando panics because they are just friends and Carlos just wanted to borrow some clothes after their golf trip to crash at his because his flight was cancelled or something. Carlos doesn't even notice it's more than just a black overall Lando might use for karting. Only sees the opening when Lando snatches it away with a bright red face.

We all know Carlos can't let shit go, so he asks. At first he just assumes the fabric somehow managed to rip at Lando’s ass (an idea he yells at himself for finding hot, they are only friends after all, but well, Lando has too nice of an ass not to take note). Lando considers lying. But he doesn’t like lying to Carlos. And Carlos can tell more often than not anyway. Just like he could (and still mostly can) in their McLaren days. So he tells him. He doesn't expect Carlos' eyes to go black and telling him breathlessly to go get dressed.

So it def is the race suit. Probably also the balaclava. Maybe the helmet too, but I never got this far with this because my smut blockade started acting up again and all I tried to write just made me cringe in a bad way.

I wasn't happy with how GTG did the puzzle thing, some of those statements just were kinda insulting to some drivers or just made little sense. So I made my own. And then realised it wasn't bulletproof, so I made an better one, which hopefully only has one right way to solve it.
