a sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach stirs an almost nauseating effect as she observes the male. it was a peculiarity unfolding right before her eyes, the person she once thought to be her closest companion having become someone so distant. so painfully aloof. however, there is also a sense of relief that comes along with the realization that he looked much healthier than before. he hadn’t changed all that much in terms of physicality, of course, but the very last time she had seen him was when he was bedridden. it was an image etched incredibly clear in her mind that would haunt her almost everyday. “몇년만인데 제일 먼저 하는 말이 그거냐? 좀 섭섭하네.. 안부도 안 묻고,” she responds, forcing a smile to spread across her face while trying her hardest to maintain the lighthearted tone laced into her words. “그래도 좋아 보여서 다행이네.” 

the reappearance of an old flame results in palpitations. thud, thud. nervousness fills his tall stature. a dryness in his mouth brings about a loss of words. he clears his throat, and then directs his gaze elsewhere. anywhere that would bring him a sense of relief. ❝ 너는.. ❞ FINE. after everything that they’ve been through, she still possessed the ability to talk to him as though none of it had occurred. he feels sick, and he’s sure that if he tried to move from that spot, his knees would buckle. he stands still, and comes across rather stiff. ❝ .. 똑같네, 늘 그랬듯이. ❞

i know you said you weren’t expecting anything, but… i couldn’t just let another year pass without properly wishing you a happy birthday. the blue hair ribbon is beautiful, i’ll always wear it when i’m on the ice, whether it matches my outfit or not. ㅋㅋ the gifts aren’t much, but i hope you’re able to make use of them. i realized just how much there is to learn about you while i was trying to pick out gifts.. weird, isn’t it? the person i’ve known for the longest time is the person i have the most to learn about. i hope that’s precisely what i do the coming year, though. maybe then i’ll be confident that i only have gifts you’ll love. anyways, the more i drag it out, the more your expectations will grow. ㅎㅎ i’ll stop writing. happy (sort of belated) birthday, and merry christmas. no refunds, okay? ㅋㅋ
