it's thunderstorming today~ i like storms. i learnt today that japanese months are actually very simple, and i dont have to spend tons of time memorising the names of the months

march 5: What are your favourite shows? Is there anything specific you like about them?

i like fruits basket, and all of us are dead. they are just very nice watches, highly recommend both! i found fb to be relatable and it was very comforting, and aouad is just very suspensful and fun (and a bit scary...) to watch

5th march: what are your favourite shows? is there anything specific you like about them? my favourite anime are haikyuu, zankyou no terror, death note, hanasaku no iroha, sailor moon, and ao haru ride…my favourite shows are hirugao, i hear your voice, lost, my mister and so many more i can’t remember rn… i like depressing shows but also uplifting and motivational shows too. anything with depth and relatable plot/characters~ with good art/aesthetics

during my week off work i have been trying to study outside my house to change my environment. i haven't started my research with the motivation that i thought i was going to have but hopefully i will make a lot of progress this weekend. also today i went to buy some flowers to the market and design my first flower arrangement, it's as cute as i imagined haha so i will buy more flowers tomorrow to give it a pop of color. in love with Adrienne Rich at the moment.

I spent the last part of this evening working on a networks assignment after the assignment for my cybersecurity lab melted my brain (oh, self-modifing code, how you confuse me so…). today kind of went by in a blur, so I’m making sure to take care of myself tonight! 05.11.20 | Good news! One of my poems was accepted to a literary magazine! I’m super excited that other people like my work, but part of me is kind of scared to publish my name with it, especially as I feel like the poem is a little soulless compared to the short essays I’m more comfortable with... any advice?

(note: these are all terms i’ve encountered in various places, but there may be regional differences i haven’t accounted for or terms i don’t know of - if you have vocab to add to this, i would love to know!)

GENERAL

lesbian (formal): 女同性戀 ( nǚ tóng xìng liàn ) / 蕾丝边 ( lěi sī biān ）

the first literally means “female same-sex love/romance”; the second is a direct transliteration from the english

lesbian (informal): 女同志 ( nǚ tóng zhì )

literally means “female comrade”, based on phonetic similarity to the formal term

coming out: 出柜 ( chū guì ), lit. “leaving the closet”

gay pride: 同性恋骄傲 ( tóng xìng liàn jiāo ào )

lesbian day of visibility: 女同志现身日 ( nǚ tóngzhì xiàn shēn rì )

sappho: 莎孚 ( shā fú )

RELATIONSHIPS

girlfriend: 女朋友 ( nǚ péng yǒu )

lover/partner (gender neutral): 爱人 ( ài rén )

wife (formal): 妻子 ( qī zǐ )

wife (informal): 太太 ( tài tài ) / 老婆 ( lǎo pó ) / 媳妇 ( xí fù )

same-sex marriage: 同性婚姻  ( tóng xìng hūn yīn )

SLANG

lesbian: 拉子 ( lāzi ) / 拉拉 ( lālā )

abbreviations of the transliteration of the english “lesbian”. there are many more slang terms, but these are the ones i have seen used most often.

gay bar: G吧 ( G bā )

butch: T (“铁T” (tiě T) refers to a stone butch)

stands for “tomboy”

femme/lipstick lesbian: P

stands for “pó”, as in lǎo pó 老婆, meaning wife

“futch” / a lesbian who is neither butch nor femme: H

stands for “half”, someone who could ‘play for both teams’

butch/femme: TP

butch4butch: TTL, stands for “TT Love”

femme4femme: PPL, stands for “PP Love”
