Woodstock hike today: 5 miles, 80 floors, and a few injuries.
Ok but this is my handsome man
Our 4 night AirBnB for our weekend in Cape Town. It’s so nice!! Will definitely take some inspiration for my future home
Me and Juliana have been working out most days together, and we have a whole “squat goals” group to coordinate our gym times.
Watching Bang Bang Club while writing our Robben Island paper, then writing our Bang Bang Club paper right after. We had 0 assignments due the first two weeks, and then 3 papers due all in one day. Why???!!!
Our very rocky trip to Robben Island.
Lunch in between classes! Sooo yummy. They’re so generous with their avocados 💚
There was an international food festival held at Academia Hall right outside our dorm, and it was 10 rand a bowl. 14 rand = 1 USD.
In order: Madagascar, Belgium, Ghana, and Mauritius
We all got gym memberships for two months, and have surprisingly been very committed to going every day. I’m definitely coming back to Chicago healthier and fitter. Already making progress!
My open pastrami sandwich was only $5! How???
Concordia, our dorm, hosted a cute braai for us. We had to sign in for drinks and got free food. The mashed potato looking thing is actually ground corn. It was bring your own plate and utensils! We love being environmentally conscious (rugby game drinks are given in plastic cups to return).
Gordon’s Bay, where we had a pit stop before heading to the healthcare clinics to learn about their healthcare systems.
Our study abroad group at the university rugby game, cheering for the Stellenbosch Maties. Rugby players really need to wear helmets.
Front row entertainment at Camps Bay!
I felt compelled to donate since they were right in front of me AND I recorded them, but I’m also uncertain whether they were willfully doing this or what else was going on behind the scenes. Unsure, but a wonderful performance nonetheless.
Tour around Stellenbosch!
Every Saturday, hundreds of people gather to run in the Park Run 5k. For some reason, we were also forced to do it! This has to be what motivated me to get my health and wellness together during study abroad. Everyone here is so fit, that it makes me feel out of the loop as well as inspired. I was also pretty impressed that I could run the 5k at all. I have not run in months. Also I ran with Ashley, who is an ex cross country student athlete at Northwestern. She was injured. I was just slow. But I still felt cool!
Post-5k, there’s a food market where you can get foods from all over. Favorite item? Fried sun dried tomato basil mac n cheese balls. I’m honestly just going to restaurants and taking pictures of menus now so I can go back to America and recreate them.
Also, just as a reminder: I have no idea if I’m posting in the right order of events! I’ve been so busy and not prioritizing this blog at all, but it’s time I share my adventures. I’ll start blogging for real soon, and then everything will be in order. And more interesting, because I can actually remember things that happened.
