There are a million people out there who would say ‘Follow your passion’. All great. Most of you may question how to follow it. You take steps to follow it. But, what if your passion changes? How do you know for sure you’ll cling to it?
I will tell you 3 things on people who wonder what to do. I have lived in many places and talked to many people. I have heard the success stories and the failure stories too. And, I have had my own experience.
Everyone has an ambition in school. The ones they write in the notebook. Is that what you would love to do now? Is that the career you desire?
Most of the guys in my class said they wanted to be a pilot one day. Why didn't they become? That's not the question I intend to answer.
I am asking you, 'Why did you want to become a pilot?'
Our passion depends upon what we perceive. If we had a good Mathematics teacher, we wanted to be a professor of Mathematics. Our ambition changes, depending on who comes into our lives. You don't have any inbuilt talent and all. You build it because you are interested in it.
If your interests aren't inherited or gifted, aren't they likely to change one day?
My ambitions have changed from Computer Science to English, to Robotics, to teaching and finally to coding. It changes. We evolve. Change is inevitable, and that is a good sign.
Before choosing your career, think. People in the 21st century have a lot of options, so switching careers is like switching TV channels.
It is that simple and easy. Here are 3 things you could do:
1: Be in the best place when you start. Don't lose hope too fast.
Don't start small. Start big. Be in a reputed company, because this will show your interest in the domain.
2: Do small tasks. Be happy when you get it right.
Even if it is a simple task, do it full heartedly. Work till you get it right. Above all, self-appreciation is the key.
3: Talk to people who have switched careers. If you want to change yours, try being an intern first.
This tip is a top recommended one. Sometimes, whatever you do, you aren't satisfied. At that point in time, you must have realized what you love doing in your life, the 'passion'. Try imitating to be in that position for a day.
For example, if you wanted to be a fashion designer, try being that for a week. Weigh the pros and cons of both jobs.
