It is lightly cross-linked silicone polymer that can bounce, break and flow. Trinity College Dublin researchers working with the National Graphene Institute at the Manchester University have combined graphene with Silly Putty, polysilicon toy, to create very sensitive slectrochemical sensors. By the new sensors, they serve several properties such as electrical conductivity, sensitive to deformation and impact, inexpensive, applicable in healthcare and other sectors. When the mix of graphene and Silly Putty was placed onto human chest and neck, the G-Putty could monitor breathing, pulse and blood pressure. This was due to addition of graphene resulting electrical conductance in silly putty toys. Electrical conductivity of the composite material is very sensitive to deformation being hundreds of times more sensitive than current sensors resulting from slightest impact or strain. Graphene mixed putty was also tested successfully for detection of small spiders’ footsteps. Therefore, it was believed that this kind of material will be applied in many medical devices or others when the very sensitive impact sensors are needed. Following video shows how the graphene-silly putty sensor measures pulse: For more information: http://www.nature.com/news/graphene-spiked-silly-putty-picks-up-human-pulse-1.21133
A Silicon Carbide Lollipop
Image retrieved from: http://www.materialstoday.com/carbon/articles/s1369702115000218/
Silicon Carbide is an inorganic material and non-oxide ceramics. Many of researches have been performed and continue for Silicon Carbide ceramic material due to having a range of properties for the advanced technological applications. Besides of chemical stability, thermal stability and thermal shock resistance of Silicon Carbide, mechanical properties such as hardness and wear resistance are excellent for many engineering purposes like filter and catalyst supports for elevated temperatures, seal pumps for automotive water pumps, heat exchangers, bearing and abrasion resistant components or composite materials in armor protection. Silicon Carbide usage in medicine is also important due to biocompatibility feature of Silicon Carbide. Therefore, Silicon Carbide has already been used in myocardial heart probes, bone prosthetics and coronary heart stents.
Most of these applications, light weight, stiff and strong porous structure of Silicon Carbide are needed. One way to obtain light weight material is producing porous regions in the lattice which may lead to decrease in mechanical properties of products. A group of researchers in the Center for Advanced Structural Ceramics of United Kingdom studied two different processes based on water suspension and sintering techniques to obtain ultra-light SiC. They built strong, light weight SiC porous structure like as lollipop seen in SEM image. They said that Silicon Carbide with highly porous scaffolds can be used in thermal management, filter and catalyst supports designed to work at elevated temperatures or as ceramic reinforcement in the production of composites.

No friction with the help of GRAPHENE!
http://nanografi.com/blog/no-friction-with-the-help-of-graphene/
It was known that diamonds are already one of the hardest natural substances. But if diamoınd combine with graphene, nanoparticles can be slippery and it can be useful if you want to reduce friction in a moving machine. Scientist showed that the combination of tiny bits of diamond and graphene that had superlubricity. This means that the friction between them and another object dropped to near zero.
Reducing friction, or making things more slippery could have benefits beyond just making it easier for objects to move around. For example "nearly one-third of a vehicle's fuel energy is spent on overcoming engine, transmission, and tire friction." Reduce the friction, reduce the amount of fuel used.
Diamond nanoparticles contact with the thin sheets of graphene and the graphene rolled up around the diamond nanoparticles, creating scroll or ball like structures. This specific structure makes the superlubricity possible right now, but researchers hope that they can expand the property to other materials in the future.
Scientist stated that the knowledge gained from this study will be important in finding ways to reduce friction in everything from engines or turbines to computer hard disks and microelectromechanical systems.

“Slice” or “Substrate”, in other words WAFER!
A wafer, also called a slice or substrate. It is actually a thin piece of semiconductor material, such as a crystalline silicon. It is mostly used in electronics for the fabrication of integrated circuits and in photovoltaics for conventional, wafer-based solar cells. The wafer serves as the substrate for microelectronic devices. Today silicon chips are everywhere. Some microfabrication process step like doping or ion implantation, etching, deposition of various materials, and photolithographic patterning are applied. . Finally the individual microcircuits are separated (dicing) and packaged.
Wafers are formed of highly pure (99.9999999% purity), nearly defect-free single crystalline material. Ultrabook devices, smartphones, tablets, high performance computing, data centers included this material. Engineers automate factories and are embedded in automobiles and everyday devices. The most sophisticated processor can contain hundreds of millions or billions of transistors interconnected by fine wires made of copper. Each of these transistors acts as an on/off switch, controlling the flow of electricity through the chip to send, receive, and process information. Wafers today may have multiple cores.

Carbon Nanotube Threads
Since its discovery, carbon nanotube (CNT) has attracted many interests in different technology fields due to its extraordinary properties. Properties such as, high strength, great electrical and thermal conductivity, light weight and flexibility made CNT one of the best materials for wide range of applications. However, from its name it can be understood that CNT is a nanoscale material which is very small to be applied for the production of daily products. Researchers all around the world are working on finding methods and techniques which could produce new materials with the extraordinary properties of CNT.
One of these research is focusing on the production of high strength threads that can be used in the manufacturing of fabrics, cables and ropes. An international group of scientists were able to produce a flexible conductive thread that is a quarter of the thickness of human hair. The produced threads are ten times the tensile strength of steel yet are highly flexible with high electrical and thermal conductivity. The technique followed in the study was based on the spinning out of the CNT fibers from chlorosulfonic acid solution.
Carbon Nanotube is only way to turn your big dream into reality!
For the last decade, engineers and scientists have tried to use the unique properties of carbon nanotubes to create high-performance electronics devices that are faster or energetically more efficient. That means longer battery life and higher speed of electronic devices such as laptops, smartphones.
Until now, silicon and gallium arsenide used in computer chips and personal electronics. Engineers from University of Wisconsin-Madison material science achieved current that's 1.9 times higher than silicon transistors.
Michael Arnold who is head of this research team, said that "This achievement has been a dream of nanotechnology for the last 20 years,". Also he claimed that carbon nanotube transistors that are better than silicon transistors is a big milestone.
As to extrapolations from single nanotube measurements, carbon nanotube transistors should be able to perform five times faster or use five times less energy than silicon transistors. Thanks to carbon nanotube's ultra-small dimension, it is possible to rapidly change a current signal traveling across it. This process is very important for wireless communications devices.
