Is the player character of Nanosteam going to be voiced ala Mass Effect and Fallout 4, or is dialogue in text only akin to many RPGs?
Closer to Zelda style if anything. Breath of the Wild especially.
So, I know that there's a ton of trains in the game, and I'm pretty sure that I already know the answer to this one, but will there be train-themed weapons in Nanosteam?
That’d be a spoiler. And saying that is also a spoiler.
I'm not sure if anyone's asked yet, but will there be any sort of companion system in the game?
Yes! You have 13.5 companions, as well as temporary party members, evolving relationships, multiple places to store them, each one has their own sidequest, and they can be commanded and tacticaliszed.
Will there be ducks in the game?
Well look at you wanting late-game spoilers. Bad anon!
So will the mysteries of nanosteam's universe such as the nature of the doomsmiths, what caused the rearrange, who Tarzan and Ioncross really were, and the trains' true plans for humanity be revealed to the player through the main quest, side quests, or subtle clues that are easily missed by idiots? or are those going to be left intentionally mysterious and irrelevant to the plot?
Yes. I mean, it’s not a singular choice, we can have all three.
A couple questions, first, will you put out an early access version soon (or whenever the game gets to a decent enough state), on Steam Greenlight or somewhere else? Also, will the game be finished by the time that Donald Trump's presidency term is over (2020), or have some sort of demo out by then?
Steam Greenlight?
Oh you poor soul, Steam Greenlight died alongside the Borealis.
And we won’t do early access. A demo yes, but no early access.
So I saw that you could start a corporation and destroy others. I also read that the govt is more behind the scenes and not thought about so it probably wouldn't apply, but what about religion? It's a big part of culture, so will we be able to do anything with that? Also, I saw that the player had an advanced AI, so are we robots, or is technology advanced to the point we are 'upgrading' humans in a sense?
For the first question: starting a religion wouldn’t really be something the player can do, at least not in the traditional sense. Could they be worshipped? Well, yes. The player, if they play their cards right, is a celebrity after all. Otherwise they’d just be starting a cult, and I doubt any adventurer would want to start a cult when they often spend so much time gunning them down.
As for CHAD, the player’s interface and annoying voice-in-their-head, they’re a bit special. Suffice to say transhumanism is not the norm, and even having a connection like the player’s is something extremely rare, as the devices to allow it are limited in number, and irreplaceable and irreplicable.
What have you even been doing? You've been dead.
Real life is a harsh mistress, the kind that wears the kind of leather your parents have in their closet that they think you don’t know about.
There has been progress made though. Weather has been added (along with the glory of dynamic timezones, which can really FUCK perception up), and I was looking over just how to get dialogue to work in a format that can be easily modified.
The thing I’m picking through now is a name generation system. I liked it in Freelancer, so generic enemies can pull from a list of titles and designations so each individual you fight has its own “unique” name.
On a scale of 1 to 12, with 1 being a single gear and 12 being a literal fucking junction, how many trains would you say that Nanosteam includes? Like, I'm hyped for the game already, but I've gotta know how many trains we're talking.
I mean if 12 is only a junction, then Nanosteam is like a 50. It is a world and story focused heavily on industry and the building of civilizations after all, you can’t not do something like that and not have trains involved. Trains are as essential to such things as a metaphor is to another appropriate metaphor.
Will my intel family graphics card be able to handle this game?
Only a true gamer would be able to handle Nanosteam’s intense polygons and 16k textures.
Is Nanosteam still gonna be worked on still, now that Trainwiz is with Bethesda?
Contract work is not the same as full employed work. There’s no non-compete clause, which would be odd anyway given that Nanosteam and Bethesda are workulated in two entirely different toolsets and languages!
What kind of style of music are you looking for in Nanosteam? Will it be like your "soundtrack" style of music or something completely different?
You’ve heard snippets of it in the videos. Sort of ambient electronic, some orchestral bits. If you think Metroid Prime’s soundtrack you’d be on the right soundtrack.
Will there be spaceship combat?
Ohhhhh yes.
The oh-so very basics of dialogue are dialogued. It’s not impressive, it’s more proof of concept and getting the basics integrated (talking to a non-hostile NPC allows you to go through a conversation), and making sure its modular enough that it can be easily improved upon.
The barrels triumphantly return! As does AI! Not pictured: Weird bullet behavior that will be corrected.
Is there crafting/weapon modification in Nanosteam?
Yes. It’s fairly in depth too. I know EVERY FUCKING GAME out there these days has to have crafting, but in Nanosteam it’s actually appropriate, given that engineering, craftsmen, forges, blacksmiths, etc, are pretty much ultra-integral to the setting. Be kind of ridiculous if we didn’t let the player get some of that sweet forgelord action wouldn’t it?
I’ll have crafting up and running hopefully soon (it’s not too far down the to-do list), and that’ll be fun.
