“Little old you? Is it because of the botox jokes? Cause you know I meant Julian, right?” Of course. Most of his jokes regarding Mme Governor (if that title was even a thing that made sense) revolved on how someone so clever shouldn’t be allowed to also be successful and beautiful and a delight to be around. His hypothesis: she had a dark secret to hide. Hypothesis² : Naomi was actually born in Jersey. Now you had to compensate for that.
“Anyhow, your kids are lovely, and I take back what I said about you being a delight. You’re rude, Naomi Berkeley,” leaning back into his chair, he laughs as she mentions Jessica Chastain. “One day, Inchallah,” his smile broadens, “would I have more luck stealing you away from our dear governor? C’mon, the kids already seem to love me.” Beat. “Are we ordering drinks first, or do you need to work after this?”

“Does that mean you’re saving better material for me? The botox and crest whitening strips jokes are starting to appear, dare I say, lazy? I’m feeling insulted you aren’t conjuring up better jokes to scorch Julian - you could also go for the suits, you know; David’s obsessed with their color always matching the season.” All was meant in her own form of jest - with the suit comment being nothing more and nothing less, than a fact. “Can’t I be a delight and wonderfully rude? I think you would have dumped me as a friend long ago, if I didn’t keep you on your toes - like that guy who used to follow you around. Steve? James? He was too nice, and you dropped him.” Their name might have been Mike, but Naomi wasn’t in the business of knowing the names of people from a distant past. “I’ll end up with with whichever of you can grow about two more inches. The kids do love you, bad influence and all - but if I agree to drinks, will anything drunk I say be later used against me? Or better yet; if I get drunk enough and perform my standup, will you let me on the show?”
