Doctor’s Notes #486: Recap
77 Season of the Colossus 1328 AE.
It’s been quite some time since I’ve recorded my thoughts other than for work. I suppose it’d be best for me to begin doing so again after receiving the news last night. I’ll begin with the results of my trial with the Council and work my way forward with the main events that’s happened, I’ll try and remember them all.
The trial, of course, went well. Otherwise I’d likely be dead already. My witnesses Jak, Bluetavius, Regana, and Uriendir were asked to give statements about my character and history. Master Blue and Miss Regana gave honest answers to their questions, which I appreciate greatly, saying that they did think I would do it again, but only in the most dire of circumstances. Jak was called to testify, but was turned away shortly into her statement due to her being my romantic partner.
Then there was Master Uriendir. He began reminding the Council of my failures during my youth. He recollected how I couldn’t get a simple golem to work, and claimed that it was a miracle I made it this far in the medical field. He has since explained to me why he did that, to make the Council believe that I’m too incompetent to injure a tengu tribe, but the seeds of doubt were firmly planted in my mind with his testimony.
The Council decided that a trial by combat would be the most efficient way to determine my fate. They allowed me the opportunity to choose a champion to fight in my stead, to which I reluctantly chose Miss Regana, The Pale Guardians’ Knight leader. I’m told that it was an easy victory for her, which I a good thing I suppose. With that, it was time to take a much needed vacation to mine and Jak’s home in Divinity.
About half a season later, the Guardians were finally ready to move out to the Jungle. I wasn’t ready, of course, but Jak was going with me, which calmed my nerves quite a bit. Luckily I had already finished my sword training with Miss Regana. We were able to camp with a local itzel tribe to the north for a few days, exchanging medical supplies and protection for room and board. They really needed those supplies too due to a rather large wyvern constantly setting things on fire.
On our second day with the Itzel I received a call on my clinic communicator from Aasher, my friend within the Inquest. He asked me if we had a steady camp established to which he could send the equipment he made for us. He seemed upset that we still hadn’t gotten a foothold yet, but understood our difficulties.
A rather large canyon was discovered to the northwest, perfect for a forward operating base. The only problem was that it was filled to the brim with Mordrem. After several hours of fighting, we were finally able to clear the canyon of the poor creatures and set of a base. I was even able to establish a semi-permanent location for a clinic within the ruins of the canyon.
About four weeks later, things got strange. Master Uriender had been burned to death by someone back at the Inn. I’m not going to get too far into it because I still don’t understand fully what happened, but he came back to life somehow. Though he now has to obey three orders given to him. The first was to capture Jak and take her somewhere. The other two have yet to be given.
A couple of nights ago, Jak and I were enjoying some time alone after quite some time of not being able to do so. After I... tended to her, her alternate personality, Jaklyn, came out. After our last encounter when Carus sealed her away in the back of Jak’s mind, she wasn’t particularly thrilled to see me. A spat in her face making her dig her nails into my left ear, the one that has been aching for a while now, and jerked me off of the bed we were on. The jerking motion caused her nails to leave a large gash in the ear, and my face fell to the floor leaving my bottom lip split open. I’d rather not get further into it than that.
About two weeks ago Master Uriendir decided to join the Guardians as a mender. His decision came as a surprise to me, though he stated that it was simply to relieve the stress of having only myself and Master Rildaan as a mender at the time. Of course, he hasn’t done anything of the sort, if anything he’s causing more stress. He punched Eidolen and Miss Deib’s adopted son in the jaw because he lost his temper regarding a couple of saplings that wondered into camp. I’m the one who approved him to enter our order, how did he think that would positively impact anything? I’m surprised Eidolen hasn’t lost what little cool he has and came to strangle me for letting him in yet.
The saplings that I mentioned in the last paragraph, Glyn and Chernika, are a curious couple. They’re pod twins who insist on licking everything they see. Everything. Even people. I even saw them licking Uriendir’s bloom, the thing on the back of his head that acts as an incredibly sensitive erogenous zone. They took my communicator, licked it, then started running around the canyon with it.
A few days later a sylvari named Titania, a beautifully colored individual, joined our order. She stopped by the clinic while she was looking around, which is when she decided to join the menders. She actually knows both magical AND traditional healing. Thank the gods. She even knows how to stitch properly with minimal pain to the patient. Naturally, Uriendir didn’t care much for my decision to accept her in. Apparently the two share a long history together, but I really don’t care. Now isn’t the time to be letting petty preferences cloud our judgement.
I tried talking to Uriendir about promoting him from Initiate to Medic, but he claimed that he didn’t care about rank or chain of command. First he punches our leaders’ son, takes the saplings to the Wayrest against Eidolen’s orders, now it feels like he has little desire to even listen to what I have to say on his position as a mender. Perhaps this is just a reflection of my leadership skills. Master Rildaan had been in the order longer than I have, trained by Miss Deib as a mender before she gave me her radiant position. Since then we really haven’t had many menders come in. Perhaps Uriendir’s statement of me back at the trial was simply him speaking the truth, rather than a false testimony.
Aasher’s krewe came by the canyon a few days ago to drop off the medical equipment. Now the canyon’s clinic is as well stocked as an emergency care clinic. High-end equipment, high grade medications, and even a surveillance device that feeds video straight into my datapad.
((The handwriting becomes shaky, as if the writer is nervous.))
While Aasher was here, I had him examine an ear ache that I’ve been having in my left ear for quite some time, causing me to become short with people. Well, shorter due to my height. That was a short joke. He told me that I have squamous cell carcinoma of the ear. He said that it’s easily treatable, but I’m just beyond the early stages of it. Meaning that if it can be removed, there is about a forty percent to fifty percent chance of it coming back anywhere from a few season to a whole year from now. He also mentioned that it has a sixty-two percent survival rate in later stages, which is good I suppose. Being just beyond the early stages means that my chances are a bit higher, I guess.
Gods, what am I going to tell Jak? Should I even tell her? How would she react? What about the Guardians? If they found out, would they force me to leave? Gods dammit. I need to talk to Aasher about treatment options. Surely his krewe has some kind of experimental treatments available.
