Amidst masks, travel restrictions and new variants, went to see The Nutcracker with my son last night. The show was amazing, the live orchestra ( my favorite part) mesmerizing, the lights outside breathtaking — but what touched my soul the most was watching this staff worker and little girl. Her family was nearby, but in deep conversation and the little girl and this man talked extensively, she repeatedly showed him her ballet moves, walked with things on her head to prove her balance to him. I felt this little girl’s open wonderment and excitement about the ballet and her future. I couldn’t hear it all , but enough to know he encouraged her dreams and truly engaged with her. And as people started lining up , he kept an eye out on her and did his job at the same time. There are still good people out there. We are moving towards conversations with strangers , social events, compassion, magic , love. Thank you, Nutcracker.
