Nepenthes

I've been thinking about creating a new header for my site for some time now, and started working on some type. Here's one of the letters. I should at least aim to finish this before the end of 2016

Hibiscus

What started out as a painting that went a bit wrong ended up being a mixture of digital, gouache and inks - I refined the image in photoshop and tried to keep most of the original texture and colours. The flowers themselves are based on a photograph I took a while back whilst on holiday in Long Beach where there are hibiscus flowers growing outside along pavements, by the park and like these ones which were at the end of my dads road.

Nepenthes

Finally finished the nepenthes illustration - this took me long enough if only to make the decisions for the final touches, I posted some development shots earlier in my tumblr feed. I’m not completely sold on the wallpaper as the plant stands out better alone but I enjoy creating repeat patterns so I thought why not, at least for my tumblr anyway - so here it is with the background pattern! 

The nepenthes plant itself is based on a photo I took during a trip to Kew Gardens - which provided some great reference material!

Banana Milkshake

Something that started out as quick drawing in my sketchbook that I thought would make a pretty neat digital illustration - a Milkshake just so happens to be one of my favourite things and banana is by far the best flavour. Plus putting it into photoshop provided a good excuse to play around with the blending options and satins (and make sure I don’t get rusty)
