Ooc my laptop actually died on me tonight. I hope I can get it fixed within a week

“So I can take my clothes off in front of girls, but not boys? What if I don’t want to have sex with girls? And who made up the rule that I can only take my clothes off in front of guys I’m gonna have sex with? I can’t just do it whenever I want?”

“No, no, you don’t have to have sex with the girls. It’s just that... well, it’s okay to take off your clothes in front of people of the same gender... but not if you like happen to just be in a room with all girls, don’t take off your clothes. Just in general, don’t take off your clothes in public.” He rubbed his face, this was definitely harder to explain than he thought, it was like she found loopholes in every thing he said. “Our bodies are private, okay? We’re not supposed to show it unless we’re intimate with someone.”

Offering Nate her own hand, Care smiled, shaking his gently and gave a small nod of her head in response. “Nice to met you, Nate. My mom works at the police station, actually. You probably know her, Liz Forbes. Are you a police officer too?”

Nate chuckled softly. “Yeah, I know her, that’s exactly why I’ve heard of you before.” He shook his head. “Me? A police officer? No, no, look at me. I hardly look like a police officer,” he joked, gesturing to his skinny body. “I’m a forensic scientist, I’m the guy that gives your mother most of the answers when someone shows up dead.”

“I don’t think you’re too awkward so far. I mean, you’re doing just fine if you ask me. I’m Caroline, by the way. I think I’ve seen you around town before.”

Nate smiled a little. “Good, I guess. It’s a good thing, that I’m not being awkward.” He extended his hand to shake hers. “I’m Nate. I think I’ve seen you too and heard about you. I work in the police department,” he explained.

Malia looked confused when Nate stopped her and pulled the fabric of her shirt back down. The brunette could see the look on his face, like a truck had just hit him or something. “Well, there were no clothes in the woods, so if you did want them, it wouldn’t bother me.”

Nate shook his head slowly. “No, I don’t need your clothes,” he reiterated. He ran his hands through his hair, taking a deep breath and looking back at her, trying not to blush. “Let’s cover one very important lesson: you don’t take your clothes off in front of other people. Maybe in the lockers, in front of other girls, never in front of boys, unless you’re going to have sex with them.”

“Maybe they got scared or something. Why don’t you have much experience in outside activities? You don’t like them?”

“What? Outside activities? Uh, well, it’s not that I don’t like them per say, I just don’t do them much... I prefer being inside, I’m too white for the sun and too awkward for people.”

“You want my clothes?” she questioned as she started to lift the hem of her shirt, pretty much thinking to hell with that entire explanation. Malia hated these stupid rules and didn’t get why they had to exist in the first place. There were no rules in the woods, so why did there have to be any now? “You can have them.”

Nate chocked so hard on absolutely nothing, it seemed like he was dying. “No, no, no,” he quickly said, grabbing her shirt and pulling it back down, he could swear he almost had a heart attack just there. “I don’t want your clothes, no, I was just giving an example,” he tried explaining.

“Well, after the blackout, I don’t really blame them.”

“During the blackout it wasn’t surprising. Now the sun is out, birds are singing and all that jazz, shouldn’t people be outside? Doing whatever they do outside? I mean, I don’t have much experience in outside activities, I don’t really know what they should be doing.”

She listened to Nate while he spoke, pursing her lips to the side slightly. It must be incredibly natural to him, because he made it sound that way. Then again, he’d been used to that for a long time, unlike Malia, so of course it’d be normal for Nate. “So I don’t need to give you money for helping me?” she questioned before releasing a small breath. “I don’t get why I can’t just take what I want. It’s much easier that way.”

Nate sighed, shaking his head. “No, you don’t need to give me money, because you’re not taking anything material for me. For example, if you wanted my phone, you’d probably have to pay for it, but... you know, me helping you, you helping me, that’s just a trade of favors, you don’t need to pay for those.” He chuckled, rubbing his brow. “Because it’s not fair for other people if you just take their things. You wouldn’t want me to come up to you and like, steal your clothes... well, uh, I guess that’s not a great example,” he blushed a little, trying to wrap his head around what he was saying. “But you know, things that belong to you, you wouldn’t want me to take them from you, right?”

Malia squeezed her eyes shut as she felt Nate ruffling her hair with his hand, that same smile remaining on her lips. “Almost.” the brunette shrugged softly, opening her brown eyes back up after another moment. She knew she’d never be human and she definitely had a lot to learn about modern day life. Everything was pretty much foreign to her and she was really rusty with many things. “I mean, the guy at the store the other day definitely didn’t think so. He chased me with a broom, just because I took some stuff without giving him coins or those pieces of paper for them. Why do we need those anyway?”

Nate snorted, trying hard not to laugh. “Malia, c’mon, we covered this. It’s money, you need to pay for stuff. You can’t just take stuff from people. Think of it like a favor... I’m helping you with human interaction and life and you’re helping me with... well, you know... so, I’m giving you something and you give me something, so we’re even. It works like that with money, the guy from the store gives you what you want to buy and you give him money and with that money, he can get other stuff that he might need. Get it?” He bit his lip for a moment, looking at her, it was like explaining life to a child, but at the same time, he didn’t want to sound condescending to her.
