“A secret code might work. We just have to be inconspicuous about it. Wait until we’re in our dorms or something to start spreading the word.” Augustus liked parties that weren’t his father’s little balls. He wanted to have fun not wear dress robes, being chased around by the older clients that were there. A light chuckle left his lips at Nathan’s mocking. “Reading is a good habit, but so is getting into trouble. My father hates it whenever I hid papers or redecorate the office.”

Nat raised his eyebrow, “Here you are, practically an adult, and you still hid your fathers papers and cover his office in drawing that you personally drew.” His smile widened, “that is one of the most beautiful things that I have ever heard. You, Gus, are a beautiful individual.”

“When I’m awake, I have trouble navigating even at home. It’s probably why my brothers at over protective of me.” It wasn’t something that Cassia was fond of now that she was older. They couldn’t do that forever but she didn’t know how she could word that. The perks of being gentle and naive were aspects that held her back. “A couple of times, luckily I hadn’t strayed too far or else it would be a lot more worse. Crispin once mentioned that there was a barrier around the lake at night. I think it’s wise, especially if I’m not the only sleepwalker here.”

Nat nodded his head, it made sense that they would put wards around certain areas of the grounds, especially those that were dangerous to the students. “Well, I hope that you’ve been getting a good nights sleep despite the walking. Wouldn’t want to fall asleep in the middle of potions, or God forbid in the middle of an over active defense against the dark arts class.”

“Well, I’m not a professional but I’m okay I guess.” Crispin was really picky with what he drew. Especially when it came to how difficult it would be for him. “I mainly sketch and it can be difficult to get the shading right.” That was the most challenging part of his work. Crispin felt his cheeks warm up when Nathan sang about his face. It was true that he was a bit egotistical but he could taken off guard by the odd comment. “Thanks,” he managed in a whisper, loosing all chain of thought. He didn’t know what else to sing about.

Nat smiled as he waited for Crispsins’ next song lyric. He nudged the other boys head with his own, “Surely it’s not that hard to sing about me. I can give you ideas.”He raised his eyebrow, “or we can take a break? Yes. Let’s do that. We’ll resume the song in a few days time.”

Luna pondered the question for a moment before replying, “I think it’s Beauty and The Beast. I find it charming that the female character is set in her ways, and how she isn’t afraid to stand up for the people she believes in. Belle is the hero in a way, not the Beast. I like how it’s different from the traditional fairy tales.” 

“I never liked the Beast, I find him to be rude and borderline cruel, but he’s better than most fairy tale characters.” Nat loved fairy tales, he loved how they taught lessons and how people twisted them to fit into their own lives. “My favorite is Snow White. It’s quite complicated for such a simple story and it’s about as traditional as one can get.”

Luna smiled and then her cheeks colored as she replied, “You better be careful, Nat. You might give me reasons to fall for you.”

Nat grinned, his eyes widening a fraction. “I’m a lot of things, Luna, but careful is not one of them.” He replied, winking at the other student. He looked the blond Ravenclaw over, she was beautiful, no doubt about that, and he enjoyed spending time with her, so if feelings developed then he wouldn’t object. “Speaking of fairy tales, which one is you favorite?”

<p>“Most of the lessons were boring but there were some exceptions. Like when they brought in this professional football trainer.” Crispin couldn’t stop talking about the lessons for weeks. It made his father laugh whilst his mother tried her hardest to listen. “Plus there were the break times too, I’d normally wind up in the art room drawing or attempting to paint.” He rarely painted any more, despite having an esal set up his bedroom. Crispin nearly had a heart-attack when Nathan grabbed his hand. Gulping, he tried to concentrate on the silly little song. “Um, you you have amazing hair. It’s even better than mine,” he sang after clearing his throat.

“You draw? Are you any good?” Nat wasn’t very artistically inclined, something he regretted, but he loved it when his friends were. He liked to look at their art, read their writings, hear their music, and see what other things they have created. He smiled and bumped his head against Crispin’s face, “Your face is a marvel and humanity should be blessed to wake up to its glory,” he sang, voice going higher and higher.

“Then there’s how we’d get everyone there without getting caught. Like using some sort of parchment or something.” Augustus knew about Umbridge’s detentions, having been in one of them. Cursing in class and back-chatting her. Airing one’s opinion was something that a Ravenclaw would normally do. That was what Augustus did anyway. “Black holes? Yes, I remember reading something about him in the library. It was light reading on my part.”

“Parchment would work, or maybe a code word or phrase? Something really inconspicuous, like ‘time for the study group’.” Nat raised an eyebrow, “light reading?” He snorts, “Gus likes to do a bit of light reading on physics and black holes and time paradoxes.” He pretended to wiped away a tear, “never knew a braver man than Gus. He read the entirety of Hogwarts a History, including the Glossary and index, for fun.”

Nat agreed with Cassia, he knew that Umbridge would get what was coming to her, he just hoped that it was sooner rather than later. “I was at my grandparents house once and I saw an episode of a tv show where this guy would sleepwalk and eat at the same time. It was a comedy so obviously he did some extraordinary things, but he managed to walk around his suburb, order food from the local late night diner, and return home.” He explained while loading his plate with more biscuits, “can you do any of that? Or is it more of a walk around the room and run into objects kinda thing?” Cassia was the only person that Nat knew of who would sleepwalk and he found the entire thing fascinating.

“Hm, I’ve walked around the grounds too. I’m surprised the ghosts or the teachers didn’t try to lead me back to the dorms.” There again, there was the risk of waking her. Cassia didn’t mind talking about it to someone who wouldn’t make fun of it. Not like the Slytherins did the other day. “I once woke up in Hogsmeade one morning. I don’t know how I slipped out of the school. I must have gone through one of the passages to the village.”

Nat choked on his biscuit as he laughed, “Hogsmeade? That’s impressive. I can’t make my way there conscious and with a map half of the time.” Nat was horrible at directions and remembering things. He spent the first two months of his first year at Hogwarts learning the routs to all of his classes. He could actually remember crying when professor Binns had to change classrooms for a day and he had no idea where to go. He didn’t know where the library was until the second half of his second year. “Have you ever hurt yourself? Cause this sounds like dangerous stuff.” While he found it impressive that she could go great lengths in one night it also worried him. What if she wandered into the Great Lake?

“Ah,” he said, finally understanding.  “I can see how you would be reluctant to look for love.” Nat turned his attention to his feet, watching as they walked over grass and stones. He didn’t know what he would do if someone he loved was taken from him in such a way. He couldn’t imagine the pain of losing someone like that. “Do you think this will all be over soon?”

Luna smiled gently at her friend, “I do hope so. Perhaps then fairytales can exist again?”

“I don’t think that they ever stopped existing,” he said in a soft voice. “I think that the happy endings were pushed aside to make room for the original, gruesome endings.”

“Hm, Crispin said that to me before now. He’s worried I’ll dozed off in one of her classes. I’d rather have someone prod me awake to be honest.” Cassia giggled lightly at the other, “Whatever is the most fair is fine by me.” She genuinely didn’t mind because she had the feeling that she was right. Especially with the people who were about to receive a detention. Cassia stared at him for a few seconds before shrugging it off. “Nah, I’ll be fine besides I doubt I could get away with missing a lesson with the pink one. I have the feeling she doesn’t take well to these things. Plus, I’m sure she’s the kind who doesn’t like muggle borns or half bloods. Why must people be that way?”

Nat nodded, “right, ten galleons if I win, and four if you win.” He said with a teasing smile. “She’s a horrible troll of a woman who needs to take her horrid wardrobe and poof  to another galaxy,” he said, a frown appearing on his face. Everything about Umbridge annoyed Nat, her voice, her clothes, her devotion to the ministry, her “teaching” style, and especially her cruel tendencies. “She can shove her pure-blood supremacist views up her ass, or better yet, we can strap her down to a chair and let her squirm a she watches two half-bloods redecorate her office, wardrobe, and life.” there was one thing that Nat refused to tolerate and that was intolerance of other people. He didn’t care if someone didn’t agree with a particular race, religion, blood status, sexuality or anything else, they would not breath a foul word about it in front of him.

“Yeah, our muggle grandparents insisted on it. Our father was very curious about the curriculum there too so everybody was happy.” Crispin was fine with it either way. He had decent grades there but they weren’t the best grades. “I was always in the lower sets though whilst Cassia and our brothers were in the higher sets. It was a lot easier to make friends there.” Crispin raised an eyebrow when Nathan started to sing. It was funny and awkwardly sweet at the same time. “I don’t always read women’s magazines you know?” He chuckled softly though. It was quite good. “Um, you maybe an odd one but you’re pretty cool?” Crispin tried singing, knowing it wasn’t the best.

“That sounds exciting. What’s it like, a muggle school?” Even though Nat’s mother is a muggle his father never wanted him to attend muggle educational systems. His mother would always argue that he needed the experience, until he started to display his magical abilities.  Nat grinned, “Why thank you, that might be the kindest thing anyone has ever sang to me.” He reached behind him and grabbed Crispin’s hand. “You’re a beautiful ball of abstract fuzz that reminds me of my long lost childhood pet rabbit that I actually kinda hated, but I don’t hate you,” he sang. Nat knew that he couldn’t pride himself in his musical abilities, but he was very proud of how his song was turning out.

“There’s always the room of requirement? Don’t know if Potter will be happy but I’m sure it’s better than facing that pink troll.” Augustus had served many detentions in the past but none were as bad as Umbridge’s detentions. He just hoped his brothers didn’t end up with such a nasty fate. “Stephen Hawking? He’s that famous muggle scientist right? I’m sure his name has been mentioned in muggle studies before.”

Nat nodded, “The room of requirement would be the perfect place to have our pot party.” He said with a grin, “as long as no one has a big mouth.”  Nat had served a fair few detentions, during the past few year, but he had done his best to avoid having any with Umbridge. He heard how bad they were and he wanted no part of that. “Yeah, he’s the muggle physicist with all of the black hole theories. It wouldn’t surprise me if he was mentioned in muggle studies, intelligent man he is.”

Naomi shook her head in frustration. “Absolutely nothing. A few times I thought I might of spotted a splash of something a little further out in the lake but I very well could have just imagined it.” Naomi sat there, trying to think while also listening to Nat speak. “Maybe I just need to bring them something, like food. I just need to give them a reason to befriend me instead of just sitting around. What do merpeople eat?” Naomi was starting to figure she might have wanted to do a little more research on merpeople before she took on the challenge of becoming friends with them. She shook her head again, smiling slightly. “For some reason I get the feeling communication with the giant squid will be even more impossible than the merpeople, so unless you happen to know how to talk to it I don’t think that’s happening.”

“Food? Don’t they eat fish? Or sea plants? People?” He didn’t know that much about merpeople, but he was willing to assume that they ate whatever was in the water. “My first year I was hell bent on communicating with the giant squid, so I sat around for hours everyday, looking for some sort of sign. Finally I grew bored and decided to go for a swim, next thing I know I’m being lifted out of the water and placed back on land.” Nat was sure he would have been amazed if he wasn’t absolutely terrified that there was a fish big enough to lift him out of the water. “I don’t think the merpeople would enjoy having you on their property, but you could always go for a swim.” He said as he sat next to Naomi.

You know, it’s been fucking awful walking passed the potions room without making sure my eyebrows are still on my face.

“Well, I can assure you that they are, in fact, on your face,” he trailed off and stared at Seamus’ face, “for now.”

“How do you purpose doing that then? I don’t think everyone would be up to it.” Augustus would love to see it though. It must have been his rebellious streak egging him on. “Hm, I suppose I could do that. My family are important to me, even if the business isn’t. I’m sure my professor will be understanding when it comes to the marking.” Augustus saw logic in the younger male’s idea. It made a lot more sense than his previous attempts. He didn’t want to become a sleep deprived zombie again.

“We could gather all of our willing friends and hole up in one of our dorms or an abandoned class room, or even go outside to a secluded spot. Then we sit there, have a fun time, debate whether or not Stephen Hawking is a good guy and eat a ton of soup and pudding.” Nat had been joking when he first brought up the idea, but if Augustus wanted to go through with this then he was all for it. It had been a while since he had been to a party.
