This iconic dance known as Flor de Piña, it's world-renowned traditional folk dance from Tuxtepec, Oaxaca, created in 1958 to highlight the Indigenous roots of the Papaloapan River basin.
Dancers perform barefoot, balancing pineapples on their shoulders while wearing colorful, hand-embroidered indigenous huipiles (blouses/tunics).
The choreography draws geometric figures on stage, representing unity and local pride.
During the performance, the dancers carry the fruit on their shoulders as an offering, and at the end of the dance, they hand them out to the audience as a gesture of generosity.
Tuxtepec is a major pineapple-producing region in Oaxaca, México.
