2017 Look Back
2017 was a shit show. It started off great with concerts and being with friends and family, but it took a turn at the end of March. I was broken up with unexpectedly on my first day of my first spring break as a college student and my best friend at the time was going to Texas. I had to cope with this break up alone and it was difficult. Things turned around slowly and I put all my focus into school. In June, I discovered an amazing local pop punk band who I am now extremely close with and merch for. In mid-July, I got my first job at Wendy's and worked my ass off there for 4 months and made great friends from that opportunity. I unfortunately had to quit to focus on school and my mental health as I was beginning to have a difficult battle with anxiety and seasonal depression. In August, I went to Warped Tour like I have been doing every summer, but it was different this time. I went alone and although I was a nervous wreck at the start of the day, I ended up having an amazing time seeing the bands I wanted to see and taking a TEI class with Ash Costello of New Years Day. In September, the dream of being an aunt to a little niece finally came true. My older brother received the greatest birthday gift a father good ask for, a gorgeous baby girl born on his birthday. Emilia Autumn is a gorgeous, healthy baby, who I am hoping to hold and spoil very soon. In October, my little brother turned 16 and I went to a concert on his birthday. 😂 Yes, I felt very bad for not being with him but Jule Vera is an amazing band and I take advantage of every opportunity to see them. Around this time my now ex-best friend decided that I "talk too much shit" and to no longer talk to me. In reality she used me for rides and money for concerts and I stopped supplying any of that to save up for school. Of course this hurt as we were friends since the 2nd grade, but sometimes toxic and negative people need to be removed from your life in order for you to flourish and grow. At the end of October, my little brother went to his first high school dance with his girlfriend and they also celebrated their 1-year anniversary the same day! In early November, my uncle took a terrible fall, head first down the stairs at his house. He fractured his spine in two places and knocked an artery that supplied blood to the right side of his body. His recovery has been a very long and slow process as he has to relearn how to walk and use his extremities. Thankfully he has made amazing progress and is going home to his wife and son in just a few days. The holidays didn't feel right this year as my uncle was still in the hospital and a few of my cousins chose to spend time with their Nana who has dementia and isn't doing to well. All of our family gatherings felt very small, but we still made the most of them. 2018 is looking like it should be a good year as I am taking my last 2 psychology classes and will only have general ed classes to finish in the following semester(s) before receiving my Associate's in Psychology. I'm unsure of what journey's life is going to send me on through this year, but I'm ready to face every challenge I am met with. Here's to a new year, a more improved version of myself, and a hopeful outlook on where my life is headed.
