So yeah we finally went to see Christopher Nolan's huge Epic The Odyssey. Now I can honestly say I never read the original stories but I do know the general things Now we went to the early like 6-6:30 showing being it was a 3 hour movie. We didn't want to be there late at night and we didn't see it in 70mm IMAX because there isn't one of those locally we just seen it at our regular multiplex I felt the picture was just fine I didn't feel that it was insanely cropped or distorted or anything it looked perfectly fine I didn't feel we were missing anything. Also when we went I would say the theater was probably have packed with people.
Now as for any type of collectable Yes they had the Trojan horse buckets at the theater I seen 2 on display but we didn't get one. I didn't really want one, they looked nice but still I passed on it.
Now as for the movie I'm going to try and not say too much about it I don't want to give anything away.
So what is this actually about? It is basically the story of Odysseus the king of Ithaca (Matt Damon) who leaves his home with his army to fight in the Trojan War after the siege of Troy he and his men go to head home and instead of taking the main route like everyone else they decide to take the "scenic route" and end up getting lost on the way which results in them having to face violent storms, mythical creatures/monsters and Gods as well as magical beings. They literally had to go to Hell and back in order to get home. Which in turn took 10+ years and when Odysseus returns he has to try to regain his kingdom from some underhanded people who want to usurp his throne.
I would honestly say the movie was was somewhat amazing it is big, its epic and it is something that you need to see on the biggest screen you can watch it on. and yes it is a 3 hour thing but when you are watching it it didn't feel like 3 hours. and it is not just the voyage of Odysseus the movie goes back and forth from what he and his men are experiencing and facing to what is happening back in Ithaca where his son Telemachus (Tom Holland) and his wife Penelope (Anne Hathaway) are trying to stop the take over of the kingdom by Antinous (Robert Pattinson) so you kinda of get this bit of mix of I would say political intrigue and these massive spectacle moments with really nice action and visuals.
The movie is very visual when it needs and wants to be. The sets and the shear scoop of the movie is massive and I do feel that it is going to be nominated for a bunch of Oscars.
All the stuff with the Cyclops was really cool and the scenes with Circe turning the guys into pigs was very neat and a bit disturbing at the same time. The land of giants was kind of a crazy action sequence but even though that was cool I was wondering why they attacked Odysseus and his men right off the bat? but I don't really think it matters I guess.. and the final action set piece with Odysseus fighting all the guys in the grand hall was pretty awesome.
I thought everyone did an amazing job as their character and I do feel this movie lived up to the hype and was worth the wait to see it.
The only really main problem I had with the movie was I felt so bad for Odysseus' dog through the scenes he was in and his final scene was so sad!!
Now I wanted to mention a bit about the controversies firstly I feel I missed the woke part of this? but then again what does woke mean anymore? It might mean something different to everyone at this point but I guess I just missed the parts that I would consider woke then?
As for the thing with ellen page no they do not play Achilles (LOL!) of course they play like I guess a scout type of character named Sinon and they are pretty much only in like 2 scenes for a few minutes each the part were the Trojan discover the horse and where Odysseus goes to Hell and talks to Sinon there. the way people were going on it was like they were the main character in every scene but personally I mean it was a good part for them and I feel they fit that role of that character I was pretty much "meh" about them being in there.
Now as for Lupita Nyong'o who was very controversial choice in this and in away I kinda agree with it. Now I have nothing against Lupita Nyong'o she has been great in things I remember seeing her in like the Black Panther movies and she was awesome in A Quiet Place: Day One as well as she had done some amazing voice work in Star Wars and The Wild Robot but in this I do feel like she was out of place as the character of Helen of Troy? I don't know if that is the best way to describe it? but that is just how it feels to me. She could have been Circe or Calypso and I don't think that would have had the same feeling about her but just as Helen like I said she seemed out of place and also she didn't get alot of screen time either so over all I don't know why people were having an absolute fit of these 2 characters.
but yeah I thought it was an excellent movie and I do feel it lived up to the hype and was exciting and interesting and if you want to go see it then I would go and experience it for yourself
