8 months earlier.
Nayomi had been in her room for days now. No one, not even her sister had seen her leave. Her bin was over flowing with scraps of screwed up paper. At her desk Nayomi had several sheets of lined architect paper in front of her.
She’d been drawing up plans for something large, she also had several photos and detailed notes she kept referring back too.
Stoke after stroke with a pencil held in her magic Nayomi drew plans for rough corridors and round rooms of varying size often taking notes of what rooms were for.
Hours went into the design of each individual level as she carefully planned out every meter of this enormous structure.
Eventually she stopped at five levels with a little smile. After inspecting each one a moment she folded the paper sliding them into a saddle bag. She flung a match at the trash bin in an attempt to burn away the evidence of her plans. She threw the remainder of the sketch paper into the fire to further hide her plan.
She didn't like keeping things from her sister but sometimes it’s a necessity of sorts. Her sister would likely want her to follow through with her plans but she had to be sure first, she had to know if she could survive on her own again after so long.
The last 3 years were spent helping her sister and in that time her own changelings had grown large in number.1 She’d taught each one everything she could about her own skills and their innate abilities. Watching her two elites create variants and adaptations of her moves was entertaining to her.
She’d also biologically designed her personal guards with the help of her sister, the dragoon were powerhouses in terms of speed and lethality.
So far her two elites, Deception and Alpex had found the perfect location to set up a new hive and scouted out the nearest villages to see where her base of operations should go. A large village controlled by a small gang seemed to be the prime as it was just across a road from the forest that lead to the cave system the hive would be built in.
Nayomi grabbed the saddle bag she slipped the plans into and her two pistols slipping the bag and the holsters over her back and locking them in place. The young changeling stepped closer to a wall cast in darkness and walked through it, coming back out in Zebrica. Specifically in the forest outside of the intended location for her hive.
“You’re late mother” a voice said from above. An adult changeling dropped down, her light grey mane and red eyes clearly reminiscent of her mother’s would solidify their relationship to anyone who saw them together.
Nayomi smirked “I never specified a time That I would show up Deception. In fact I’m earlier than I thought I would be” she said walking up to her much shorter daughter, lowering her head so she could looking into Deception’s eyes.
Deception shy’d away from her taking a few steps back “of course... My mistake” she said as she looked at her hooves to avoid Nayomi’s gaze.
Nayomi stood up to her full height again “Very good. Report” the Queen said looking down at her daughter less like a mother and more like a CO (commanding officer).
Deception shot up placing her right foreleg over her breast“yes ma’am!” she said looking back up at her mother with an even expression “There is a cave system in the mountain but it’s very small however there is a set of mines that runs both up and down the mountain but they appear to be abandoned due to a cave in that myself and Alpex bypassed. To make a full sized hive some serious digging will need to be done” Deception said in a calm even tone as she explained all the dangers that lay inside the mines.
Nayomi rubbed under her chin as she looked up at the mountain as she thought. She narrowed her eyes as she looked back at Deception “What were they mining?” she asked. The answer to this question could determine if this will be her new home or not.
Deception gave a slight smirk “they were mining Diamond ma’am” she said happily.
Nayomi looked back up at the mountain “This will be our new home” she said opening her saddle bag pulling her plan out “I’m going to bring a team here, they’ll be in charge of digging out the mines. I need you to gather some weapons common to this region and some simple armour, then store it here so you can go back to the hive and gather another team to defend this place, disguise as a zebra, make sure your team looks like its a gang” Nayomi said with a little smirk.
Handing the plans to Deception with her magic Nayomi continued “Give these to Alpex, she’ll be in charge of the dig and building team” Nayomi said looking up at the mountain again “This is it Deception. This is where everything changes”
A recorded message sat against the door to Pendletons hotel waiting for him. It was as follows “Pendleton Dreadful,” the familiar raspy voice of Nayomi said through the speakers. She sounded slightly deeper than she used to, more mature perhaps “it has been quite a long time since we have seen one another, about a year correct? I’m hardly the changeling you once knew. You’ve likely noticed by now that I no longer live with my dearest sister.
I’ve moved on to my own hive further south in the zebra lands. You should visit some time, we’d love to have you. Besides, we need to mark you as an ally. I’ll see you when i see you then my friend” the voice went quiet and for a moment there was only static.
Suddenly another mare walked in and asked “Who was that?” The mare had a thick Irish accent then the recording cut completely.

Pendleton chuckled to himself at the other voice chiming in at the end of the message. “Well, either Nayomi’s trying to sound tough and somepony interrupted her, or she’s continuing to evolve as a Changeling. I’ve noticed her gone from her sister’s Hive. I guess that means she’s left to establish her own. That’s some fast development but C…her sister…told me that their line is unique. Her sister’s survived Deadites, Dragons, the Goddess-Princesses and who knows what else. I guess it just comes with their lineage. I suppose I can make a quick trip to Zebrica to have a look around. I just hope the Ananzi don’t mind me being back so soon. The Spider-ponies were really pissed off when I got carried away with phosphorous shells. It was just one village and they were all dead. How was I supposed to know the spiders had dug nests under the huts?”
He broke open his shotgun to look down the barrels. “I hope that marking thing doesn’t hurt. I’ll have to ask her what that entails. Oh well. Time to go see what’s happening down there. It’s been a while so I hope some of the conflicts between the warlords have settled down a little.”

“A New Home, a New Love”
A familiar changeling looked into a mirror trying to get her hair right. Her red eyes contrasted perfect against the rest of her form. In the end she just shrugged and a red flame surrounded her as she changed into a slightly smaller zebra. She stretched a moment looking back into the mirror.
“Perfect~” she smirked at her reflection before turning to move on. Returning to her bedroom she moved over to her bed kissing the forehead of an average height batpony mare. Her right foreleg was made entirely out of metal. She slipped away from the mare in her bed walking the dark halls of the hive.
But this was not her sister’s hive. No. This was her’s. Someone had been a busy bug.
As she walked through the snaking halls of her home her children, small black and grey changeling’s saluted her. Their eyes a deep red and their horns sharp like knives.
She passed between a pair of guards armed with SMG’s from her world. They saluted her as she passed. Their armour covered their full bodies and their bat like wings stuck out from the sides much like their knife like horns from their heads. The armour was plated and was made out of a foreign metal. Their red eyes were the only thing visible on their face other than their ears on horn because mask attached to the helmet covered everything. Their bodies were much larger than the drones, they appeared to be built for fighting.
The zebra mare continued deeper into her hive passing more and more heavily armed guards until she reached her destination. The furthest back point in her hive with a constant seven guards as well as two patrolling guards inside.
This was the most important room in her hive, this room contained a powerful computer built from parts from different universes including her own. The computer spiralled up like a tree into the ceiling. This device had finally reached completion after several months of collecting and construction effort.
Nayomi activated one of the monitors and sat down. This would take her a while.

The message begins with a white hoof manually focusing a mounted camera before it moved away to reveal the form of a zebra standing before its gaze with a cool and confident appearance. The corner of her mouth lifted in a smirk “Hello my friends. If you are receiving this in any way shape or form it is to let you know that I am indeed still alive” to clarify what she meant, she simply blinked and upon opening her eyes they were that of Nayomi, before she blinked again and they returned to their deep pupiless blue.
Her smirk grew slightly “Well this message is also to let you know that I have been busy in my absence. I have successfully started my own hive, for safety I can’t tell you where other than it is in the zebralands. We are now 2,000 strong and growing by the week. My changeling’s and I have dawned the disguise of a zebra gang and a strong one at that. I am still keeping in touch with my sister, she has been instrumental with the continued success of my hive. Also… I waited for her, for so long I waited for Dee but… I can’t get to her world any more… I had to assume the worst. I managed to find another mare that found her way into my black holey heart” she smiled slightly.
She leaned on the desk to get a bit closer to the camera “I know I’ve already sent you a recorded message on a tape recorder but I thought I’d let you know what I’ve been up to as well. So in short I’m not dead and am doing fine. This console will gather any replies to this message in whatever form you write it so long as you tag it with my name. It will also allow for new messages to come through” she said before hitting a few buttons on the console “Time for me to go” she said simply before the feed died. ________________________________________________________________
