"Tense how?" He asked curiously, trying to see if he could get a sense of things for his best friend. Helping her would definitely get his mind off of everything else going on around him and that was something he desperately needed. "Have you tried talking to him about it?" Jeremy played with the sides of his beer and waited for Nazli to answer him. "Maybe he's waiting for you." @nazlixceyhan

"Talking to that man about anything other than work has felt like talking to a brick wall." Nazli said with a shake of her head. "I don't know if he regrets it or is a robot or what," she continued, "but unless it's about work, he really doesn't seem interested in being in my presence. Then again, he's also hard to read. Like a brick wall. Actually, no, that might be easier to read." Nazli let out a huff of laughter, shaking her head once more. "I honestly don't get how men can be so stubborn." Being pulled into a hug startled her for a moment. Nothing too severe, for she knew it was Nazli and someone she could trust, so she'd eased into the hug soon enough, her arms around the other soon enough. She didn't blame Nazli, assuming she didn't know about the severity of her blindness. It wasn't so odd to think, for she could see before she had left for that damn 'trip'. "I've missed you too." She returned the sentiment, her hands rubbing the other's back. "I need you to tell me everything that's happened to you these last few years. Even what you might consider normal or boring." @nazlixceyhan

"You want to know everything?" Nazli let out a breath as she pulled back from the hug, taking in her best friend one more time. She was having a hard time wrapping her head around the fact that Mabel was actually standing right there. "I don't even know where to begin." She paused for a beat, "Okay, wait I do. I'm not married anymore." It used to be something that Nazli found difficult to talk about but it had been almost three years since the divorce. "That's uh, that's a good place to start." She told Mabel. "We got divorced almost three years ago now." @mabelxhughes

Once again, Berkan and Nazli were out of town for a court hearing and they found themselves in Portland. The drive over was quiet as the tension between them was still very clear almost seven months later. He tried filling it just by songs on the radio, but he could feel the tension in the car. As they got closer to the city, the wind was picking up quiet a bit, but he didn't think anything of it. As they got to the law firm they had a meeting at, the wind was getting worse through the city. They got inside fine and started up the elevator when suddenly the power went out and the elevator stopped. He moved to click the button, but nothing happened. He clicked the emergency button as well, but still nothing. "This is just fantastic." He said and tried the buttons again.

Nazli and Berkan didn't do a whole lot of talking outside of what they needed to say to one another. She found it best not to engage with him at all unless she needed to. Two could play the cold shoulder game, right? But, she still had a job to do and sometimes that meant being trapped in a car with him on the ride over to Portland. Unfortunately, it never made sense for them to drive separately. What she did not think was included in her job was being stuck in an elevator with Berkan. Nazli let out a sigh as the power went out and she closed her eyes, hearing Berkan press the button. "Yeah, it sure is." She knew that neither of them actually meant it. "This would happen to me." Nazli spoke to herself, opening her eyes to look at the top of the elevator. @berkanxyilmaz

She laughed as she saw her sister's reaction and she pouted a little. "Boo. I was looking forward to giving him a piece of my mind." She told her, but her pout was quickly replaced by a grin. "Perfect. I need a new swimsuit and some fun camp outfits." She told her sister. "And whatever you want to get, too. I think we both need summer outfits and look hot this summer." @nazlixceyhan

"I mean, maybe one of these days you can. He still will need it, but not right now. Things are already weird enough at work." She said with a shake of her head. "I'm trying to just bide my time until I'm done with classes this fall." She told her sister, "I doubt he will even hire me and then it won't be a big deal." Nazli knew she could find work elsewhere if she needed to. "Okay, yes, I love this line of thinking." She beamed at her younger sister, happy to see that there was some hope in her as she spoke of summer. "Maybe we can get manicures and pedicures after, too. Really commit." @alinamarrero

"I have worked with clients and attend events with people who were super private and you would think that they were in the FBI or CIA or something but nope, I guess just very private and I figured they always had their reasons for that," Ben always liked to give people the benefit of a doubt for sure and he knew people had their reasons for doing things. "Ah, I see," he noted. "That's cool. Can I ask what inspired you to be a paralegal?" @nazlixceyhan

Nazli nodded her head, "To each their own, right?" Having lived in Kismet Harbor her entire life, she wasn't sure that she could be private about her life even if she wanted to. Even her own divorce had spread like wildfire through the coastal town. "I wanted to be able to help more but not necessarily commit to going to law school. I already have a bachelor's degree. But, thankfully, we don't really need a lot of child social workers. That's what I did before. I know I can't do a lot on my own, but I can take my applied skills and help make a bigger difference. The lawyer I work for does a lot of cases outside of Kismet Harbor and I feel like I've been making a difference just as his assistant." Nazli glanced down at her watch, "Which, speaking of, I've got to go meet him. But it was nice to run into you." @benjaminxjackson

Andie listened as Nazli spoke, using a hand to wipe her cheeks as her gaze remained focused on the shirt in her lap. She'd never considered that option, that giving yourself a timeline to grieve was reassuring. She knew it was new but there was a part of Andie that felt like she'd never be in a point where it didn't feel completely debilitating, and even though she were sure there would always be days where getting out of bed wasn't worth it, there was a bit of comfort that came along with the other's words. An ease in her chest as she inhaled, no longer feeling like she were suffocating in her own skin. "That's reassuring." she stated, nodding slowly. "Because I do think that there's a stigma with grief that if you're still in the thick of it all for years to come there's something wrong with you and that's not fair." @nazlixceyhan

"You're right," Nazli nodded her head. "I don't think there should be that stigma but it's a difficult one to change, I think, for anyone that isn't going through something so debilitating." Nazli's lips parted as she let out a sigh. "Alas," she gave the woman a small smile, faint but filled with warmth. "As unfortunate as grief is, it does bring us closer to people you'd never expect." Though she didn't really know the woman before her, she had a feeling that this moment would make them closer in due time. "I'm Nazli, by the way." She offered an introduction to her this time. "I know this isn't the way anyone wants to meet someone new in their lives, but," her smile grew a little, "if you ever need someone to talk to that isn't so inserted in your daily life, I can offer myself." @andielawson

"So, have things gotten better with the boss since I've been gone?" Jeremy asked Nazli as he sat down a drink in front of her then sat down with his own across from her. He took a drink and leaned back a little in his seat. "Or has he still been acting like nothing happened?" He was curious what the update was since he spent the last few weeks in Georgia and he really wanted to hear what was going on in his best friend's life.

Nazli thinned her lips with Jeremy's question. She knew it would becoming, sooner or later. "Honestly, I ran into him at speed dating of all places and things were weirdly tense." She shook her head before taking a sip of her own drink. The alcohol had given her a light buzzed feeling already. "I just don't get it, you know?" Nazli let out an exasperated sigh. "I've come to rescue you." Alina said as she came up to Nazli's desk at Legal Lighthouse. She wanted to go out with her sister to do some shopping and maybe grab some food, but she was at work and she was determined of breaking her out if she could help it. "We're going shopping and if I need to talk to that jerk boss of yours, I will. He can let you go for an evening."

Nazli looked up at the sound of her sister's voice, catching her off guard. "Jesus, Alina," she breathed, her pulse quickening with the startle. "He's not here." Nazli had mostly been relieved by that notion, if she were being honest. "So, I'm all yours." The brunette closed the file she had open on her desk, carefully placing in the drawer before shutting down her laptop for the evening. While she normally took it home with her, she'd just come in early tomorrow to get a head start. "Are we shopping for anything in particular or just shopping to shop?" Nazli questioned, grabbing her purse from the coat rack. @alinamarrero

Andie's gaze had been fixated on anything other that the other for as long as she could manage, blinking as tears filled her eyes, spilled over and the cycle repeated. Not because Andie didn't want to cry, she just didn't want anyone else to see it. It was only when she was sure she could speak without bursting into tears that she let her eyes meet the other's. "How did you handle it?" she exhaled. "I just bought this shirt for my husband and it was only when I pulled my phone out to tell him I bought him a surprise that I realized what I'd done." she paused, sniffling before she looked at the brunette. "I never thought I would be that person, that I would just know, but, that instinct hasn't gone away and I just -" she paused again. "I didn't think it would be this hard to find a new normal again." @nazlixceyhan

At the woman's question, Nazli met her with a pause. It wasn't the type of question that she had answered before, not aloud. Not even to herself, really. No one ever asked it. "I think the part of thinking of it like a new normal is putting pressure on yourself to grieve on some timeline. Grief doesn't have a timeline and while you shouldn't let grief control you per say, you have to go with it. Don't force one thing or another. Years later, if you do this, it's not a moment of failure or weakness. It just means you haven't forgotten them." @andielawson

He nodded. "A little too good." He said, thanking the bartender as his drink was sat down in front of him and he downed it quickly. He was going to work after this, but now he was thinking that he was going to just drink. "The ten minutes of talking to someone doesn't feel genuine?" He joked a bit, a smirk playing at his lips before he looked over at her. "I should've used that." @nazlixceyhan

Nazli kept her gaze on Berkan, watching as there was a faint smirk playing at his lips. "Yeah, maybe you should have." Her tongue wet her lips and this time she forced herself to look away. It was a hard task to do, harder than it should have been considering they were just colleagues. "I hope you end up enjoying the rest of your night, Berkan." "You are correct, I have met so many people are super private in my mine of work that even they don't talk about their jobs, but I guess they must have a reason for that," he replied as he shrugged his shoulders. Ben did not understand it at all but he was not one to judge and he respected that. He was also never anyone to push for information. "You are correct, I know law school can be hard and I do remember how stressful it was for some of my friends who were law students, had to work crazy hours and also study long hours too," he nodded his head. "You are right, if one don't think they can do something, then they are setting themselves up for failure." @nazlixceyhan

"Oh, interesting. I never would really guess people are that private about work. Unless they're like in the FBI or something like that where they can't talk about it." But, that was her experience. Nazli shrugged her shoulders as she spoke, casually. "Yeah, I mean, this isn't nearly as intense as regular law school. As a paralegal, I don't go to law school." Nazli explained with a warm smile. "I'm actually just getting a certificate because I already have a bachelor's degree in psychology." @benjaminxjackson

When her father had told her that Nazli was coming over for a visit, she had been excited. She sat in the large armchair, feet tapping, hands fidgeting with her shirt, waiting as time went by. Then, the doorbell, sound of muffled voices in the hallway, all making her heart beat faster. That was her oldest friend, someone she had missed dearly while she was away. Then once she heard the door open, her lips spread into a smile, slowly moving to get up off the chair. "Fighter Li, is that you?" She asked, arms already spread as she was waiting for a hug.

Hearing that Mabel was back in town prompted Nazli to reach out, immediately. She didn't know if Mabel would be up for visitors but she wanted it to be known that she wanted to see her oldest friend. When she got the go ahead, she cleared her schedule and showed up at Mabel's home. Greeted by her father, she exchanged a few polite words with him before finding Mabel getting up off the chair that she was sitting from. "Copy that," she grinned, feeling the tears well up in her eyes at the sight of her. "It's the one and only." Nazli approached, wrapping Mabel up into a tight hug. "I've missed you." @mabelxhughes

Berkan had spotted her the second she walked in. He was sitting with a woman, Rose?, and of course Nazli caught his eye. He tried hard focusing on the date, his glances kept going over to her, until it was finally time for him to be done and he stood to go over the bar. "A refill, please." He said as he put his glass down that once held bourbon and he looked at Nazli. "Unfortunately." He said as he leaned against the bar. "My sister signed me up for it." He looked her over a moment then his eyes went back to her eyes. "You didn't participate?" @nazlixceyhan

Unfortunately. The word hung heavily between the two of them, but she didn't know why. They hadn't even talked about the kiss from New Year's Eve. They'd become too good at dancing around the subject and for a moment, she thought she was starting to move on from the thoughts plaguing her mind about it. "Ah, sister's are good for that." And in that moment, she was grateful that her siblings didn't do that. Though, she knew that there were other things going on in their life that were more important than Nazli's dating life. "No," she shook her had, "it didn't feel genuine to me, to meet someone like this." @berkanxyilmaz

Ben smiled softly, "I know people tend to be private for sure about their lives and jobs. I always ask if it's okay first before I ask someone what they do," he smiled softly. Ben was a private person himself and so he tried his best to be respectful, sure to him his job was not private. If you searched his name, a list of articles and even his restaurants would show up. "That's cool, I admire people who work and go to school. It is hard work being a student and working. I always wonder how they do it."

Nazli was still greatly confused by what the other was saying. She couldn't really say she had met many people like that. Berkan, perhaps, was private about his life, but not his job. But was that only because they worked together? "I mean, it's not like you're asking what my social security number is or something." Nazli added, a shrug of her shoulders to follow. "It's difficult, sure, but not an impossible feat. Plenty of people can do things whenever they put their mind to it. The trick is that they just have to believe in themselves first." @benjaminxjackson

Alina took a deep breath as her sister talked. Tears ran down her cheeks and she nodded. She appreciated everything her sister was saying, even if she did feel a little guilty she didn't say something sooner. Wiping her cheeks, she took a shaky breath in. "Can you just stay a while? We can watch movies and curl up on the couch like we used to when we were kids?" She asked, her eyes still watery. @nazlixceyhan

"Leens, I will stay as long as you need me to." She wouldn't leave her sister, not now. She wished that she had known earlier, could have been there for her long but how could she have? Only Alina could have let her know what really happened. "We can do whatever you need, whatever you want to do. I'm here for you and I promise that I am not going anywhere." Nazli gave her sister's arm a squeeze, a silent indication that she was going to stay as long as absolutely necessary. @alinamarrero

He nodded and started pulling up the app to order some food. Normally, he would have Nazli do it, but right now he needed that extra distraction so he didn't mind it. "No." She tensed her jaw, clenching it as she spoke the singular word. "No, nothing at all." She answered once more, as if to convince herself of the sentiment more than anything.
