@nlupdates​ || location: a rumored haunted cave in california

— ✿ when robin agreed to a ‘switch days’ video with ivy, she truly did not expect to explore a supposedly haunted cave as part of the schedule. luckily, she somehow managed to get someone to accompany her. it was probably all the begging and desperation, but who knows what really did it. with a selfie-stick in one hand and a flashlight in the other, they entered the icky, musty cave. her voiced bounced off the walls as she tried to actually get footage for the video. so far it was an introduction and a quick mention of the lore and how people disappeared here, but there was no true missing person reports from the area. it got increasingly darker the further in they went and instinctively robin locked arms with the person next to her. after a few minutes of walking round, talking to the camera, and taunting any ghosts, it felt like perhaps it was a good time to turn around. before having the chance to bring it up, robin turned around and pointed the flashlight to a pathway behind her, spotting a massive creature, hunched over with it’s back to her. it took a a second for her to react, blinking a few times before it fully registered that they were balls deep in an echo-y cave with a monster. as soon has her brain started functioning again, she shut  off her flashlight and turned to the other “step back quietly. count of three, we run.” she whispered as low as she possibly could, trying to hide the panic in her voice.

— ✿ “in the spirit of the holidays, i think it would be really fucked up of you to not kiss me under the mistletoe, but since i do believe in freedom i guess i understand if you want to be fucked up.” otis held the little plant above him and the first person he found. “it’s totally your choice, but i’m here if you decide to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity that had presented itself to you.” he closed his eyes and prepared for whatever was coming.

Saber’s cognitive facilities process the sentence slowly. “Uh, that — that won’t be necessary.” That isn’t the oddest thing told to him on the Nemean Lion grounds, though perhaps the most forward. “Thanks for the offer, uhm.” He clears his throat. “At any rate, what gift did you receive? I may be willing to take it off your hands.”

— ✿ “ah, really?” that was so nice of him. “i present to you,” the books floated in display once again “an encyclopedia set!” ivy was really trying to sell it was a fair trade. “you would be much better off with this than me, don’t ya think?” it was cruel of whomever submitted this for white lion to get away with it. there was no way it wasn’t a prank. “i personally don’t know how to read and you have a capital p-h phat brain so it would totally suit you to have these in your office or something.”

Whenever Bleu was happy, Alphonsine was happy. He did represent the child she always wanted to be, carefree and excited about everything, so it was like seeing a younger version of herself running around in the snow. The robot kicked the snow, picked up some of it into his little hands before dropping it. Then he did that action over and over again, finding pure entertainment in dropping the snow. Cute, Alphonsine thought to herself, phone out as she recorded her creation. Another video to add to her Bleu folder on her phone. Alphonsine was just… happy. Maybe, if it was still the two of them outside, she would’ve played in the snow as well. But as a familiar body neared her, she had to control herself and act as if she was too cool for the snow. “He’s over there if you want to play with him,” she said, gesturing towards Bleu who was now making snow angels. “Though, he looks content with just playing by himself.” Like a true only child. 

— ✿ trying to remember when their shift was, al walked through the snow miri had created. they were next, right? right. a lot of demigods were out playing in the icy weather, but only alphonsine caught their attention. the next three minutes were spent walking in circles, overthinking about going over to her. al kept telling themself it should be fine, even if they haven’t had an actual full conversation since halloween. finally, they approached the scene, alphonsine noticing them. “that’s true, but i can add to the fun, don’t you think?” al stood next to her. had she always been so short? “are you not going to play with him? what, too good for the snow?” with that, al turned and spread their arms out, letting themself fall back next to bleu, their body half sunk into the snow. “hm, maybe don’t do that, it kind of hurt.” they groaned.

juniper didn’t flinch, because she was too well-trained for that, but she did immediately tense. “so do you.” she gave ivy a strained smile and let herself be dragged away to the corner. “i’m not avoiding anything. there’s just nothing to talk about. we hung out, looked at some pics, went to a party. right?”

— ✿ this was getting exhausting. “ no, not right. you can’t bullshit me, so please just talk to me about it. i know you saw something.” besides, ivy had to clean up after being left there with everything. “ i went though all the photos, so i can put two and two together, but i need you because i don’t understand it. why wou—wh—why? just, why? we both need answers.” there had to be a reason it was kept from them, and knowing how the gods are, it wasn’t for for the sake of the two hecate children.

“Because I don’t want to.” Obviously. “What you just said. The hand holding, going to get ice cream and dinner– go do that with one of your many fans. I’m sure they’ll love it.” Alphonsine wasn’t sure if their band actually had a lot of fans, though it would be sad ( in a pathetic way ) if they didn’t have any. Al leaned in and Alphonsine moved just a smidge, eyebrow raised at their lower tone and question. “Isn’t it obvious? I think you’re annoying.” 

— ✿  alphonse tired so hard not to laugh. while that response wasn’t completely unexpected, it was just plain funny to actually hear it. “i thought we knew we were mutually annoying each other so that doesn’t count. tell me something else. or should i go first?” they held their pointer finger and thumb in an L shape under their chin, pretending to contemplate about it. “i think you’re stubborn as hell, but you’re smart so who am i to question when you have your mind set on something? i also think you’re it’s sweet how much you care about bleu, even if he’s a robot, he isn’t just a robot.” al heard their name being called, meaning it was time for the next set. they ignored it the first time. “ you’re a lot more caring than you show and even if you keep being mean, i think it’s cute.” they kept ignoring what sounded like angel calling them over until the fourth time. “sorry, your turn will have to wait. wish me luck and say goodnight to bleu for me. thanks!” they quickly turned and started talking to the rest of the band before giving their face the chance to turn red in front of her because why the fuck did al just say all that.

“no, no, not rosey — ivy.” he threw himself on his own bed, face down into the pillows. “she offered to show me her boobs for a different exchange gift and i didn’t say anything, al.” his voice was muffled, until the last bit, where he lifted his head to emphasize, then dramatically threw it back into the pillows. “why didn’t i say anything?” 

— ✿ they immediately had to hold in a laugh, with caused more of a snort. “i’m sorry, but that’s so fucking funny.” this wasn’t the first time angel had trouble talking to ivy, which was even more funny considering she did their make-up sometimes. “i don’t get why you have such a hard time with her.” al sat at the edge of the bed, next to their brother. “did she do something that i missed? i feel like something like this has never been an issue for you. next time we hang we’re gonna make fun of you.”

“Stop saying our son, he’s not your son!” You let a demi-god hang out with your robot and suddenly they think that he’s theirs. Gods! Maybe Alphonsine should’ve made Bleu less friendly, made him more standoffish, something like her. Though she wouldn’t have liked that, Bleu’s personality was like this for a very specific and personal reason of hers. Nose scrunched up in disgust, Alphonsine not liking how Al interrupted what she said. “Absolutely not,” she said. Not Al suggesting cute date ideas and Boss Baby Alphonsine rejecting all of them :/ Not very kash money of you alphonsine. “Go do that with one of your fans, not me.”

— ✿ even knowing they were actively in the danger zone, alphonse yoo was being an idiot and didn’t back off. “why not?” a very simple question, very simply stated. “and do what, exactly?” an immediate follow-up as al’s expression turned into a curious one. they leaned in just enough so she would still hear them now that their tone went lower, more direct. something in that rejection struck a nerve and it wasn’t the rejection itself.  “alphonsine, what do you think of me?”

“  definitely  .  it’s  sometimes  weird  as  shit  to  think  about  too,  you  know  ?  ”  rosey  nods  .  having  no  relationship  with  her  parents  helped  at  times  like  this,  where  she  didn’t  have  to  stress  about  having  them  adjust  to  her  new  life  .  "  thanks,  “  the  girl  smiles  at  them  and  takes  a  handful,  before  laughing  .  ”  you  know  the  way  to  my  heart  !  the  person  in  the  plaid  keeps  standing  up  for  no  reason  .  “  she  flicks  a  popcorn  in  their  direction,  watching  it  unsuspectingly  land  on  the  top  of  their  head  .  ”  any  plans  for  the  dance,  aside  from  performing  ?  "  rosey  inquires  .

— ✿ “i don’t understand why it’s so hard to have event etiquette.” sure, it was normal to get all hyped up, but even at their own band’s shows al would see shit that ruins it for everyone else. “oh, nice aim.” they aimed a piece at the same person since they were extra annoying, making it into the hood of their sweater. “well, not really. we’re going to be on stage for most of it so i haven’t given it much thought. why? are you trying to ask me to be your date?” it was a joke, mostly, and that dumb teasing smile the yoos shared showed up on al’s face.

The brim of her baseball cap, that doesn’t match her costume, mind you, casts a shadow that conceals Freya’s cheshire smile as she rushes into the venue. Her entrance was calculated to the millisecond — she timed her call to the venue thirty minutes after the set started, securing a private viewing box thanks to being, well, herself, and tipped off the tabloids five minutes later. The internet would know that Freya arrived before Robin had a clue that the daughter of Apollo would grace her harrowing concert with her presence. Sweetened the surprise when Freya appeared backstage after it was over, a slow clap thundering from her hands. “Brava, Robin, you were very…indescribable out there,” Freya coos, false niceties always coming easy around the other measly starlet to Freya’s sun. “Did you win the talent show? First place must be nice for a change.”

— ✿ the adrenaline still flowed though her, giving robin that post-concert glow and the right state of mind to deal with the surprise visitor. “ is it indescribable because you don’t possess the skills to do anything remotely close to my performances?” gods, freya truly seemed to be the most insufferable person she knew, and yet, something inside robin seemed to look forward to moments like these. “you know what, it wouldn’t be fair to declare me the winner when you don’t even qualify for a participation trophy.” she signaled a crew member to turn her mic back on, making an announcement before even making it back on stage. ‘guess what, everyone. a good friend of mine showed up today to perform a surprise encore with me.’ she met crowd again, lights hitting the stage. ‘we’re taking it back to something from my first album. give it up for freja!’ the hermes girl looked to the side of the stage, taking in freya’s reaction with an artificial smile made for the cameras. her crew stood ready with the extra mic and the back track fading-in, there really wasn’t any other choice for her rival.

 — ✿ things had been awkward between ivy and juniper ever since they’d looked at those photos together. they haven’t had an actual hangout sesh in a hot minute and there was no way to ignore the awkwardness that lingered in the air whenever they did catch each other around nl. it was a miracle they were able to coordinate the christmas tree outfits with miri. ivy was still trying to find a trade when her juni-senses started tingling. with a swift scan of the room, she spotted her nearby.  ivy went in for a sneak attack, poofing herself right by her sister. “juniper! you look super cute! we need to talk, though, and i’m not letting you get away from me this time.” she locked arms with her and started walking more towards the corner of the room. “you keep avoiding it, but i’m tired and i miss you so can you please tell me what exactly happened during family day?”

kyu couldn’t help but keep his eyes on Ivy, he could see she was in the middle of something. Didn’t mean he wouldn’t wait for her, and when he caught the last part of her sentence, he almost choked. For one, he doesn’t remember a time in which she would say tiddies and second, because she actually said that, he turned red. Good thing he had his hoodie on. “Ivy.” he waved as approached her.

— ✿ ivy turned in the direction her name came from to find kyu walking over. the books fell, and just like that she lost whomever was totally about to agree to her offer. “are you doing white lion? what did you get? trade with me or i’ll cry.”

— ✿  “before you say anything, just hear me out.” her customer service was on, but it was a little different than the one she used at bundtmuda, this one had a tiny hint of desperation in it. the encyclopedia set ivy ended up with was hidden behind her, held up with magic. “if you exchange gifts with me, you’ll be the proud owner of vast knowledge and wisdom—” the books spread out, now orbiting her and on display, covers facing the other “and it is an equal trade, because as a treat, i’ll also let you see my tiddies. deal?”

everything  was  finally  spinning  .  it  took  her  a  wine  bag,  spiked  punch,  and  shots  in  the  bathroom,  but  everything  was  finally  spinning  .  rosey  could  not  believe  how  messed  up  she  could  get  at  a  homecoming  dance,  but  she  figures  she  can  finally  cross  something  off  her  bucket  list  .  “  water,  please  .  thank  you  .  ”  under  sober  circumstances,  rosey  wouldn’t  have  been  caught  dead  within  a  feet  of  akane  .  “  are  you  chaperoning  ?  i  figured  you’d  have  a  date  to  this  thing  .  ”

— ✿ she came prepared, handing over the bottle of water that sat in her purse. “me, a date? please, there’s no one on this entire campus that i would want to take me to any event, ever.” her gaze focused on rosey’s outfit for a moment, judging the girl. “did you come with anyone? they’re not taking very good care of you.” akane’s eyes finally went to meet the other’s. “this is kind of making me sad, actually. let’s get some food in your system.” she took rosey’s shoulders and turned her around, linking their arms after. “i sweat if you throw up i’m letting go so you fall.”
