masks and helmets that hides someone's face in such a way that they become the face themselves my beloved
these are all creatures to me
Angel of War, angular and strange, gleaming silver and gold, Angel of Wonder, pure and one-eyed, looking to stars new and old, Angel of Harvest, simple and hidden, bring nature's sweetness to all, Angel of Health, mysterious and fine, beacon when life starts to fall, Angel of the Deep, crooked and cage-like, guide us across the sea, Angel of Solace, protect us from evil, lead us to where we are free.
Was inspired by the previous post a while back, and had been working on this on and off for a long while.
You can see the full-resolution versions on My Patreon.
I love all of these. The angel of the the deep's wings are canvas, held up by an anchor. The angel of war's wings are blades, and its shield is a coffin. The angel of solace is a mutant, its arms deforming into wings. Geiger counter in hand, it guides us through the danger only it knows. Was this angel once a man? Corrupted now beyond hope, he can at least save others from the same fate.
this shit is so incredibly cool that i cannot and refuse to attempt to properly articulate it
i just came out of my french test, the results for written and oral comprehension came out immediately cuz it was all on computer, and i got C1 level on both! i'm not really surprised because i practiced a lot and knew i'd get this score, but i guess it's still cool that i got this proficiency level through pure exposure and no formal training.
the written expression test followed those two and i was moderately nervous about it, but since they only give 60 minutes to do all 3 tasks, i kinda just had to write whatever and roll with it. i don't think i made any mistakes, but i need to get a fairly high level (B2) so i hope i get that even if my texts weren't super complex.
now the oral expression happened after a break and i was legit getting lightheaded in the minutes preceding it. my heart rate went up to 120 bpm and i felt sick. even though i have people i could practice talking with, i still have a block in my brain as i mentioned in a previous post, so my practice was minimal. the examiner was very nice though and gave me some pushes to help me continue when i got stuck, but overall i was able to complete the assignments and express ideas, i really hope it was enough to get B2. if i get B2 on both expressions, my immigration plan can proceed!
the results are in and i got the necessary B2 level!!!! Aaaaaaaaaaaa

i rly like heroforge so i finished setting up this little harrow i had made some time ago and made a new neo as well, and i thought hmm maybe i'll actually buy them at some point, they're surprisingly affordable and how cool would it be to have another real life neo?! then i found out that they're not called minifigs for nothing, they're like average 30mm tall, MICROSCOPIC!
i tweeted once on the day twt got taken down just to say bye, and again a few days ago cuz i wanted to share my cult of the neo doodle, but then i saw a news headline that the federal police was gonna investigate ppl that used the site after it was blocked, and granted it mentioned it would be only the extreme cases but as much as i wanna think it would be impossible for them to find and fine everyone that used twt (i used vpngate, which is free, so idk how much protection it gives), i still didn't wanna take any chances so i deleted those tweets lol!
it seems that the company is coming around to complying with the govts requests, so that's a semi good thing. if only elongatedmuskrat would just disappear and all the altright with him...
i have my IELTS exam this saturday, it’s the first time i’m taking an english proficiency test so i hope it’ll confirm that i actually know english!
i also booked a TCF Canada french test which i think is on october 3. i was not expecting to take it so soon, i initially planned to take it in december (to give me more time to “prepare”), so i am super nervous. i need B2 level to be able to set my plans in motion. if i don’t get it in all competencies i’ll need to take some francisation classes. i think i have excellent written and oral comprehension, but i just have a mental block when it comes to writing and speaking. i often have a clear idea of what i want to say but i don’t know how to string words together to say it, even though if i see it written down i’ll feel like i could have done it. my bf encourages me to practice but making the switch from comfy english to having to think how to say “i’m leaving class now and going home” is sooo hard for me. i’m gonna have to speedrun identify what grammar points need brushing up on and acquire some vocab. i rly need this to work…
i beat cult of the lamb (with an all cat cult) and felt inspired to draw neo in the games style. hes just a little guy
over the months since my sister moved out, i started encouraging my cat who always slept on my sister's bed to stay with me instead. at first i'd have to bring her to my room every night and she would only stay at the edge of my bed, but now she comes in by herself and sleeps right next to my face. i legit could not sleep without her purring and snoring within petting range, i love her
normally when i get into bed to wind down and sleep she knows it's bedtime and jumps off to go eat and poop before coming back and making her way to her new spot. so cute how she has a little routine
she also likes just hanging around people. when i'm alone in the house, which is most of the time, she stays in my bed snoozing. now my mom started WFH on wednesdays and i have class in the morning, so while i'm away the cat keeps my mom company until i come back. she still doesn't like being held and hisses at our other cat but she's only getting cuter with age (shes 14...)

today in my industrial installations basics & technical drawing class we learned about different types of joints, including my new special interest welding ‼️ i even chatted with teacher a little after the lesson and asked if manual welding is still useful even with all the automated processes, and he reassured me that it still has plenty of applications and is a rather in demand trade.
in my head there is a "i can be ur angle or ur devil" meme of a chemist neo wearing safety glasses and white lab coat and a welder neo wearing black shirt and a welding helmet. yeah i'm already full projecting, it's just so exciting being interested in a new thing. also, welding outfits are so cool they tickle my tokusatsu suit brain
bro no one ever told me how fucking EXPENSIVE getting a visa is. holy fuck. i just found out i need a medical examination and the bundle is like another 1000 upon the 1000's of BRLs and converted CADs i had already accounted for. my father can produce money if needed but i have never had my own money so i am extremely reluctant to spend any amount over 300 brl. i booked an appointment for said exam and once it was confirmed it said "btw it's 750 we accept credit debit or pix" and i just instantly cancelled it. i know even just being able to consider this path makes me privileged, but we ain't made of money and the way that expenses just keep piling up as i research more and more is pushing me to my limit
every other post on the canada subreddit is so widly anti-immigrant, anti-international student/worker, that it reallllyy doesn't help improve my opinion of anglos. as someone that really wants to immigrate and start an honest life in QC with my partner and have a better QoL than i have here, it's extremely upsetting to see people in the comments expressing such hostile views of what i may eventually become if everything works out. i sincerely wish i'll be a citizen in time to vote for separation
yesterday i talked with a guy who runs an agency that facilitates brazilian people's entry into québec, and he suggested enrolling in a college to get a DEC or DEP as a starting poing to getting the work experience required to become a permanent resident. that possibility had crossed my mind but i was close to dismissing it due to costs and time commitment, but he was quite convincing in making it sound like the option most likely to succeed (and it's his company's job to mediate all the paperwork, so of course he wanted to sell that option).
the closed work permit route requires an existing job offer; the open work permit route requires a job offer from an employer that has an LMIA (which is next to impossible currently and in the MTL area); and the regular skilled worker program requires a high score which mainly comes from work experience, which i don't have.
so the study permit route is beginning to sound promising. it would definitely cost a lot of money, but i have realised it's not an unattainable amount for me. the other concern i had is time: a technique program (DEC) is 3 years long, because it's an alternative to university, it's also expensive and has a bunch of general formation classes like philosophy and english and literature.
the other option is vocational training (DEP). they're usually 1800 hours/16 or 18 months long, a bit less expensive than techniques, and seem to have a decent chance of employment. so i looked at some courses and the trade i found myself most charmed by is welding assembly.
i legit stayed up until almost 4 am last night falling in this rabbit hole. both my partner and my mom seemed surprised that i would be interested in a kind of manual labour, but my mom always enjoyed stuff like that and seemed quite supportive. i understand it's a physical, sweaty job and i'm not in the best shape, and i have more experience working with computers than my hands. but i feel simply enchanted by the idea of learning it. i remember one time i was at my mom's uncle's house and we had fun trying out his soldering machine (which is welding adjacent i guess).
like, my university career started in materials engineering, an offshoot of the metallurgical engineering course. i picked materials because it was broader and had more chemistry in it, and i still like anything to do with materials, but i always liked metals the most. then i went into chemistry and felt sad that we rarely work with materials and solid state, and sometimes sigh and wish i could have finished the engineering degree. that's all to say being interesting in the welding trade is not completely out of character for me!
plus, my skills in chemistry labs are likely transferrable. organisation from planning experiments, patience from waiting for results, motor skills from all the titrations and pipetting and measuring mass, etc. i really think this could work.
yet two concerns arise from this path. one is the pay, which i'm sure is not great for a fresh graduate. i also don't know what the whole deal is with apprentices and journeymans, but i saw that if you're a journeyman it's a not insignificant about 64k/year salary, and there are tons of career options and employment seems good.
the other is, unfortunately, sexism. i felt good seeing a lot of women in all those videos of schools showcasing their soudage-montage DEP programs, but the reality is that it is a male-dominated field. look at any video on YT with female welders and chances are the comments are full of sexist remarks. even on reddit, people are likely to say "i don't care if you're female, male, gay, white, black, or orange with blue spots, i care that you do your job", which just feels icky somehow. as an afab who's not thick-skinned, i worry i'd be treated harshly or unfairly, even if personally i usually get along with men.
but anyway, that's where my immigration project is at the moment. i'm feeling more confident that the study route may be the best one. i didn't expect to spend my week off researching this, but i'm sort of glad i did.
for friends that are also on bluesky i am there at the same username. maybe i'll try using it since twt is ded
update, the user is ne0dym.com! i forgot there was funky stuff after the name, and i thought i might as well make use of my domain.
