I’m loaning out one of our cameras (a Sony HXR-NX5U) to someone filming presentations at a conference next week, so I took the opportunity to foolproof it with some gaff tape and a Sharpie.
Big cameras like this can be a little daunting. I’ve been using cameras like this for years, and it takes me two or three shoots before I’m really comfortable with them. But for something as simple as an event shoot, when all you really need to worry about is clean audio and decent exposure, highlighting the few buttons and ports the operator will need is all that’s really necessary.
I took the girls to the park the other day and shot this lil’ video on my iPhone.
UPEI History Honours student Alison Loney recently created a Renaissance era dress as part of her Honours thesis. The dress—which consists of 13 different pieces—is made from more than 30 yards of fabric, took about 320 hours to complete, and weighs over 15 pounds.

The Robertson Library at UPEI has launched another amazing archive site. Bowing Down Home features video, audio, and essays of and about traditional fiddling in Prince Edward Island. I had the pleasure of putting this video together for its launch.
Dr. Ed MacDonald and I filmed this last summer, but I haven't shared it much.
A few photos from Saturday's shoot along the North Cape Coastal Drive, which included two fishing boat excursions and a snack at Samuel's Coffee House in Summerside.
UPEI is a gorgeous place to be this time of year.
Made this lil' recipe video the other evening. Check out the original recipe for more details. Filmed on my iPhone 5.
I have no idea what kind of flower this is but it sure be pretty.
A must read if you've also seen The Royal Tenenbaums three dozen times.

I recently had the pleasure of animating a second series of videos for the YouTube Creator Academy. This time around, it was a series of seven trailers highlighting the different sections on the Creator Academy channel.
The videos were written and produced by the folks at YouTube and narrated by Matt Koval.
The first series, if you're interested, was a set of 13 course videos.
If you are a YouTube creator, you should definitely jump in on the YTCA action. The open course has a lot to offer to budding YouTube superstars.
Of all the retro photo filter apps for iOS, VSCO Cam is by far my favorite.
UPEI Chemistry Professor Dr. Brian Wagner demonstrates the magic (and trust me, it's pure witchcraft) and beauty of fluorescence. You can follow Brian for more #FluorescenceFriday tweets on Twitter.
