Sometimes I forget that I'm ace, so when that one person I'm acquainted with (you know the one: has to tell you all about their love life, even though you don't really care and you've told them as such) tells me that they kissed someone, I rear back internally and think 'ugh, that's gross, why would you want to do that!? i was rewatching the book of life last night, and i had and evil thought

No one in the town knows Manolo died from a snake bite(s), right? they only knew that Maria had got bitten by a snake because Manolo told them. if Manolo’s body was found by his father, maybe even HOURS dead, then they wouldn’t know that it was the snake. with this theory, i now present to you:

Joaquin probably thought that Manolo killed himself. remember what happened right before? Joaquin told Manolo that it was all his fault Maria had died. he asked why he hadn’t protected her. he put all the blame on Manolo and didn’t get the part where Maria is the one who saved Manolo.

And i bet that Joaquin thought it was all his fault. think about it! the girl that you and your best friend both love dies, and your best friend didn’t save her. and in your grief you snap at him and tell him it’s all his fault. you and the girls father take her back home, trying to see if there is anything you can do to save her. and then your best friends father comes into town and tells you that he is dead. he was found by the big tree outside of town. and you know that it’s your fault.

Xibalba gave him choice; I know he thought that Maria was dead and Joaquin told him that he should be dead, so he wasn't really in his right mind, but at the end of the day, Manolo chose to die.

I've just finished catching up on the last few episodes of each and:

NCIS in 2026: saving the agency by Director Vance getting offed (never getting over this).

Versus

NIS in 1992: saving the agency by putting a C in the name.

Just the absolute difference between the two approaches.

The writing styles between the two is wild! I've been rewatching NCIS (more than halfway through season 1 right now) and it's crazy to see just how much the writing has changed. NCIS used to take risks that they don't really take anymore, and it wasn't all technobabble every episode. I still love NCIS, don't get me wrong, and I do think they write death well, but the overall styles between NCIS and Origins is so different it's like it's a completely different series altogether.

Also, I need Vane to make at least 5 ghostly appearances every season, thank you very much!
