Before drawing this I got no information on this character aside from the fact that they’ve been dubbed “Sheriff of Boystown” and hey, that’s as good a thing as any. Quick Shortstack commission I did as warmup for @LibriWhiteWing
Fuckin, alright. So I'm about to do some serious brain-dumping about some stuff I just thought up about one of my characters, Arthur(pictured here). If stupidly in-depth descriptions about fairly minor events in the lives of pretty mundane characters living in a mundane world doesn't interest you then cool, just scroll past. Otherwise buckle the fuck up, 'cause we're getting in there.
Don't say you haven't been warned. And if you do decide to read this than good fucking luck.
RIGHT, so. The main thing to note about Arthur is that he suffers from pretty severe anxiety. It's the basis of the relationship he developed with his boyfriend Clay(pictured here) since the original reason for them spending any time with each other was their own loneliness and mental health issues that nobody was helping them with(Clay has and continues to struggle with depression, though through Arthur's support, a therapist, and some antidepressants he manages). Naturally it also brings about some tension, namely the fact that his anxiety heavily impedes his ability to keep a job. Clay busts his ass working at an autoshop and more or less gets paid enough to keep them both afloat himself, but there are times now and again where they're really struggling to keep themselves fed and cared for. Conversations about it rarely come up and when they do Clay's usually understanding. But one time after a particularly long and hard day Arthur had lost his job yet again and they had a pretty bad argument. Clay apologized for it just a few hours later and they made up, but it effected Arthur pretty badly. He always suspected Clay was bothered by having to support them both and in his mind the argument they had cemented that concept.
Fast forward a bit, he manages to get a job at a local coffee shop as a barista. Pretty small place, kind of a local gem that's not too widely known outside of their town so it's rare that they're super busy. Insert who will be referred to for now as Penny, a character who I only thought up maybe an hour ago who doesn't have an official name yet. She's Arthur's mentor, co-worker, and eventually best friend at the barista and eventually ends up being his sort of idol; someone he aspires to be like. She's super talkative and chill with seemingly everybody, knew damn near every customer by name, always stayed chipper and sociable on her shift despite her hours kicking her ass, and after getting to know her he found that she's amazingly resilient. Like anybody else, she's been through her share of shit but she's far beyond him in the art of bouncing back. The two of them develop a bond and hang out regularly outside of work, excitedly introducing each other to their respective significant others and just having fun.
The only time Arthur really sees Penny vulnerable is after a few weeks where he noticed that she had stopped smoking cigarettes. When he asks about it on their break she tells him she had to because she was pregnant with her fiancé's kid. She talked about it more in-depth, talking about how it wasn't planned at all and how sudden it was and how much money it would cost and for the first time Arthur really got to see how real she was. Never did he think a day would come where he'd be comforting Penny with a hand on her shoulder while she was on the brink of a nervous break down. In a way it was a sort of revelation; even somebody like Penny isn't indestructible and having moments of weakness where you're caught off-guard doesn't necessarily mean you've done something wrong. Still, being the person she is she couldn't let that conversation end on a low-note and made sure to mention that even as scared as she was and how stressful the whole thing is and will be it's not a bad thing. She was happy to start a family and was really excited to be a mommy, even fantasized about the future and wondering what the kid will be like. All that said and done she just wipes her tears, make sure she looks alright, and just gets back to business as usual.

In 1989, George Bush gave a speech about crack.
During the speech he pulled out a bag of crack and said “this bag was seized right across the street from the White House in Lafayette park.” Turns out, his speech writers had the idea to pull out a prop during his speech and in order to make it believable they had the DEA plant crack on this random 18 year old black kid.
They lured him there.
He didn’t even know where the White House or Lafayette park was.
When he got there, they arrested them.
The plot was discovered by a journalist.

His wife left him and his career was ruined for exposing the drug war as a war against people of color.
