SALMA HAYEK as Ajak in Eternals (2021).
“Imagine in your 50s you get a call from this director that you’re crazy about, who says, ‘You’re going to be a superhero.’ [Ajak] is full of contradictions, she’s the bridge between the Eternals and the Celestials, and it’s never easy to hold two sides together.”
ღ summary: instead of Thena, it's you who suffers from Mahd Wy'ry. and there's only one person capable of protecting you.
ღ a bit angst/fluff
ღ warning: it contains spoilers.

Your mind is deteriorating like glass.
Your Eternal allies and you are witnessing before your eyes how the Spanish invasion breaks out in the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan. Humans are killing each other. The most powerful enjoying the slaughter, the most vulnerable fighting until their last breath. It's unfair.
Druig wants to intervene as much as Sersi and Makkari, to stop the genocide, but the Prime Eternal, Ajak, reminds them not to interfere in human conflicts. While an argument begin to flourish among them, with the rest silently contemplating the cruelty of humanity and generating their own opinions in their heads, you are losing control.
Was this the purpose of it all, to help humans progress and develop their abilities and then try to be superior than others? They could continue to accomplish wonders, sow kindness instead of hatred and selfishness, help each other instead of turning their backs.
Memories of all kinds continue to mercilessly overwhelm your delicate mind: millennia of years watching humanity advance, you protecting them from the Deviants; famine, disease, pestilence, death, wars and more wars; the Celestials.
Anger. Pain. Fury. It's too much for you
"We can help them, why not do it?"
Druig insists, completely frustrated. The flames of fire burning just a few meters away, illuminating the dark and gloomy night.
Ajak is about to remind him of the purpose of the mission on Earth, but you speak first.
"It's too late, everyone's going to die in the end."
Ikaris is the first to turn to look at you, at whom you shoot cosmic beams out of both of your hands. He levitates in the air, dodging your impacts, disorientated.
"What's wrong with her?"
But there's no time for trivia questions because you start moving between them with the speed of light, attacking them.
In a matter of seconds, Sersi is thrown into the trees, only to be caught by Ikaris; Kingo receives an energy shot in the back and falls to the ground; Gilgamesh materializes his powerful gauntlet of cosmic energy in his hand but you protect yourself with a shield and attack him back in the same way.
"Y/N, STOP!" Phastos exclaims, to whom you run with a spear held tightly in your hand.
You're stopped by Thena, whose own spear collides with yours. She can see the white in your eyes, the emptiness. She heard of Mahd Wy’ry, a disability that affects Eternals, making them unstable and dangerous, but she never saw anyone go through it.
You're like a kind of younger sister to Thena, sometimes the daughter she never had, and it's for that reason that she wishes to take your place, to deal with the condition. She would if she could, so badly.
"Come back to us, Y/N." Thena asks, softly, and all you do is smile.
"You're going to die too, Goddess of War."
You move, attacking her, action she imitates. Eventually, you both start to battle. Thena tries to talk you back to reality but it's in vain. You're lost in an ocean of pain and fury and your only purpose is to hurt.
As soon as you cut Thena on the arm, more Thenas start to appear around you, including the rest of the Eternals. You look disoriented at everyone, at least until you spot Sprite, one of them all, and run towards her.
The illusion is immediately shattered.
"Someone stop her!" Sersi yells in alarm when she sees a sharp knife materialize in your hand.
Before you can deal damage to a vulnerable Sprite, you receive a cosmic energy impact that knocks you away. You pick yourself up off the ground in the blink of an eye, ready to attack Ikaris even worse.
But first you fight against Kingo and Gilgamesh, whom you hurt. You're about to go after Phastos but a fast and strong gust knocks you to the ground.
The moment you see Makkari on top of you, holding you still, with a pleading look on her face, the spear pierces the lower left part of her torso. You then throw her away from you and your superspeed allows you to reach Sersi in a second. The spear is about to hurt her too but then it vanishes from your hand.
"It's enough." Druig says, controlling your mind so that you turn around, facing him.
"Ikaris, grab her arms!" Phastos exclaims.
While both Eternals seem to be holding you back, Ajak finishes healing Makkari. The leader then looks in your direction at the exact moment when you break free from Druig's mind control and shoot new cosmic beams from your eyes, knocking him down. Subsequently, you begin to scream, generating a shock wave so powerful that all Eternal around you are abruptly thrown away.
For the next five minutes, none of them can stop you. Because you're capable of mastering all the powers and abilities of an Eternal, that makes you truly powerful and unstoppable. And now, in the middle of an episode of Mahd Wy’ry, you're three times as dangerous. You're no longer an ally but a hostile enemy.
"YOU'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!"
The spear re-materializes in your hand once more, ready to face whoever dares to stop you. And then it's Ajak who intervenes this time.
"Y/N, look at me." Cosmic energy glows in both of her hands as she, cautiously, approaches you. "Don't listen to your mind, focus on my voice."
Your memories seem to be being contained in some way but they still struggle to stay torturing you.
"I know this world is not what we want it to be, and it's painful, but it's okay to be vulnerable. You're safe."
Ajak's voice is soft, although her face reflects how difficult it's being to keep all your power under control. It's like she's trying to put out an erupting volcano and it burns too much; but she's willing to burn and much more for you.
"You know why? Because you have people who are willing to help you, people who love you. You are so loved, my dear." Her face melts into a tender smile and because of her closeness now, you appreciate the tears in her eyes. "We need you.... I need you. Will you please come back to us?"
The Prime Eternal offers you one of her hands and you take a step back, hesitant, confused, stunned by your thoughts.
"You don't have to fear, Y/N, I would never hurt you."
New memories escape from their little boxes and images are projected in your mind.
A woman healing your possible injuries after battles against the Deviants, even the smallest as a scratch. The same woman who seems to enjoy your company because she's always with you in the Domo library; who makes you nervous when she's around, who makes you laugh like no one else does. Who has always protected you, who promised to always be there for you.
"Ajak..." You whisper, your eyes regaining their color, their life.
A small smile of relief spreads across the Eternals Leader's face. But then flashes of orange cosmic energy shine on the skin of your face and your eyes are consumed again; your powers are fighting tooth and claw to break into chaos and she's not that strong.
"You will die too."
Before your spear can touch Ajak's body, Gilgamesh abruptly pulls you away from her and within seconds you two are battling.
Eventually, defeated and with no more patience, he concentrates all his strength and power in his cosmic gauntlet and the impact you receive knocks you unconscious on the ground.
──── ∗ ⋅◈⋅ ∗ ────
You suddenly open your eyes, finding a roof over your head. Although your gaze soon travels to the person next to you, and disoriented you ask:
"What happened?"
"You attacked us." Ajak replies softly. "You suffered an episode of Mahd Wy'ry."
You gasp for air. You thought it was only a myth, the famous Eternals Madness, because you never witnessed it or heard of anyone suffering from it. Apparently this is your destiny, to be the first of the group to go mad.
"Who did I hurt?" Your voice is a fragile whisper. You want to know the answer but at the same time you don't. You're scared of the truth.
"Kingo, Thena, Makkari..."
You break eye contact with Ajak as soon tears stream down your cheeks. These people are your family, and you would never hurt them. But at the end of the day you did, you broke your promise.
"Hey, they're okay, I healed them all." The woman adds, resting her hand on your head.
"I don't know... I don't know why I did it. I didn't mean to." You sit up straight abruptly, finding yourself sitting at a marble table. "I don't want it to happen again, what should I do?"
"The only way to heal your affliction is at the cost of your memories. If I erase every one of them, you would be able to continue living without hurting anyone."
"But I don't want that. I won't be anyone without my memories. I don't want to forget my life, my friends, you..."
Ajak takes your face in her soft hands, wiping away your incessant tears with her thumbs. She doesn't want you to forget her either, it would be too much pain, but your complete well being comes first.
"I don't want you to suffer, Y/N."
"Please, don't do it. I'll go far away, live in a cave if I have to but don't take away who I am."
She presses her forehead delicately against yours and your small, choked sobs break her non-existent real heart into tiny pieces.
Two hours ago, when she told you that you are loved, that's purely true. Of course, the rest of the Eternals love you, each in their own way, but the way Ajak loves you is of such magnitude that it's beyond compare.
It's not supposed to be like this, to have feelings for you, but they're there. And she knows it's reciprocated, the affection, the love, and that's why she will never give up on you so easily; because you wouldn't either.
"There's another option." Ajak whispers. "We have defeated the last Deviants on the planet, which means you can all leave and live your own lives freely."
"Really?"
She nods. "Now, you can certainly go to a cavern but isn't a cottage better?"
"What?"
The woman turns her forehead away from yours but stays close, stroking your hair as her chocolate eyes give you her undivided attention.
"I plan to live in a cottage, in the middle of nowhere, in touch with nature. Come with me, I can take care of you. You'll be safe and you won't hurt anyone."
"You're wrong. I can hurt you."
And that's more than reason enough to reject her proposal, as much as the idea of just you and her delights you. If you hurt her, you'd never forgive yourself; it's still hard to forgive the fact that you already hurt your family.
"We'll work on it. It will be a quiet, serene place where memories can't overwhelm you. But if that happens, we'll find a solution, together."
"I... I don't know, Ajak." The insecurity is not only reflected in your voice but also on your face. "I don't want to be a burden to anyone, especially you."
"Accept to be helped doesn't mean you're a burden, Y/N. When I said you are loved, I meant it. Let me help you, let me at least try. Please?"
Ajak then smiles in this sweet way that always makes you fall, and the fall is slow and gentle. She has more effects on you than you would like, but they all feel so good that refusing to feel them is not possible.
"I guess you're right, a cottage sounds way better than a cavern."
The Eternal giggles and melts you into a hug, one that you immediately return by clutching your hands on her back. With your chin resting on her shoulder, you close your eyes, breathing in her gardenias scent—a soft coconus—and enjoying the contact.
"I'm really sorry for what I did and said earlier. I feel so guilty and embarrassed."
"It's not your fault, honey, you must forgive yourself."
You keep silent. That will be difficult to do. Eventually you will have to if you want to heal completely, because Ajak certainly can't heal that for you; but having her support and affection is so important.
"You are loved too." You whisper in her ear.
Ajak closes her eyes as well, lost in your warm honesty. She knows it, she always knew it, but hearing you say it's so different, so beautiful and special; she would never take it for granted. And you neither.

Y/N doesn’t become intimidated easily. She was used to being around powerful people, equals, she would say. Ajak, however, was a lot different than the others
Maybe it was because she was more considers the leader of the group, making sure everyone stayed in line. An authority figure. Y/N looked up to her and admired her, so much so that she’d, at one time or another, formed a crush on her. She felt paralyzed. Admitting her feelings wasn’t on her list of things to do.
So, Y/N spent the majority of her time on Earth denying and forgetting her feelings for Ajak. And it worked for a while, until the decade of the 1980’s that Y/N couldn’t keep her feelings from bubbling up.
She wasn’t too sure where Ajak was located at. She knew the country, and the general areas, however she had no clue how to get to her house. So, Y/N roamed until she’d found it, small and alone and peaceful. She liked it.
Ajak was sat silently in the cozy living room, her face shoved in one of the thousands of books she had acquired during the years she’d been on earth. She’d hardly heard the knock at the door. Ajak hadn’t a single clue who it was, though assumed it was ok of the other Eternals, the only ones who knew where she’d been all these years.
“Oh!” Ajak lit up with a smile when she opened the door to see Y/N, standing there hopeful and alive. Ajak wrapped her into a hug. “It’s so nice to see you! It certainly has been a while.” Y/N nodded in agreement, letting go of Ajak.
“It has,” Y/N trailed off. “May I come in? I need to talk.”
“Of course!” Ajak exclaimed, opening the door widely to let Y/N inside. Looking around, Y/N saw just exactly how cozy the house had been. It was warm, and home-like. It reminded her just as Ajak was. Welcoming, warm.
Ajak showed her over to the couch, where a large book was sat, along with a notebook with scribbled notes inside of it. They sat, silently enjoying each other’s company for a moment before Y/N spoke.
“This is long overdue,” Y/N whispered, avoiding Ajak’s eyes. Her intimidation never went away in the slightest. Intimidation and warmth were an odd mix. “But it needs to be said. I’m in love with you.”
Ajak’s face screwed into something of confusion.
“I always have been in love with you. Since the moment I laid eyes on you, I knew there was something different about you. You were always intimidating, yes. But you were always warm, and sweet. Loving and caring. You were always so observant with me, involved. I just…. I couldn’t help but fall in love with you.”
Ajak took ahold of Y/N’s hand softly, giving it a reassuring squeeze. “And here I thought you’d never admit it. I love you too, Y/N. I always have.” All the intimidation melted away.
Headcanons for dating Ajak? Congrats on the 200! I’m so proud!

Ajak always tended to the Eternals wounds. With a quick wave of her hand, she could heal any wound and make the pain go away in minutes. She’d always done it without question. All with the wave of her hand.
But with Y/N, however, she didn’t just wave her hand. Ajak would always, no matter what, trace her fingers against their wounds, as carefully and softly as she could, watching as the marks go away, following suit with her fingers. It would relieve Y/N’s pain in nearly an instant.
Y/N had never thought much of it. They’d assumed she’d always been as touchy and careful with the others on the team. They thought it was just how her powers work, Y/N didn’t know any differently.
———
The sting of Y/N’s cut burned worse than it ever had before. It laced around their abdomen to part of their back, causing pain to walk and stand. They had smaller cuts on her head and bruises on their body that only worsened their pain. Y/N’s head was spinning and their ears were ringing like a bell, loudly and uncomfortably. They tried to push themself up off of the ground, but they couldn’t lift themself up well enough, and stumbled back down.
“It’s okay,” they heard Ajak call behind her reassuringly, soon falling to her side. “I’ve got you. I’ve got you.”
Ajak helped Y/N to their knees, lifting up their uniform to see the cut. With a understanding, yet painful look, Ajak traced her soft fingers against Y/N’s skin. The deep cut began to heal as she slowly touched it, the pain withering away every second that she did.
“Thank you,” Y/N whispered in relief, practically collapsing in Ajak’s arms. Their head was pressed against her chest, still trying to catch their breath. Ajack pulled her close, one arm around their shoulders and the other hand pressed against the back of their head, brushing the bruises and cuts with her thumb soothingly. Y/N’s headache began to be relieved, the ringing in their ears soon deteriorating into nothing. Y/N let out one last shaky, relieved breath as they pulled away from Ajak. She placed one small kiss on their forehead, taking Y/N’s face into her hands.
“You alright?” Ajack whispered. Y/N nodded with a small smile.
“I am now,” Y/N responded.
“I’m sorry,” Kingo said with a confused look, waving his hand between Y/n and Ajack. “When the hell did this happen?”
“Huh?” Y/N asked, even more confused than Kingo was. “When did what happen?”
“This!” He exclaimed, waving his hands around. “You two!”
“Nothing happened?” Y/N questioned. The were still confused, unsure what he was referring to. They’d done nothing differently than before.
“She’s being all touchy with you when all she has to do is wave her hand around to heal you!” Kingo said, waving his hand around exaggerated.
Y/N raised their eyebrow at Kingo, then at Ajak, whose face was not easy to read.
“I thought she did that with everyone? Is it not?”
“No!” Sersi exclaimed with a smile.
“Not once,” Druig said, then added on with a smirk. “But I wouldn’t mind.” Makkari was quick to smack him in the shoulder, signing to watch what he says in front of her. Druig signed back sorry with a softer smile than before.
“Oh,” Y/N whispered, trailing off. “What makes me so different?” Ajak shrugged.
✩ description: no matter what, through every memory wipe and new mission, y/n always seems to fall in love with ajak.
✩ request: Ajak never makes the first move because she doesn’t want to use the knowledge she has already to get reader to fall in love. Like, every time the memories are wiped, Ajak is terrified that reader won’t fall in love with her but they do every time. Bonus if the reasoning reader is in love is different every time. Like one time it’s Ajaks eyes that capture them and another time it’s her smile, etc.

SPOILERS!!
———
Longingly, Ajak glances at Y/N, who was speaking to Sersi happily, laughs and all, with admiration and slight hurt in her eyes. She thought about her past memories, on different planets and different missions, remembering the love they’d shared together. Without fail, Y/N would fall in love with Ajak, memory wipe after memory wipe. Planet after planet. Ajak remembers every bit of it. She remembers the look in Y/N’s eyes as she fell more and more in love with her once again. She remembers the way they’d admitted their feelings.
And somehow, every time, something different captures Y/N’s eyes that makes them fall in love with Ajak. On the planet before earth it had been Ajaks laugh that brought her in. On the planet before, her eyes. It was cliche, yes, but it was true. Every last bit of it.
On earth, Y/N has yet to fall in love with Ajak. It was bound to happen, one moment or another, but it’d been two centuries, and they still hadn’t. That worried Ajak. She refused to make the first move. With the knowledge she had, of past times Y/N had fallen in love, Ajak felt it would compromise everything.
Ajak feeling worried like this wouldn’t have been the first time. Every memory wipe, she’d worried Y/N wouldn’t fall in love with her. Every time, however, she did. Ajak knew that. Nothing would dull her anxiety of it all.
———
A loud *boom* echoed through the field, followed by loud groans of Eternals and mortal humans alike. There were many more humans injured than Eternals. Over 50 humans were injured in the loud blow of the explosion, with only 3 Eternals injured. Ajak, Y/N, and Druig were the 3. Ajak, almost immediately, was able to heal all of her injuries - internal and external - and was able to go help the other two.
Druig was closest, so that was who she’d scrambled to first. His injuries weren’t terrible, as he’d been far away from the blow, but still evident and painful. In a matter of seconds, all of his injuries had closed and healed, leaving him heaving to catch his breath on the ground.
Ajak’s eyes quickly scanned the ground, finally landing on Y/N’s body, limp and bloodied. She heard them groan in pain. In a hurried mess, Ajak went to Y/N, hovering over her like she did Druig.
“Oh no,” Ajak whispered. Their injuries were far worse than hers and Druig’s Her heart sunk. Ajak pulled Y/N up, their head soon resting on her lap to look up at her.
“Shhh,” Ajak whispered, soothingly caressing their head as she slowly healed their injuries, the pain draining away. “It’s okay, I’ve got you.”
Y/N’s ragged breath began to steady, as they stared up at her through their eyelashes. They couldn’t help but admire how pretty she looked while focused, her eyes filled with worry and love. Y/N’s heart began to beat faster and faster.
Request: Hey can I request a ajak x reader where reader is a flyer but gets shot out of the sky and really injured but they can’t find them so they all go looking and makkari finds them and then speeds to ajak to bring her to reader and reader is like really injured so ajak is really worried and heals them and then when they go home they cuddle all evening. Also I absolutely love your writing keep up the good work.
Pairings: Ajak x (Gender Neutral) Eternal!Reader
Warnings: Reader gets shot.
Note: Aww thank you! I did make one minor change, I hope that's alright with you <3
〰
"Don't worry! I'll be back before you know it!" I reassured Ajak.
She shook her head, "I don't know, (y/n). I have a very bad feeling about this!"
I gently pressed a kiss to her cheek, "I'll be fine, I promise."
And with that, I flew upwards into the sky, destroying the enemy aircrafts and dodging any incoming missiles that could cause more damage.
A sudden sharp pain on the side of my stomach stops me in my tracks. I look down to see blood flowing out but I don't let it stop me. It's only one wound, it can't hurt, right?
Just when I was about to continue, more bullets strike my body. I whimper in pain as I quickly try to spread out but they follow me.
The pain is unbearable to the point where i'm losing control of my flight. I breathe heavily and close my eyes, ready to strike the hard ground.
'I'm sorry, my dear Ajak. I wish we could've had more time together.' I think. Her smile is the last thing i'm thinking about, but then I feel a pair of arms swoop in and catch me.
"Makkari?" I furrow my brows, the sun blocking my view from the eternal's face.
Suddenly we stop and I see Ajak, her face lost in a look of furiosity and anxiety.
"I know this is not the time but-"
"You told me so." I reply, chuckling weakly.
Ajak shakily places her hand on my chest, her powers quickly working on me. The bullets start exiting my body as the injuries close up.
"Are you mad at me?" I ask Ajak.
She shook her head, "I was just worried, I knew something bad was going to happen and I should've tried my best to stop you."
"You didn't know. But look at me, i'm fine. And i'm still here with you." I sit up, gently taking her hands into mine.
"I thought I was going to die out there. You were the only thing on my mind." I smile softly at her, tucking in a strand of her hair behind her ear, "Next time i'll listen to you, okay? I promise."
Ajak nods, "You all should know by now that i'm always right."
We both chuckle, I press my forehead against hers and we stay like that for a moment.
Ikaris clears his throat, ruining the moment, "We cleared it out, it's safe again."
Ajak helps me up, "Then it's time to go home."
〰
"Ajaaaaak, come to bed!" I whine, holding my arms out for her.
"Will you calm down? I'm just going to wash my face and i'll be there." She replies.
Pretty soon, she comes out in her nightgown. Her hair and nightgown blowing gently in the wind.
I can't help but smile widely and shake my head, "You get more beautiful every single day. You know that, right?"
Ajak chuckles and crawls into my arms, "So do you." She whispers into my ear.
I hold her in my arms while she cuddles into my right side, "Were you scared today?" Ajak asks.
"Of course I was. But it wasn't about dying." I reply.
She furrows her eyebrows, "What do you mean?"
"I was scared I would leave you all alone and of the amount of pain my death would've caused you." I explain. Ajak's grip on me grows a bit more tighter, "Thank heavens Makkari saw you falling. I can't imagine living without you."
