Easier Said…
I truly believe with every ounce of my being that “it’s entirely okay for boys to express their innate girliness.” Believing that, making a caption about that, telling that while under the guise of a mostly anonymous pet name on an anonymous tumblr page and actually living and breathing it is completely different. And I absolutely hate that so much! It kills me that I’m not in a position to speak more freely, live more freely, and even protest more freely how much I believe this. Believe me, I have thought long and hard about it, the consequences, and the possibilities. I’ve wondered: “Am I being selfish by being so cloaked and not openly supporting and promoting girliness? Or would it be more selfish to be open and fail in regard to my family’s well-being and security? No matter how I think of it, I’m deeply invested in my family.
So, what about the statement itself? Is it okay for boys to express themselves in feminine ways? Absolutely. I trust that there is a generation rising over the horizon that will not only tolerate feminine boys, but will also support them. The days of being bullied, mistreated, ostracized, etc. are ending. A new day is coming. Boys who like being “manly” will be able to be manly in right and good ways. Girls who wish to be girly will be able to be girly in whatever ways they wish. Some girls will be able to be as manly as they want and some boys will be able to be as girly as they want. And if someone wants to push through surgeries and therapy to become more aligned with their being, it will be as important to one’s development as one’s birth, graduation, or wedding. I’m sure that there will be titles and labels, but the emphasis on those will begin to vanish. We will all be human, distinct, unique, authentic, transparent.
Maybe it’s a pipe dream. But it will never get there unless we can develop a sense of personal worth and confidence to be who we are in our innermost being–and be entirely okay with it, for ourselves and for others.
That’s all that I’m going to say at this time–well, other than to say once again how much i love you all. You are my sisters, my friends, my happiness. Keep being you. Keep loving you–all of you.
