Tyrus + Nemesis
*spoiler alert*
Okay, so we all know how Tyrus stabbed Nemesis in the heart, right? I have multiple theories (with lots of gaps in them)
Theory 1: Tyrus ain’t actually Tyrus. We all know how they can modify looks and shit right? When Nemesis comes back and first sees Tyrus, she notices that Tyrus has started using beauty bots to alter his appearance- and he used view beauty bots with distaste. He could’ve gotten someone to become him, told that person every detail, and then he fled, but it’s unlikely because Tyrus as a character, would not do something like that. Also, it shows him even controlling the steering rings on the dress and other technology. Just an unlikely theory, with lots of holes and flaws in it.
Theory 2: Tyrus is under some kind of mind control shit. Okay, so we see that they can make someone love another, therefore controlling their minds. For example, the diabolic bond (Nemesis was bonded to sidonia, loved her, etc) They’re obviously scientifically advanced enough to alter someone’s mind. This is also unlikely, but it’s still a theory.
(not actually a theory): if Tyrus did actually fall victim to Venalox, and there’s no cure, that’s an end to Tymesis (my made up ship name for Tyrus + Nemesis) There’s no coming back for what he did- stabbing her in the heart. If the venalox is permanent, then we have defientely and totally lost Tyrus. Tyrus is officially gone. Forever.
Now, these two theories are far reaches, but I’ve been agonizing and hoping that tymesis still has a chance. It’s amazing what my brain can reach for in distress. I honestly hope these turn out to be true because I honestly loved Tyrus and my heart broke when he stabbed Nemesis in the heart.
First of all forget my stupid name I made this account as a joke ages ago and idk how to change its name and its the one I use so anyway
I don’t think so actually, what if the scepter is taking over him? I mean SJ literally wrote sth really similar to that I mean he actually thought malignant space was beautiful THATS NOT THE SAME TYRUS WHO FAKED MADNESS FOR YEARS SO HE CAN GET A THRONE SO HE CAN GET RID OF STAGNATION!! read back to when he inserts the scepter into his skin, SJ wrote “He just gazed at my face, and when I met his eyes, he seemed as though he was gazing into another world, caught in some thought.”
And then Nemesis says that the real scepter is what makes Domitirians Domitirians, so what if that means is that it plays with their minds and makes them killers and all that (not that I’m saying they were good beforehand), and the way Tyrus acted in general right after it was inserted was odd, go back and read the book carefully after that and notice the difference.
Also SJ never mentions sth with no reason, she said that earth is now populated by cyborgs and shit and that didn’t do anything for the story in the empress really, so what if in the next book Nemesis remembers that and she takes Tyrus to earth so he can be him again because the scepter took over?
Same thing that happened with the black hole thing
That's a great theory!! That makes sense and I've never really thought about that lmao
neveni and anguish???
here are some quotes about anguish and neveni :
"Then they mercifully left me to stumble through the jostling ship, in search of the alchohol they wanted. They'd both gone utterly insane." Before this, neveni and anguish were having a discussion that led to the topic of insects. Neveni teases anguish about his 'fear' of insects, and jokes that she'll smash his spiders for him. Neveni and anguish both left to find alcohol, but me? I want to know everything that happened in that scene, I'm curious.
"I will not risk the little girl." (The Empress, Chapter 37) anguish talking about neveni
"His eyes snapped with warning. "If you are hinting at me torturing her into obedience-" (The Empress, Chapter 37) anguish being hostile at the thought of torturing neveni
"If you lay a finger on her, Nemesis dan Impyrean, I will return the pain to you fivefold." (The Empress, Chapter 37) anguish threatening nemesis if she hurts neveni
"Neveni told him. "I was making a point that you're enormous and terrifying." I'd swear he looked flattered." (The Empress, Chapter 37) obviously anguish enjoys neveni callig him 'enormous and terrifying'
"She turned to Anguish. "You stop her." (The Empress, Chapter 37) anguish, the diabolic, apparently now takes orders from neveni
"A scream ripped from my lips and I surged for her. She reared back, lips blazing in a feral grin, but a pair of enormous arms, heavy with muscles, locked around me. Oh. Oh, him. Anguish." (The Empress, Chapter 51) anguish obviously cares for the safety of neveni, and this is three years after they met.
"Anguish and Neveni returned. She plucked up the glas bottle, studied me. "So I once got him to drink a whole bottle, and I swear, he was giggly. Can you imagine. A bit scary, actually. You?" (The Empress, Chapter 51) Neveni got anguish to drink an entire bottle of whiskey, suggesting that they must be pretty close if she can convince him to drink an entire bottle. We all know how diabolics are paranoid about danger, if anguish started giggling, the alcohol must have really affected him, as usually he's very serious. If it affected him that much, that shows he is comfortable enough with neveni that he could do that in front of her. We remember that when neveni and anguish went to search for alchohol, only neveni drank it. OR here's another theory- remember how diabolic's can't exactly get drugged? That's probably the same with alcohol. If a diabolic drank an entire bottle of whiskey, I don't think they would be affected. Maybe, just maybe, anguish faked the giggling? Maybe so neveni would feel better about something? Who knows, it's just a badly put together theory. Or maybe he just doesn't care what happens to him anymore now that cygna is dead.
"Neveni startled awake when I kicked the foot of her bed- and next to her, Anguish opened his eyes lazily, a subtle tension in his great muscles told me he was poised to spring and break me apart if necessary... But for now, he wanted to lounge in bed." (The Empress, Chapter 51) it seems to me that anguish is prepared to attack nemesis if she does anything hostile to neveni. Neveni was startled awake, and anguish was now poised to spring. That sounds to me like he's really protective of neveni.
All these quotes show that anguish is somewhat attached to neveni- enough to care about her wellbeing. Since we missed out on three years, we can only guess what type of relationship they have. Is it romantic? Is it platonic? Or am I simply imagining things? Anguish threatened Nemesis multiple times if she laid a finger on neveni. This shows that he's protective of neveni. Why? Are they simply friends... or romantic partners? We have had three years of missing information, anything could've happened in those three years. Neveni even has a scar across her face. Anguish is obviously attached to Neveni, so we can only wonder what took place in those three years. But maybe, I'm reading too much into everything. After all, Nemesis does say they'd both gone utterly insane... neveni lost all her family and friends, her home... anguish lost the woman he was bonded too... maybe they're just two people, who're so done with everything that they just stick together because they're so similar? Both are grieving (even if one might not realize it) we all know people like to be around others who are similar to them (mostly) so what if they only reasoned they're attached to each other is because there's nobody else for them, except the other, who also has nobody else? Whatever it is, I like it. I like the idea of anguish and neveni, having a solid relationship (or as solid as they can get)

Foreshadowing
*spoilers for the empress*
"She told me eagerly about all the theories she was reading. “There was this extraordinary explanation about why time itself is distorted the closer one gets to a black hole. I’d never really examined why that might happen before, but . . ." (The Diabolic, Chapter 37)
Okay. So the part where Nemesis and Tyrus go near the black hole and time slows, etc? And they didn't know that? Well SJ Kincaid foreshadowed this in book one, and all of us either didn't notice it, skimmed over it, or forgot it. But she fucking told us that (eventhough it's a theory) "time itself is distorted the closer one gets to a black hole" and when in the empress, we see nemesis and tyrus approach one, we didn't even fucking anticipate it. And when it's mentioned that the interdicts don't age, it never occurred to us that they were near a black hole.
