Been awhile since I checked in. I’ve been busy moving in with my partner. Things are starting to settle down, and I’ve just been so incredibly happy? Tomorrow is my 4 year anniversary of moving to LA. I’m overcome with a profound sense of gratitude for everything encompassed in my tiny little life. These years have been utterly transformative. I am on a resplendent path of self discovery. Hello! It’s been a while. I realized I haven’t been super active lately and haven’t really updated what I’m up to. In the last couple years I’ve been bouncing around from Central Park, to The Great North, to Bob’s Burgers as an animator. It looks like I’m on Bob’s for the foreseeable future. I even did a bit of animating on the movie coming out in May! I’m so grateful to be working for BentoBox. On a separate note, I’m hoping to start making more personal art for myself. It’s crazy how much of a difference a year can make. In 2019 I was starting my job on Bojack. I woefully packed up my apartment in Portland, not wanting to leave the life I had there, but needing to. In 2020, after visiting Oregon for a couple weeks over the holidays, I realized I was ready to go back to “real life,” my job, my house, my journey in California. I don’t think I can really explain to you how important season 06 Episode 10, “Good Damage,” was to me. We were in the middle of union negotiations, my personal life was in shambles, and I was barely able to do anything beyond exist. I had never dealt with depression before. I was struggling. And then we started working on S06E10. What I saw in the finished animatic, during Diane’s attempts to write her book, was exactly the type of journey I was on. I couldn’t concentrate. I gained weight. Every memory felt foggy. I felt isolated. I was struggling to be happy, to trust happiness. What if all this pain I went through wasn’t worth it? What if it wasn’t Good Damage!? And magically, in one part of one episode of TV I suddenly felt less alone. I felt seen. Diane isn’t real, but in those dire moments, she was to me. Those lovingly animated depression sequences carried me through last year, and now it’s out in the world. Well, it’s pretty late, but I finally made my 2019 year in review image.
