Yeah I don't think I'll be taking it anonymous xx
Jonathan Byers is who Snape stans want Snape to be
No matter how much I complain about the finale I still loved it deeply.
Because I watched the characters from the show I watched since I was 13 graduate in the same year that I will be graduating from high school. The characters that comforted me when I was being bullied for being different, when I suffered severe depression, when I literally couldn't bring myself to eat, when I hated myself so deeply and would get panic attacks in school—those characters grew up with me.
Maybe it's nostalgia, or bias, but I can't imagine getting the fantastic fight with vecna and the mindflayer if it meant I didn't get that hour of epilog that made me realise that this year will truly be my year. Not marks, or my peers, or the fucking school that makes me so miserable.
And I still believe that some part of it wasn't written by the duffer brothers lol, but I digress
I'm waiting for all the pjotv episodes to come out before I watch it so prepare for a review
I'm expecting it to be better than season one considering the fact that there's so much promotion for it. I just hope they repair the damage from season 1
In every single lumax scene, you can see me in the corner crying my eyes out
The treatment of Eleven from Byler shippers is problematic
It's no doubt that Byler is one if the most popular ships in the stranger things fandom, with so many people that were rooting for it to become canon in season 5. However, in order for Byler to happen, El and Mike needed to break up.
Now, I've never shipped Byler before, BUT Eleven is one of my favorites in the show, and I've always rooted for her to have her happy ending with Mike. The treatment towards El's character is really concerning to me, and obviously, it is not all Byler fans, but it is enough for it to be almost the entire fan base.
A main argument that people use to oppose Mileven is that Mike and El got together when she could "barely speak and understand anything" and because of that she was practically forced into a relationship with Mike without knowing what a relationship was. People furthermore say that Mike and El should have broken up so that El could become independent and find herself. First of all, I think we should address why Eleven is the way she is. We know from season 4 that her struggle with speech and identifying certain things, relationships, people, etc, is not because Dr Brenner and the people in the lab did not teach her, but because of her intense PTSD from the incident with One. In season 4, when we see Eleven go back into her memories and mimic her child self, she is talking perfectly. Eleven also, despite learning how to speak and interact with others again, is somewhat knowledgeable and mature. She realizes that she was in danger the moment she escaped–hell she was smart enough to escape a facility like that. She acknowledges that she could get others in trouble too, which we see with Benny, and when she tells Mike that the 'bad men' are after her. However, before the kiss scene in S1, El does not know what a boyfriend is, which is realistic because I doubt that the people in a lab that intended to keep you there forever were gonna tell her what a boyfriend or girlfriend is. So when Bylers still use the reason above as to why El shouldn't be in a relationship with Mike, it feels infantilizing and ableist.
Eleven has had three character arcs where she is infact separated from Mike— season 2, where she goes to find her mom, and then Kali, season 3 where she discovers her style as a girl with the help of Max, and finally season 4 where El goes back to the lab due to her fear of being a monster. She has been separated from Mike 3 TIMES, where she has made independent decisions and discovered herself. Why do you want her to break up with Mike then?? And even if these characters' arcs did not happen, El should be allowed to find herself and have a boyfriend. You don't have to have one or the other. In fact, Mike has always helped El in her journey of self-discovery, and El has helped him.
I feel like these takes, despite it coming from those who claim they love El, have become borderline misogynistic and ableist. It's okay to like a ship, but to claim mileven is toxic and then provide evidence that is based in demeaning Eleven is not right.
Things that I believe the duffer brothers should have changed about season 5 (as someone who liked the finale regardless)
● Jonathan's character arc should have revolved around his relationship with Joyce instead of his "rivalry" with Steve. We constantly see Joyce favour Will over Jonathan, she should have been confronted about it and realise what she did was wrong.
● El and Will should have had more screentime TOGETHER (maybe with kali too). They're literally parallels of each other, brother and sister. They should have spent more time together as El is quite literally the only one that understands him
● El, Will and Kali should have taken down Vecna together—the theory that they are the key to defeat Vecna because all of their numbers (1+11+8) add up to 20, which is the number Erica rolls to defeat Vecna in Eddie's campaign. Like it's such good foreshadowing, why wasn't it taken advantage of?? Like imagine Kali using her powers to make Vecna envision things from his past, making him weak and vulnerable and less likely for the mind flayer to keep his hold on Henry.
● To add to the previous take, they should have included more from the First Shadow play. Like what was the point of saying that the play has extreme relevance to the story—only for you to take one aspect from it and then make Henry from the show completely different from him in the play?? Hopper and Joyce should have realized that Vecna is Henry Creel and should have used it to their advantage—which would let the audience see the human side of Vecna that we see in the play. Like imagine if they mentioned Patty, that would have been insane.
● El's character arc this season should have been about fighting to finally end the cycle so that she could finally find peace. My girl has been abused, traumatized to the point where she lost her memory and speech, hunted down, threatened—she doesn't deserve to be treated like a plot device that has to die for the other characters developments. She should have fought to live. She's only wanted peace her entire life. So here's what I think should've happened : after a few weeks from El's "death," she contacts Hopper in the void. She reveals that she escaped to Iceland with the help of Doctor Owens. When we get to the scene with Mike and Hopper on the bench, Hopper, offhand, mentions the waterfalls in Iceland with a smile - making Mike rethink everything. This way, we know for sure that El is alive and that she definitely would not be alone because Mike will look for her, and even if he doesn't, Hopper will definitely visit her.
● Vecna/the mind flayer should have fought back harder. Like the Abyss is literally it's home turf, they should have hit them with everything they had—which would have been fought back against by Will controlling the demos, and El and Kali killing some as well. This way it would have felt less anticlimactic.
● I kind of like the green dragon theory, I don't know much about DnD to explain how I think it should have went but it would have been insane to see that the big bad they have been expecting to fight for years was actually something so much worse
● Max and El should have had a proper reunion. El literally restarted her heart because she refused to let her die, and you gave them such a crappy reunion bro
I still think they cut some parts... TFS was fundamental, so they said, but instead it wasn't used. Everything they said in the interviews turned out to be false. I don't understand what happened. The match was also important, but then they changed the ending because they no longer wanted to redeem Henry as previously decided. I don't understand why these choices... I just know that we're having a weak season... (for the Green Dragon, I don't know much about D&D... but it would have been nice to see that the Mindflyer was just a parasite but the real evil was this dragon) and also Vecna and the Mindflyer... they should have fought more actively. Instead, this is also disappointing... I don't know... they say that some parts were cut, but I don't know if that's true. I just know that they didn't keep things confirmed in the interviews that would have made the season better...
Honestly I agree, I have a feeling these plot points were created by the other writers and the duffer brothers just failed to expand on that. Like the amount of stuff promoted to us that was cut is actually disappointing
and when i say the first shadow is infinitely better than stranger things season 5 and this season strongly lacks kate’s ideas and reeks of the absence of women in the writers room 🚬🙂↕️
kate trefry the writer you are…
Lowkey
Conformity gate reminds me of rapturetok
i feel like bylers forget that queer people, specifically gay men, are not the only “freaks” or outcasts like the show talks about
what about rovickie? i guarantee you they don’t care as much about it because it’s wlw instead of mlm, and use “they’re not main characters” as an excuse to not seem misogynistic
what about neurodivergent and disabled people? no one tried to understand mike in s4 or 3 because he was masking, missing social cues, and, here’s a big claim, not focused on will. and dustin? some people really just gloss over him because they can’t find him attractive like the other characters or they find him annoying because he’s not like the other characters and el? brain damage and ptsd represented in a fmc!! and she’s not a pushover about it - she gets angry
what about poc? lucas has a whole book dedicated to the racism in hawkins, and people only use it for that one excerpt that shows mike’s depression to somehow proof mike’s codependent on will to be happy
what about women? robin, karen, el, kali, joyce, max, vickie - they’re all complex female characters, with stories and arcs (maybe not vickie but she’s a lady and i love her so she goes on the list)
it’s so aggravating!! bylers spread their “this is a show for freaks” rhetoric, but don’t stick to it the second a ship between two white, cis men isn’t canon!
This is why I don't like conformity gate because why is it only conformity that your mlm ship didn't happen?? If conformity gate did happen then Max and Lucas wouldn't be together, Nancy would probably still be in a relationship, Will wouldn't be in a gay bar talking to another guy!!

Your Black Percabeth art is so so near and dear to my heart, I love it so much <333
Aww thank you!!
Bugs when you lift up a rock
Why do yall think that a relationship between a disabled girl and a boy that has been deeply bullied for his appearance is conservative/conforming
