OKAY. SO. i was re-reading cinderella boy (its an unhealthy obsession, i re-read it every week at this point,) and i noticed something that i didn't really pay attention to before. (THIS IS WHY WE RE-READ!!!) basically, i have read many theories about how buddy may be taking naratonin from chase, and I've always thought that the people that wrote these theories had a good point. so here's my contribution to that theory: when i was re-reading, i saw something strange (?) in episode 23, at the end of the episode buddy says "maybe this one will be useful after all." when referring to chase. he said this after realizing that chase wasn't really giving up.
mega suspicious of buddy, because WDYM?!?!? we know that at first, all that buddy was trying to do is take silver from chase, but that's really all, until they became friends. (and more than friends.) in episode 39, in buddy's dream, when he is trying to escape wherever he's at, (i'm guessing its the ex libris library,) he has to throw a clock into a mirror so he can escape, except he sees chase's reflection in it. (mb for stating the obvious, gotta give context 😔) before he throws the clock at chase, he says this:
i think that this whole scene symbolizes him having to hurt chase. not literally, (no beating up chase this time!) but more as where he is doing something that harms chase so he can be able to turn into a human again. i think that what he is doing is taking chase's naratonin, because in episode 45, we see silver and bronze right after chase and deacon finish a story, except deacon got like 3x the amount of naratonin that chase did.
and personality-wise, this doesn't make much sense since chase is the fun one that goes with the flow, so he would probably enjoy the book more. HMM. i don't think i actually pointed out anything new, this is more just a theory post for me to really think about what i read for the past 47 re-reads 😖
