"Sorry I can't, I'm busy"
Me being busy:
For anyone wondering, the PhD student's name is Myra Cheng.
Here's a link to an article about the study from the Stanford Report: link.
Across three preregistered studies, participants interacting with sycophantic AI became more convinced of their own rightness and less willing to repair relationships. Yet at the same time, participants rated sycophantic AI models as higher quality, more trustworthy, and more desirable for future use, which may explain why this behavior has persisted despite its harmful impacts.
Myra Cheng et al. "Sycophantic AI decreases prosocial intentions and promotes dependence." Science 391, eaec8352 (2026).
the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be apart of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.
a CRITTER? Carrying a BERRY?? Across a BRAMBLE VINE?????
I heard it was that time of year again.
thinking again about how S2 set us up for Persuasion: our heroine, ruled by feelings of guilt and familial obligation, rejects her heart's companion. separated by years, the lovers reunite without immediately reconciling: they're made to work through misunderstanding, to pine and hope and wonder, have their feelings changed?
and of course, we know our heroes are true-hearted, because that's the confidence the genre allows us. they just need a little time to figure things out together.
I guess the writers didn't read Austen.
Based on a true story
super old art in light of the finale! i drew these for my gomens zine but never posted them.
oh hello there!
Sorry but I do not have an inability to accept endings - I have an inability to accept bad endings.
I’m not trying to see the ending as bad on purpose - I desperately wanted it to be good and would have happily settled for mediocre.
It’s not that I don’t get what they were trying to do - I see it perfectly, and also how they failed to achieve it or understand the implications of their own narrative choices.
To criticise this ending is not a failure of intelligence, character or good will. I’m very happy you liked the ending. Don’t treat me like I’m stupid just because I don’t.
Rengency omens!
my most sick and twisted fantasy
just updated my about page for the first time since 2020 if anyone is interested at all! it's been so long that i fear i am simply speaking into the void at this point
I just saw someone say "there is no ethical consumption under capitalism" as an argument for boycotting AO3
Babe AO3 is a nonprofit. They do not exist under the ethics of capitalism. Fanfiction is legal because no money is ever exchanged around it. (All the money given to AO3 is used to maintain their servers and pay their lawyers to help keep fanfiction legal.)
Fanfiction is one of the few things in this world - probably the one singular form of entertainment that does not exist within the confines of capitalism. So by your own logic, even if you hate some of the content on AO3, it's inherently the only ethical thing to consume in the whole world.
