Kevin Hart, Chris Rock (back to camera) and Jay Z backstage at Madison Square Garden after the first of two sold out Hart appearances at the arena.
Photo taken by David Lee in a snowy Fort Greene Park back in 1988. Part of a photo session for the book jacket of my book The Death of Rhythm & Blues. The first snow of this winter falling outside inspired this blast from the past. I miss that leather fedora hat!
Some of Sandy's nasty handiwork on a car next to Brooklyn Tech High School in Brooklyn.
Finally coming out of my place after the hurricane I noticed a huge bounty of mushrooms popping out of a tree in Fort Greene Park. Apparently they'd been there before but the recent weather has really increased their number. Nature rolls on.
This morning in Sundance, Utah. Robert Redford's resort is a lovely place to study, workshop and learn. It is a great place to hike too if you enjoy shortness of breath.
Enjoyed a snowy morning in Sundance, Utah before heading back to the Big Apple today. Had an amazing time at the New Frontier work shop held by the Sundance Institute. I can now kinda define "transmedia," but please don't test me.
That's me with New York Knicks' great Walk 'Clyde' Frazier. I recently filmed a short film for ESPN's 30 for 30 on Clyde's unique clothing style and on air vocabulary as a Knicks' broadcaster. The piece will run on lline some time during the NBA season.
Even next week in Harlem highlighting several web series including Left Unsaid, which I shot two years ago. Belinda Becker and Tigist Selam, who both performed in the 19 part series, will be there along with moi.
I've been shooting this doc all summer, trying to both tell the history of funk and looka t its present and future. I have talked to some of my idols (Maceo Parker, Boosty Collins, Sly Stone), long time friends (Nile Rodgers, Mtume, Mike D) and discover some new talents (Dam Funk, Novena Carmel, Lettuce.) Hope you can support us in finishing Finding the Funk!
New can see the Nets practice court from inside the Barclay's Starbucks. Have a chai latte and watch Deron Williams run the break. Looking forward to that.
Detail of Barclay Center from inside the new Starbucks. Getting use to the new Brooklyn landmark.
At Miss Lilly's Variety with two of my favorite people -- actress/DJ Belinda Becker and actress/writer Tigist Selam. We all worked together on the web series Left Unsaid (www.leftunsaidseries.com) in 2009. Tigist and I just shot a feature film, Migrations, that I hope to have ready in 2013. Belinda will be appearing with the Brooklyn International Theater company in the 'BK Literary Mash Up' at BAM's Fisher building on Dec. 10. For details on the play go to BAM.org.
I snapped a shot of Zadie Smith reading at Brooklyn's Greenlight Bookstore, a few blocks from where Jay-Z did the first show at the Barclay Center. I really wanted to see Zadie. I've seen Jay quite a few times, but this my first time seeing this gifted British novelist and it was well worth it. Quite a funny reader, who actually acts out her character voices. Enjoyed her latest 'NW'. Check it out.
Taken by Kimberly Wang in August 2012, just days before my birthday, in an West Village park off Barrow Street. A peaceful moment in an hectic city.
With Walt 'Clyde' Frazier, #10 of the New York Knicks, at his tailor in NYC.
