This is the 'hub' for Northeast Ohio (and surrounding areas) Furries! Here, you'll be able to find ways to connect with other furries near you in Ohio no matter what social platform you use. The hub is run by Ally, who runs the NEO Furs Telegram group and the Twitter! Ally also co-manages the Facebook group with Tony.

A Warning

Connor is banned from Anthrocon and has been banned from Anthrohio events. He has a laundry list of allegations against him from former friends, partners, and local Columbus furries.

Disclaimer

The NEO Furs groups I run are not the end-all, be-all of northeast Ohio furry groups. Nor have they ever been. Over the years, there have been splinter groups, those who broke off from other groups to create their own with more like-minded people.

This is totally normal and has always been a thing that’s in anyone’s power to do.

What I want the ‘official’ groups to be are hubs where anyone can search for ‘cleveland furries’ or ‘akron furries’ or ‘furries in northeast ohio’ and come up with one of these sites (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr) and find the list of groups they can join from there.

After all, there are 390 members in the Facebook group. There’s another 83 in the Telegram group. There’s people on Twitter, as well. There is overlap, too, but to think that NEO Furs could be run as one cohesive unit would be like thinking you could herd cats.

I’ve been around since the mailing list (heck, I still OWN the mailing list!) and I’ve watched groups break off numerous times over the years. I’ve watched new groups pop up despite the ‘official’ group being accessible. It’s impossible to keep everything in one place, socially. So I think the list and keeping up on the prominent social media sites is a good middle ground! 

Folks can see what’s going on, what groups they want to interact with, and if new things pop up, I will add them as I become aware of them (you can always submit a new group via an ask or the submit link!).

Basically: I am not ‘in charge’ of the NEO Furs, though I run the main groups for it. My focus is helping new folks find their way to the various NEO Furs groups if they’re looking for local furries or meets.

Wikifur

Spent some time updating the NEO Furs Wikifur page. It was really outdated and I think the only active community on there was the Facebook pages! So hopefully things are easier to find and navigate there now.

Got an event happening?

While there are often events posted to the Facebook group well in advance, I am going to restrict posting events here unless it’s happening WITHIN A MONTH of the posting. 

Otherwise, event posts will become lost or they will get forgotten.

If you’d like me to share an event here, please send an Ask or Submit your event to us! Make sure the page you’re listing it on is public, as well! Otherwise, some folks might not be able to see if they want to attend.

Is this even necessary?

Well....not REALLY. But over the last couple months I’ve been contacted by furries off of Facebook (where the main NEO Furs stuff is located) being shocked that there were ANY furries in the Kent State University area. 

There are! There’s a bunch! 

But when I direct them to Facebook to join the group, the response is “I don’t have a Facebook” (which probably means they have a PERSONAL Facebook account and don’t wish to mingle iRL and fandom together; not everyone wants to manage two accounts, after all). 

So then I’ll rattle off all the other places I can remember there being furry groups at. “Well I run the Telegram group for the Facebook group.” “I think there’s a group on FurAffinity, but I don’t know how active it is.” “There’s an Ohiofurs website, but it’s mainly Columbus.”

That gets tedious. 

Now I can point people here and go “Hey! These are all the local furry groups I know of on the sites I can find. I hope you find something that suits you!”.
