Thoth sat on the edge of the cliff, that same cliff that heās known for aeons, the glow of his cigarette tip slowing glowing dimmer. His shoulders sagged, but not with the weight of his fading body, rather with the memories that gripped him, unwilling to go. Anu was there, exuding a sense of serenity, his eyes locked in his with a knowledge that stretched beyond time itself. There was something between them, something heavy, yet filled with relief, a relief that the end would bring forth a peace that he has yearned for so long. For Thoth, this was real, whatās happening now, it is real. But Anuās words were comforting, that this weight, itās no longer a burden, just a mere echo of a sting that no longer burns.
Thoth: āItās time, isnāt it? I never have enough time.ā
Anu: āDoesnāt matterā¦time that is, not where weāre going at least.ā
Thoth: āIām tired. Itāsā¦heavyā
Anu: āJust this moment youāre feeling. Every moment gone has come back. Donāt think of it as a weight. They will become one with you.ā
Thoth: āFunny you chose to come as Bob, I almost forgot about him. Itās been almost 70 years since last we spoke.ā
Anu: āHe never leftā¦just waiting for this moment. There are a few others waiting. It wonāt take long at all.ā
Thoth: āOkā¦just one more cigarette.ā
Anu: āTake all the time you need.ā
As he took that last drag of his cigarette and watched the smoke curl up towards the night sky, Thoth reached out to Anu. āOk, Iām readyā.Ā And, with Anuās nod, they stepped into that place where time no longer mattered.
