Insane things are happening on Trigun Twitter today
Caught up on Gundam Witch from Mercury b4 the new episode. Holy fucking shit.
āO No Spiderverse Romanceā
As this is quickly becoming an account I write small vent pieces in (Anton Ego was correct, they are fun to read and to write) I figured Iād give my two cents on the reveal of a romance subplot in the new Spiderverse movie coming up. Unfortunately everything I want to say can be summed up with the following questions regarding a lot of the outcry.
Did no one else watch the trailer?
Did no one else watch the previous movie??
Has no one else watched the previous Spider-Man movies???
Does no one else know what a Spider-Man story is?????
I can understand thinking itās an unnecessary creative choice, or being disappointed that itās going to play a role at all. Regarding Hollywood movies thereās a long conversation to be had with how romance is implemented and especially the role gender plays in it. But I donāt think the correct decision is to throw your hands up in the air and poison the discussion well withĀ ābut remember Voltron??ā Yes I do, but hereās the cool thing about Voltron, it had a completely different production context. The circumstances behind the creation of Voltron Legendary Defenders and Spiderman Across the Spiderverse are completely different. Discussions like this one of the reasons I cannot stand how animation is discussed online because 90% of the time you have people with massive followings talking about production staff the same way the angry video game nerd talks about bootleg NES games. Enough of this, thatās not how this works.Ā
My siblingsā reaction to 1931 Dracula.
Below is a list of reactions they had in no particular order. The movie wasnāt really their thing but they enjoyed the experience regardless:
-They yassified Johnathan Harker
-Where the fuck is Quincey?Ā
-Are the armadillos and bees Quincey representation?
-Jesus christ this movie is so slow
-This movie is just people convincing each other
-Bela Legosiās stance is really funny
-Why tf do they have everyone wandering around this one house the whole movie?
-It would be really funny if the old man with a shotgun whoās calling everyone crazy just took care of Dracula as a big bat by sheer accident.
-This movie has no ending.
Ganon.
You can generally see how a particular fan of older anime engages with media by how bad they react to the trailers for Trigun Stampede. Bad reactions being stuff likeĀ āBut whereās the small black cat that scampered around??? It hasnāt got its own cast listing like the main characters of the story had in the trailer??? Ruined, will not be watching!!ā
Like come on man, Trigun wasnāt good because of Kuroneko. Implying various levels ofĀ ācharacter gone, show badā is conspiratorial levels of numb that makes zero sense from a creativity standpoint and to imply otherwise implies a lack of understanding as to what made that property special in the first place. This applies to any reinterpretation of media after it has had enough time to settle.
Reblogging this today because itās probably relevant again seeing how older anime fans on my twitter timeline are either rejoicing that people are discussing the entirety of Trigun again through the lens of this cool new thing, or are self destructing because their 20+ year old Toonami memories are being challenged. Also Iām reworking this sentiment into a longer piece that might be a modest article size or a video or something.
I typed a thought about the dumb Chainsaw Man petition thatās circulated (ignore said petition, itās dumb).
Chainsaw Man fans signing a petition demanding the anime be redone following the manga to a slavish degree lead to me chewing on a several adaptation trends within the Japanese animation industry. Not just that yeah, no matter how impressive and self defining an adaptation, a culture of anime fans thatāve been won over by panel by panel adaptations from at least the last decade, will in fact, hate when anything different is presented no matter how impressive. This non-issue is surprisingly layered though, because itās not a pandering necessarily, but instead directors thinking differently than the original source, and that in of itself being considered blasphemy. Complaints likeĀ āwhy is the composition of this shot differentā orĀ āwhy is this characterās expression not manga accurateā come from the fact that literal tracings are impossible without getting the production destroyed (which yeah, is why subtle differences are made when referencing pages from the manga source material in any adaptation, because they have the rights to use and reference the manga, not trace it, (see the word: adapt)).Ā
Ā Ā Ā Dr. Stoneās anime comes to mind for example, which is manga accurate, sure, but (to me, my opinion) creates a stronger identify through additional aspects like music and voice acting making a lot of the animation depending on the scene, feel superfluous (note: Dr. Stone is difficult to adapt for different reasons than CSM, obvious I know but itās just an example regarding animation). Contrast that with something like Yu Yu Hakusho or Urusei Yatsura (1981), generally agreed to be good adaptations that have their own distinct identities from the manga that, if the current form of any kind of social media were around back then, would get the same treatment from so calledĀ ādevoted fansā of their favorite entertainment. Different doesnāt mean bad, and I for one welcome more adaptations of manga not being tied too much to their source material because, hello, itās being adapted to animation. Do I even get into how layouts across the anime industry have become something of a dying art across the board? Or how adapting a manga page by page can be used in order to, please fans sure (if Iām being generous), but also lighten the load of any production? Or how following the manga does not mean it will inherently work in animation to begin with? Weāre observing the same kind ofĀ ātrue fanā backlash with the new Trigun. This aināt new and it doesnāt mean anything. Just typed this to get my thoughts on a page or something I guess.
Christmastime lmao.
I donāt know why I made this.

Probably Last Post!!
Ā Ā Well, itās been real. But in case anyone still follows this blog, thank you for entertaining me for these several years. I can quite confidently say that they havenāt been too boring. Iāve just set up a Twitter if you care to follow. But I havenāt customized anything yet. So, itāll be up and running soon, but itāll be pretty bare bones until then.
So, until we meet again, stay gold!

LMAO Nice try past Andrew.
*Reads posts I made in the span of time before I left* Oh christ is that how I used to type? oh my god.
Aw man, remember when I thought it couldnāt get worse for the general state of things in 2018??? Well Iām back to post musings about the state of things (mainly animation) into the wind if I feel like it, as I feel this place might become slightly crowded again.Ā
Oh man I havenāt used this account in a while. I feel like an archaeologist with not but a profile picture of L from Death Note for warmth.
