A proper streetcar or tram has dedicated lanes that eliminate the possibility of being stuck in traffic, if there is one big thing I will criticise American Streetcars of it's the lack of dedicated lanes in many systems

How is this better than the el. An el is faster because it can take straight lines to where it's going, instead of having to follow a street.

Metros or els should work in conjunction with streetcars, they both have their uses, a streetcar is for shorter distance trips in an urban core while metros are more for cross town trips. Also streetcars are way cheaper to build compared to metros.
