I’m back!

I’ve spent nearly two years gone to to adjusting to life in college, but now that I’ve started an FRC team and mentor an FTC team as well, I’ve got lots more to start posting again!

I have to brag on FIRST for a minute

I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Cow Town Throwdown offseason event this weekend- and coming from Mississippi to Missouri has been a pretty extreme transition for me- and the amount of welcoming I got from the volunteers putting on the event and everyone involved was just amazing. Knowing I'll always have a home wherever I go because of the FIRST community is an amazing thing

Today I witnessed an FTC kid take a frame with motors attached and dangle it from the wires... as a former electrical lead I don't think I've ever been closer to a heart attack in my life

To the robotics kids who:

Just graduated- You did it! Yes, it’s incredibly exciting to be starting college and to move onto the next chapter of your life, and yet so sad to others to be leaving their team they’ve known for so long. When you go off, don’t forget where you came from, where you learned so much and gained a family like no other, and most importantly remember to GIVE BACK! Support the team that created you and helped you get so incredibly far in life. Even if you can’t be there in person as a mentor, spread the word, find another team in you area to mentor, just stay in love with our sport for the mind! And keep in touch! This is a family for life, and they were there for you in high school and will be there for you after.

Are now seniors- This is it.. the pressure is on full force, it’s your final year, so make it worth it. Cherish all of your “lasts”. Your last team meal, your last kickoff, your last competition as a student team member. Don’t be upset, cherish all the memories you have and the family you’ve gained forever. Don’t lose sight of the team that helped make you who you are.

Are the sophomores and juniors- you’ve made it this far, now don’t give up. You’re the treasured ones, the ones who don’t know it all, but know enough. You’ve got training under your belt that makes you incredibly valuable, and you need to keep up the hard work. Your time to shine is here and enjoy ever moment of the stress the seniors are going to throw onto you. It’ll pay off, I promise. Keep up the hard work.

Are Freshmen- oh boy, you don’t know what you’re in for. You may or may not have signed your soul away, BUT THAT’S OKAY! This is your time to experiment, find where you belong, and have fun. You’ll get to experience your first regionals, and no matter how much the other team members say they’ve prepared you for what you’re going to experience–they have not. It’s nothing like you’ve ever seen before and it’s absolutely beautiful. Enjoy it, make mistakes, and most importantly learn from them. You’ve chosen a great organization to be a part of. Now embrace every aspect of it and seize the moment!

People with good parents get so offended when abused children speak negatively of their parents. Like…REALLY offended lol.

They say things like “Your mom would do anything for you” and “Your parents sacrificed a lot for you!” and “I don’t respect anyone who talks down on their parents.”

But just because YOUR parents would do anything for you and sacrificed a lot for you doesn’t mean it applies to all parents. We don’t have the same experience boo. You can’t tell me shit about what my mama would do for me. All moms and dads are not created equal.

So torn

That moment when you get super excited because one of your favorite TV shows decides to include robotics as an activity to help get viewers into STEM, but then heartbroken because they didn’t do their full research on the names of parts and because they’re mixing vex, FTC, and FRC all together at once 😅

Sidenote: still SUPER pumped robotics is being promoted on a show like that though, even if those of us over involved with it beforehand know there are a few technical errors
