So, apparently, SJWs and “feminists” have chased Joss Whedon off of Twitter.
Why? For having a female character express how it made her feel to have the ability to raise a family taken from her against her will. This news is also coming fresh off the heels of the Batgirl variant cover controversy. Apparently, female superheroes (or female anythings) aren’t allowed to have any humanity to them. They’re not allowed to show weakness or flaws. They’re not allowed to be victims of anything, even if that gives them a reason to fight, and even if they overcome what happened to them, and become stronger because of it. What, then, are we saying about victims? With the Batgirl cover, they’re treating being a victim of sexual abuse as though it were leprosy, and even trying to erase that aspect of the character. What are you telling the victims of the world when you refuse to allow them anything they can connect with? What are you telling them when you want to erase them from existence?
Sadly, a lot of the people commenting on comic books and comic book characters nowadays–calling them “sexist” and “misogynistic”–don’t even read comic books. Many people just see a bandwagon to jump on so they can tear someone else down, and boost their own sense of self-importance. One person says it’s “bad” or “trash”, and they rally a group behind them that just blindly eat whatever bullshit they’re being fed. It doesn’t matter what the franchise is, so long as there’s a reason to pull out the stakes and torches, and scream “MISOGYNY!” to the heavens while applying menstrual waste to their faces as war paint.
This witch hunt bullshit has got to STOP. This is not “empowering” women. It’s treating us like hyper-sensitive little glass dolls that can’t be moved a single inch without shattering. I’m not a little glass doll, and neither are you. If you can’t sit and watch a non-fictional story without trying to find something to be “offended” by, you need to take a step back, and seriously reevaluate your life. You claim to want equality, and you claim to want women to be seen as strong, yet you do the equivalent of sitting in a corner crying and demanding a hug just because little Timmy didn’t pick you first to play dodge ball. To represent us this way is ass-backwards, and embarrassing. It’s also incredibly insensitive to people that have overcome trauma, because we’re telling them that they can’t be anything more than a victim. We’re telling women that they can’t have flaws. We’re telling women that they’re wrong for having emotions. How do you possibly think that’s going to improve how women feel about themselves? You’re not only perpetuating, but CREATING, impossible standards for women.
This behavior is disgusting, and incredibly disrespectful. You don’t fucking send death threats to a director just because a character that IS NOT YOURS, AND THAT YOU HAVE NO SAY SO AS TO WHO THEY ARE turned out to be different than what you wanted them to be. This is not how anyone should conduct themselves, and it sure as fuck is NOT how I want to be represented as a woman.
