Update on one of my OCs: Jocelyn isn’t going to end up with Jon. I didn’t have a good way to end their story and have them together so it’s not happening now.

spill on the conquest era bolton bc im currently developing a bolton wife of the king who knelt and i fear i might be becoming extremely boltonpilled

So there isn’t that much on the Boltons in this era… there’s plenty for Age of Heroes and around the Rebellion but not much for this time…

And I lied there’s two.

All of the important Sara ancestors are women, ofc, I don’t have many male OCs

So during the conquest… the Boltons have bent the knee and all that, but I like the idea of whoever the Lady Bolton at the time is being very anti-targ (for a surprise reason I’ll share shortly) and like lowkey she wants to skin Aegon. She’s never seen a dragon, she doesn’t know that they’re Like That. Everyone is a pussy bitch in her opinion and they just need to stand up. Okay so Lady Bolton (none of them have names yet sorry!) joins her Lord husband and travels to Winterfell to raise banners, but then Torrhen kneels. Now picture this. She laughs at Aegon and Torrhen and her husband quite openly, claims none of them have a stomach for war, all that good stuff. Not a lot happens really it just sets up the next part.

I cannot remember who it was or where I saw it but there was a bunch of ‘what if Aegon III had married Barba and how freaky and uncanny would their babies be’ content a while back.

And you know what…

Why the fuck doesn’t Maegor take a Northern wife? (I know, I know, logistics, but I don’t care)

So that Lady Bolton I already mentioned? Lowkey evil. Lowkey becomes penpals with Visenya bc they lowkey have a lot in common.

So when Maegor can’t get an heir out of his brides? A frigid Northern bombshell has entered the villa.

She’s manipulative as fuuuck. Like Sara but without the daddy issues, she has mommy issues instead!

She’s also gay with it. Tyanna at the very least. Probably dabbles a little in blood magic for fun.

The freaky stillborns Jeyne and Alys have… give Lady Bolton one. She has the last one and very shortly before he kills himself (I stand by this) and she’s convinced either him or Visenya will murder her, so flees back to the North… with the fuckass baby, dead or alive. I think also the baby definitely lives but she doesn’t tell anyone. Like scary vampire features Bolton genes with the silver hair and all that… and then the draconic features too? Oh, the character design is peak.

Very minimal thoughts on these two I’m afraid but I’ll think more on it eventually. I just think Boltons should have more female members and be more prominent.

Sara has an elite taste in books, especially with Dracula and Metamorphosis (Franz Kafka's, right?). Girl, Interrupted is also so good, even the film.

Yeah I like those books for her because the main theme of her story is change and transformation and the books I picked cover that as either literal or emotional and I think she’d find a lot of peace in reading that

I don't know what it is about them but they feel similar? Like Alicent is Cersei a bit to the left (I say this as someone who's never read the books or actually watched the GoT show)

They do have some similarities fr but I think if they were in the same time it would be as foils for each other

That being said, that is a dynamic I would like to find myself in the middle of or just sitting in the corner minding my own business

I love them both they should argue and kiss each other

I relate to that prev anon bc Roose was one of those characters i lowk didn't gaf much about when I read the asoiaf books but your fic really managed to give me Roose brainrot... making him have a freudian relationship with a fucked up faildaughter is such a big brain idea, i'm obsessed 🚬🚬

I think the biggest issue with the Boltons in the books (and I am NOT trying to say I could do a better job, I am not even a fraction of the writer that grrm is) is that they don’t have a POV character. Only seeing Roose through Cat, Bran, Arya and Jaime’s POVs does him a disservice. It was not until half way through adwd I started to want him carnally bc of his interactions with Reek. But like… Stannis does not have POVs but bc of the Davos chapters you as the reader are endeared to him, you have a view of who he is personally beyond just what he outwardly presents. The same is true of Robb obviously, he would be nothing burger without Cat’s chapters.

Having the Boltons (both Roose and Ramsay) be visible only through people who fear them is effective in making them villains, but not so much for characterisation. Yes, I know it’s intentional, but the line between mysterious and uninteresting is very blurry until adwd. Even a paragraph from Barbrey could help with this bc it would give the reader a more personal connection to Domeric and Bethany and that might humanise Roose more.

Originally, I thought about making Mouthfeel from Theon and Robb’s POV. I think that could have been interesting but I decided in the end Sara has too much going on only in her head. I’ll be honest, the more I decided to write from Sara’s perspective, the more mental disorders she gained. Even when she’s seducing Robb and falling in love with Theon she does it in such a calculated way that I think it might have been boring without her constant ‘dang I miss my dad who definitely isn’t grooming me’ internal monologue. Like Arya’s POV in Harrenhal is so important to sow the seeds in the reader’s mind about the Boltons being off, Roose being untrustworthy. Sara complicates Robb’s story because he has to implicitly believe her about Roose rather than keeping his doubts, so his POV is basically just ‘this girl is strange but I’m sure she means well’ and that’s just not as interesting at all.

The other big problem I have narratively with the Boltons in the books is the lack of women. Bethany is dead, Jeyne and Lady Hornwood and Walda and Barbrey are not raised in a Bolton environment, they are subjected to it later on. This is why Myranda in the show is one of the rare changes I actually like, while she’s not a Bolton, it’s implied that she grew up in the Dreadfort with Ramsay, so she’s been subjected to the Dreadfort’s expectations of women her whole life and has come out of it with some loose screws. Now, I know that the only intention the writers had was ‘give Ramsay an evil gf so we can put Iwan in more sex scenes’, but she’s still a great addition to me. She’ll feature in Mouthfeel. Bolton OCs and ESPECIALLY Roosedaughters are a really popular trope bc every single slightly perverted girl who read the books went ‘huh this house has crazy potential’ and wrote one in. Sara (and every OC like her) slots in perfectly because i think there is genuinely a gap in the Bolton plot line for a perverted faildaughter. And you can do so much with that, I’m doing SO much with her.

I love RooseSara so much and if I wasn’t so worried about giving Mouthfeel a coherent through line and narrative purpose, they’d get married and she’d live in a constant personal hell where she’s the perfect daughterwife for her evil dad.

I also technically have a few more Bolton OCs but they’re rly underdeveloped. Just like Sara’s ancestors in different points of Westeros history and if anyone wants to hear about them let me know.

I’ve said it before I’ll say it again, I’m writing Mouthfeel as genuine House Bolton propaganda. I lowkey think they’d be the most popular house if grrm had made one of them an evil rapey femcel, the house Bolton sausage fest was the only thing turning me off for the longest time until I got the cheat codes (add an oc)

And yeah that’s 10000000% intentional like sometimes I even imagine Roose with that fuck ass moustache. I really love Bolton vampire theories they’re so fun. It would be canon in mouthfeel but there’s so much going on already and I’m giving Sara and Domeric a kinda mystic supernatural plot already

Okay so the thing almost constantly on my mind is Robb x Sara…

It’s so doomed, it’ll never work.

I’ve said before I like the AU of my fic where they do end up getting married, but I have more thoughts abt her being his lover

Roose initially being furious at her, but then realising she’s actually lowkey cooked with that

Ramsay knowing but being unable to do anything about it… bc like disposing of Theon was easy as soon as he betrayed his allies, but what can he do when Robb takes her instead?

As soon as Robb gets her pregnant and STILL marries Jeyne Westerling, Roose changes his mind massively. The Red Wedding still happens, but it’s extremely personally motivated now bc Sara looses her place in court and any marriage prospects she previously had, he is GELDING that boy

Bro manages to legitimise the baby (he does it for Ramsay and I can see the Lannisters agreeing given that this baby is Bolton born and raised so unlikely to stand against them)

Does All That still happen to Jeyne Poole? Well, yes. Back up plans, babe, Roose Bolton is getting a legit claim to Winterfell out of one of his slut children if it kills him

Sara is fundamentally a worse person through all of this, though. Over the course of Mouthfeel I plan for her to develop a little bit of empathy. Being jilted in this way by Robb halts and undoes all of that. She is actively torturing Reek and Jeyne without remorse.

Feel free to respond to this with more thoughts on how it would go down, like I just love thinking of ways to make Sara even more miserable
